IEC 62056-7-3:2017(E) specifies DLMS/COSEM wired and wireless M-Bus communication profiles for local and neighbourhood networks. It is restricted to aspects concerning the use of communication protocols in conjunction with the COSEM data model and the DLMS/COSEM application layer.

Ta mednarodni standard določa DLMS/COSEM profile ožičene in brezžične M-Bus izmenjave podatkov za lokalna in sosednja omrežja.
Vzpostavitev in upravljanje komunikacijskih kanalov M-Bus naprav M-Bus, omrežja M-Bus, registriranje podrejenih naprav in – če je potrebno – ponavljalniki ne spadajo na področje uporabe tega mednarodnega standarda.
Področje uporabe tega standarda za komunikacijske profile je omejeno na uporabo komunikacijskih protokolov v povezavi s podatkovnim modelom COSEM in aplikacijsko ravnjo DLMS/COSEM. Podatkovne strukture, značilne za določen komunikacijski protokol, ne spadajo na področje uporabe tega standarda. Morebitne definicije podatkovnih struktur in vsebine podatkov za posamezen projekt so lahko vključene v spremljevalnih specifikacijah za posamezen projekt.
Dodatek A (informativni) podaja informacije o strukturnih okvirih M-Bus, shemah naslavljanja in primerih kodiranja.
Dodatek B (normativni) opredeljuje vmesniške razrede COSEM za vzpostavitev in upravljanje komunikacijskih kanalov M-Bus.
Dodatek C (informativni) ponuja MSC-je za reprezentativne primere komunikacije.
