BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1574, Tea - Determination of water extract, was drawn up by Technical
Committee ISO/TC 34, Agricultural food products, the Secretariat of which is held by the Magyar Szabvanyügyi
Hivatal (MSZH).
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1574,which was circulated
to all the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in July 1968. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an
editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

DETERMINATION OF WATER EXTRACT
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation describes a method for the determination of the water extract of tea.
2. DEFlNlTlON
t
By waicr extract is meant the soluble matter extracted from the sample by boiling water under the conditions
specified.
3. PRINCIPLE
Extraction of soluble matter from a test portion of the product by means of water boiling under reflux, filtration,
evaporation of the filtrate to dryness and weighing of the residue.
4. APPARATUS
Usual laboratory apparatus not otherwise specified, and the following items :
4.1 Constant-temperature oven, regulated at 103 i 2 OC.
4.2 Steam bath.
4.3 Desiccator, containing an effective desiccant.
4.4 Analytical balance.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 1574, Thé - Détermination de l’extrait a l’eau, a été élaborée par le Comité
Technique ISO/TC 34, Produits agricoles alimentaires, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Magyar Szabvanyügyi
Hivatal (MSZH).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption du Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 1574
qui fut soumis,en juillet 1968,à l’enquête de tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de
quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

Brésil Inde Royaume-Uni
Ceylan Iran Tchécoslovaquie

DÉTERMINATION DE L‘EXTRAIT À L‘EAU
1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 décrit une méthode de détermination, dans le thé, de l’extrait à l’eau.
2. DÉFINITION
On entend par extrait ù l’eau les substances solubles extraites de l’échantillon par l’eau bouillante dans les
conditions décrites.
3. PRINCIPE
Extraction, à l’eau bouillante sous reflux, des substances solubles d’une prise d’essai du produit, fdtration,
évaporation du filtrat jusqu’à siccité et pesée du résidu.
4. APPAREILLAGE
Matériel courant de laboratoire, et notamment
Etuve a température constante, réglée à 103 tr 2 OC.

4.2 Bain de vapeur.
4.3 Dessiccateur,gami d‘un déshydratant efficace.
4.4 Balance analytique.
