BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1575, Tea - Defemination of total ash, was drawn up by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 34, Agricultural food pruducrs, the Secretariat of which is held by the Magyar Szabvinyügyi Hivatal (MSZH).
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1575, which was circulated to all
the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in July 1968. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial
nature, by the following Member Bodies :

DETERMINATION OF TOTAL ASH

1. SCOPI
This IS0 Recommendation describes a method for the determination of the total ash of tea.
2. DEFlNlTiON
By foraladi is meant the residue obtained after incineration at 525 I 25 "C under the conditions specified.
3. PRINCIPLE
Destruction of organic matter by heating at 525 I 25 "C to constant mass.
4. REAGENT
Vegetable oil (for example, olive oil) leaving no residue on incineration.
5. APPARATUS
Usual laboratory apparatus not otherwise specified, and the following items :
5.1 Dish, capacity 50 to 100 ml, of platinum, porcelain or other material unaffected by the conditions of
the test.
5.2 Furnace, regulated at 525 I 25 OC.
5.3 Steam bath.
5.4 Hotplate.
5.5
Desiccator, containing an effective desiccant.
5.6 Anaiytical balance.
6. SAMPLE
Use a ground sample of known dry matter content, prepared as described in IS0 Recommendation R 1572,
