Abstract

ISO 14114:2017 applies to acetylene cylinder manifold systems extending from the cylinder valve or the bundle outlet connections to the outlet connection of the main shut-off valve. It specifies requirements for design, materials and testing of cylinder manifold systems for the supply of acetylene for use in welding, cutting and allied processes.
ISO 14114:2017 applies to acetylene cylinder manifold systems in which acetylene single cylinders or acetylene bundles are coupled for collective gas withdrawal.
NOTE National regulations exist regarding limitation of the amount of single cylinders/bundles of acetylene on a single location (e.g. in warehouse or connected to a manifold system).
ISO 14114:2017 also covers a test procedure for decomposition blockers.

oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 is the SIST publication of the draft ISO 14114 standard for gas welding equipment, focused on acetylene manifold systems for welding, cutting and allied processes. It specifies general requirements for design, materials, testing, marking and instructions for use so manufacturers, installers and users can handle acetylene supplied from single cylinders, multiple cylinders, single bundles or multiple bundles under collective gas withdrawal.

What does oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 specify?

oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 applies to acetylene manifold systems from the cylinder valve or bundle outlet connections up to the outlet connection of the main shut-off valve. It covers systems used for collective withdrawal from one or more acetylene cylinders or bundles, and it excludes a single individual cylinder directly connected with a cylinder regulator according to ISO 2503.

The document is organized into Scope, Normative references, Terms and definitions, Design and materials, Tests, Marking, Instructions for use, and Annex A.

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex ANormative configurations of acetylene manifold systems, with figures and a component list

What are the key requirements of oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026?

oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 focuses on the system layout, the gas safety devices, the material suitability, and the tests needed before a manifold system is put into service. The practical aim is to make sure the system can supply acetylene safely, be checked on site, and be identified clearly.

System design and safety devices

Clause 4.1 requires a defined chain of components in the manifold system, including high pressure non-return protection, connection pipework or hoses, an automatic quick-acting shut-off device, pressure regulation, a main isolation function, low pressure pipework, low-pressure safety devices, gauges and the main shut-off valve. In practice, the system must prevent reverse flow, isolate the supply, control pressure and provide flame and decomposition protection where needed.

Clause 4.1 also allows alternative safety-device arrangements, including a decomposition blocker with associated non-return valve, flame arrestor and cut-off device. Annex A gives the allowed configurations, so installers can build one-sided, two-sided, cylinder or bundle systems in the approved pattern.

Materials

Clause 4.2 requires materials that are resistant to acetylene, acetone and dimethylformamide (DMF), and to the mechanical, chemical and thermal loads expected in service. For a buyer or designer, this means material choice is part of compliance, not only a manufacturing preference.

Tests

Clause 5.1 requires strength testing of both high-pressure and low-pressure components, with hydraulic testing for the high-pressure part and pneumatic testing for the low-pressure part. The practical point is that components must survive the service pressures without visible permanent deformation.

Clause 5.2 requires external gas-tightness testing at commissioning on site. The high-pressure part is checked at low and high pressure, and the low-pressure part is checked at the maximum outlet pressure of the regulator, so the installer has to prove the assembled system is leak-tight before use.

Marking and instructions for use

Clause 6 requires the installer to mark the system with the document reference, supplier identity, gas type, maximum regulated pressure, maximum flow, operating temperature range, and year and month of manufacture or installation. Clause 7 requires instructions for use covering the application, description and marking, installation, commissioning tests, operation, maintenance, disassembly, disposal, troubleshooting, hazards and safety precautions.

What terms does oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 define?

  • Acetylene manifold systems - an assembly that connects one or more gas sources to a user pipeline system and delivers regulated pressure under safe conditions.
  • Acetylene cylinder bundle - a group of cylinders fastened and interconnected for collective filling and gas withdrawal, intended to be transported as one unit.
  • Change-over unit - a device in a two-sided system that switches supply from one bank of cylinders or bundles to the other without interrupting gas flow.
  • Decomposition blocker - a safety device that stops acetylene decomposition by using a temperature-sensitive or pressure-sensitive cut-off device.
  • Pressure regulator for manifold systems - a device that reduces a variable inlet pressure to as constant an outlet pressure as possible.
  • Flame arrestor - a device that extinguishes a flame front.

Who uses oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026?

This standard is used by manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and installers of acetylene manifold systems. It is also relevant to engineers, maintenance staff, testers and inspectors who design, assemble, commission and verify systems for welding, cutting and allied processes.

Buyers and quality managers use it when specifying manifold components, safety devices, marking and user instructions for acetylene installations. The document is particularly relevant where cylinders, bundles and change-over systems are used in industrial gas supply.

What changed in oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 from the previous edition?

The foreword says that this third edition cancels and replaces ISO 14114:2014. It reports revisions to Clause 3, 4.1, 5.3, Clauses 6 and 7, Table A.1, Figures A.2 and A.4, deletion of Figure A.5, and a modified title for Annex B.

Which standards are used with oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026?

The document relies on ISO 5175 (all parts) for safety devices, including flame arrestors, non-return valves and cut-off devices. It uses ISO 7291 for pressure regulators and change-over units, ISO 9090 for gas-tightness, ISO 9539 for materials, ISO 10961 for cylinder bundles, ISO 14113 for hoses and hose assemblies, ISO 15296 for vocabulary, and ISO 15615 for high-pressure device requirements and the valve and gauge components named in Clause 4.

What does the oSIST prEN ISO 14114:2026 document contain?

The document contains the full requirement set for acetylene manifold systems, from scope and definitions through design, testing, marking and user information. Annex A adds the normative system configurations, with Figures A.1 to A.4 and Table A.1 listing the numbered components used in those drawings. That annex is the practical guide for arranging one-sided and two-sided systems, bundles, cylinders, change-over units and decomposition blockers.
