IEC 62149-12:2023 This part of IEC 62149 defines performance specifications for distributed feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) devices used in analogue radio over fibre (RoF) systems. It defines product performance requirements together with a series of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities, and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run on a “once-off” basis to prove a product’s ability to satisfy the performance requirements.

1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising

all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international

co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and

106 Distributed feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) devices for analogue radio over fibre (A-RoF)

107 systems are used to convert electrical radio signals into optical signals. This part of IEC

108 62149 covers the performance specification for DFB-LD devices in A-RoF systems. The

109 optical and electrical performance criteria are generally well specified for a number of

110 internationally agreed upon application areas, such as ITU-T Recommendation G.9803 and

111 IEC 62149-10. This standard provides optical and electrical performance specifications for

112 RoF transceivers. These transceivers are necessary for operation of A-RoF systems, because

113 the RoF transmitter requires a light source such as a DFB-LD device. DFB-LD devices for RoF

114 transceivers are supplied by different manufacturers. However, they do not guarantee the

115 operation of DFB-LD devices in A-RoF systems. Manufacturers using the standards are

116 responsible for meeting the required performance and/or reliability and quality assurance

117 under a recognized scheme.

125 1 Scope

126 This part of IEC 62149 defines performance specifications for distributed feedback laser diode

127 (DFB-LD) devices used in analogue radio over fibre (RoF) systems. It defines product

128 performance requirements together with a series of tests and measurements with clearly

129 defined conditions, severities, and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run on a

130 “once-off” basis to prove a product’s ability to satisfy the performance requirements.
