This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 1459:1998; it was approved by CEN on 27 July 2006.

amendment into the relevant national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such
national standards may be obtained on application to the Central Secretariat or to any CEN member.
This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the
responsibility of a CEN member into its own language and notified to the Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

Foreword
This document (EN 1459:1998/A1:2006) has been prepared by Technical CEN /TC 150 "Industrial trucks -
Safety", the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This Amendment to the European Standard EN 1459:1998 shall be given the status of a national standard,
either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2007, and conflicting
national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by March 2007.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the
European Free Trade Association, and supports the essential requirements of the New Approach Directive
98/37/EC (Machinery Directive) amended by 98/79/EC.
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this document.
This amendment includes the requirement for ROPS on small industrial variable reach trucks. It arose to fulfil
the requirements of CEN/TC150 resolution 109 and resolve the CEN Safeguard Action on operator restraints.
This amendment A1 covers the necessary additional precautions by replacing or deleting the relevant existing
text of EN 1459: 1998 or adding new clauses, as indicated.
