Thermal insulating products for building equipment and industrial installations - Determination of the coefficient of thermal expansion

This European Standard specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the coefficient of linear thermal expansion. The standard is applicable to thermal insulating products within the tem-perature range - 196 °C to 850 °C, subject to the possible tempera-ture limita-tion of the test speci-mens. It shall not be used for products which during the test experien-ce dimensional changes due to the loss of hydration water or which undergo other phase changes.
NOTE   Because of its small dimensions the test specimen should be care-fully selected to be representative of the product being tested.

Anwendungsbereich
Diese Europäische Norm legt Prüfeinrichtungen und Verfahren zur Bestimmung des linearen Wärmeausdeh-nungs-koeffizienten fest. Sie ist für Wärmedämmstoffe inner-halb eines Temperaturbereiches von - 196 °C bis 850 °C anwendbar, was aber von der möglichen Temperaturbegrenzung für die Probekörper abhängt. Die Norm darf nicht für Produkte angewendet werden, die während der Prüfung aufgrund des Verlustes von Hydratwasser Maßände-rungen erfahren oder die anderen Gefügever-änderungen unterliegen.
ANMERKUNG  Wegen ihrer kleinen Maße sollten die Probekörper sorgfältig ausge-wählt werden, damit sie re-präsentativ für das zu prüfende Produkt sind.

Produits isolants thermiques pour l'équipement du bâtiment et les installations industrielles - Détermination du coefficient de dilatation thermique

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les équipements nécessaires et les procédures a suivre pour déterminer le coefficient de dilatation thermique linéaire. Elle s'applique aux produits isolants thermiques utilisés dans une gamme de températures allant de -196° a 850° mais elle est sujette a une éventuelle limitation de température imposée par les éprouvettes d'essai. Elle ne peut pas etre utilisée dans le cas de produits subissant au cours de l'essai des variations dimensionnelles dues a une perte en eau ou subissant d'autres changements de phase.
NOTE   Vu les faibles dimensions de l'éprouvette d'essai, il convient que celle-ci soit choisie soigneusement pour etre représentative du produit testé.

Terms and definitionsFor the purpose of this European Standard, the following terms and definitions apply:3.1linear thermal expansionreversible changes in the length of a product resulting from a change in temperature3.2mean coefficient of linear thermal expansion m between different temperaturesreversible change in length divided by the length at the reference temperature and the temperaturedifference between the test temperatures3.3coefficient of thermal expansion t at the temperature Tlimit value of m as the higher temperature approaches the lower temperature (see Figure 1)NOTE
The definition of m and t assumes that the function giving the length variation in relation to the temperaturevariation is continuous. This excludes the use of the mean coefficient of linear thermal expansion m when the testspecimen experiences physical change due to change of phase, eg. recrystallisation or loss of water of hydration.The curve giving the length variation as a function of the temperature variation can be reported but the meancoefficient of thermal expansion should not be calculated for parts of the curve which are not continuous.SIST EN 13471:2002
