Optics and optical instruments — Spectacle frames — Vocabulary and lists of equivalent terms
Spectrales frames and parts thereof are procedured in large numbers worldwide. In order to facilitate mutual understanding and avoid the use of inappropriate or incorrect terms, the standard defines terms relating to frames for spectacles and eyeglasses in English and French, and lists equivalent terms in (British and American) English, French, Russian, German, Italian and spanish. It does not include terms for measuring systems, formers and edging machines, and it does not apply to goggles.

Elle ne s'applique pas aux lunettes-loup. NOTE -- En supplément aux termes donnés dans les trois langues officielles de l'ISO (anglais, français et russe), la présente Norme internationale donne les termes équivalents en allemand, italien, espagnol et américain; ces termes ont été inclus à la demande de l'ISO/TC 172 et sont publiés sous la responsabilité des comités membres de l'Allemagne, R.F. (DIN), de l'Italie (UNI), de l'Espagne (IRANOR) et des USA (ANSI). Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work of preparing International
Standards is normally carried out through IS0 technical committees. Every member
body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, govern-
mental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to
the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by
the IS0 Council. They are approved in accordance with IS0 procedures requiring at
least 75 % approval by the member bodies voting.
International Standard IS0 7998 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 172,
