- Abstract
This European Standard deals with the safety of electrically operated commercial boiling pans not intended for household use. The rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances. Appliances which are within the scope of this standard are typically used in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc.

oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026 is the Slovenian adoption published by SIST of Amendment 1 to IEC 60335-2-47. It updates the safety requirements for commercial electric boiling pans in the IEC 60335 family, for appliances used in professional food-service and similar commercial settings. The amendment also extends the scope to DC supplied appliances.
What does oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026 specify?
oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026 specifies an amendment to the safety requirements for electrically operated commercial boiling pans not intended for household use. It focuses on targeted changes to the scope, battery-related treatment, endurance, stability, lid movement and construction requirements.
The scope covers equipment used in places such as restaurants, canteens, hospitals and commercial enterprises like bakeries and butcheries. The amendment is organized as clause-by-clause updates to Clauses 1, 3, 11, 12, 18, 20 and 22, plus Annex B.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex B | Battery-operated appliances, separable batteries and detachable batteries for battery-operated appliances - deleted in this amendment, so the Part 1 treatment applies without modification |
What are the key requirements of oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026?
This amendment mainly changes how designers and test labs treat power source, moving parts and lid safety. It also clarifies which general requirements from Part 1 apply unchanged.
Scope and heating requirements
- Clause 1 adds DC supplied appliances to the scope and removes the last battery-operated appliance item from the scope wording. In practice, DC-powered models are treated as in-scope commercial boiling pans.
- Clause 11 and Clause 11.7 are modified. For manufacturers, that means the heating-related wording in the base part must be read through the amended text, not only the earlier edition.
Battery-related treatment
- Clause 12 says that the Part 1 clause on charging of metal-ion batteries is applicable. This means battery-charging matters are handled through the general Part 1 requirement.
- Clause 18 says the Part 1 endurance clause is not applicable. In practice, the endurance testing route in this part is not used.
- Annex B is deleted. That removes the separate battery-operated appliance treatment and leaves Part 1 to apply without modification for that topic.
Stability, moving parts and lid safety
- Clause 20.2 tightens the wording for protective enclosures, guards and similar parts. They must be non-detachable or interlocked, and they need adequate mechanical strength.
- The same clause keeps a limited exemption for parts needed to perform the tilting movement, such as handles or handwheels. That matters when checking whether a moving part is acceptable because of its function.
- New Clause 20.102 requires automatic opening and closing of the lid to avoid hazards. The compliance check looks at the lid closing near the fixed edge and assesses surface pressure, force and kinetic energy. A hold-to-run device is not treated as automatic operation.
- Clause 22.119 replaces “grips” with “handles” and requires at least one handle on lids that are not motorized. This gives a clear construction rule for manual lids.
Who uses oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026?
Manufacturers of commercial electric boiling pans use this standard when designing products for the professional kitchen market. Test laboratories and certification bodies use it for safety assessment and conformity work.
Quality managers, compliance engineers and buyers use it to check whether a product fits the intended commercial use and the right supply arrangement. It is relevant in restaurants, canteens, hospitals, bakeries, butcheries and similar commercial enterprises.
What changed in oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026 from the previous edition?
This amendment to IEC 60335-2-47:2021 updates the scope and several safety clauses. The main changes are the inclusion of DC supplied appliances, revised wording in Clauses 3.1.9, 11 and 11.7, application of Part 1 for Clause 12, removal of the Part 1 endurance clause from this part, new lid-hazard checking in Clause 20, updated lid-handle wording in Clause 22, and deletion of Annex B.
What does the oSIST prEN IEC 60335-2-47:2026/oprA1:2026 document contain?
The document contains amendment text that is applied to the base Part 2-47. It gives replacement wording for selected clauses, adds a new subclause on automatic lid movement, and deletes Annex B.
It also contains a note that hold-to-run control is not considered automatic operation. For users, the key point is that this amendment must be read together with the base standard when checking design, testing and safety documentation.

AMENDMENT 1
FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
misinterpretation by any end user.
4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between
any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter.
5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
services carried out by independent certification bodies.
6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents
