What are the key requirements of prEN IEC 60335-2-79:2026/prAA:2026?

Scope and hazard coverage
Clause 1 adds European text saying the document covers hazards encountered by people and domestic animals during intended use. It also links leakage current assessment to touch current as defined in IEC 60990, so electrical safety is judged with a human-contact perspective.
Clause 1 also states that the term “appliance” includes “machine” where relevant, and that the document covers appliances with radio function, remote communication and remote operation. In practice, that means these functions are treated as part of the safety case, not as optional extras.
Marking and access to instructions
Clause 7 requires the appliance to carry a manufacturer contact route such as a website, email address or other digital contact. If the product is too small or unsuitable for this marking, the information goes on the packaging or in an accompanying document.
A new subclause requires the appliance, or its packaging/documentation, to show how digital instructions are accessed. This matters because users need a reliable way to reach the instructions after purchase and during use.
User instructions
Clause 7.12 adds safety text saying machines shall not be used by children, and that children and domestic animals should be supervised so they do not play with the machine. It also requires instructions to cover reasonably foreseeable misuse and its safety impact.
The amendment allows electronic instructions if they can be viewed on a suitable display and printed, downloaded and saved for later access. For machines not intended for commercial use, the manufacturer still has to supply paper safety information needed to put the machine into service and use it safely.
Noise and vibration information
Clause 7.12.102 and 7.12.103 replace notes with requirements to provide airborne noise emission information and vibration emission information. Annex CC and Annex DD are changed from informative to normative, so their content becomes binding for the standard.
Annex DD also adds a requirement for repeated shock vibration emission values, identified as pF and determined in accordance with EN ISO 5349-3. In practice, this means repeated shock vibration is no longer treated only as background information.
National condition
Annex ZC adds a Swiss special national condition for machines classified IPX5 or IPX7 with rated current not exceeding 16 A. For those products, the plug has to meet the stated Swiss or CEE industrial plug requirement.
