This European Standard specifies current requirements for human body measurements (anthropometric data) that are required by EN 547-1 and EN 547-2 for the calculation of access opening dimensions as applied to machinery.
The anthropometric data originate from static measurements of nude persons and do not take into account body movements, clothing, equipment, machinery operating conditions or environmental conditions.
The data are based on information from anthropometric surveys representative of population groups within Europe comprising at least three million people. Both men and women are taken into account.
Measurements are given, as required by EN 547-1 and EN 547-2, for the 5th, 95th and 99th percentiles of the relevant population group within Europe.

Diese Europäische Norm legt aktuelle Anforderungen an menschliche Körpermaßdaten (anthropometrische Daten) fest, die in EN 547-1 und EN 547-2 zur Berechnung der Zugangs- und Durchgangsmaße, wie sie an Maschinen Verwendung finden, benötigt werden.

This document applies to safeguards used on machinery for the protection of persons 14 years and older.
Safeguards considered in this document include:
a)       electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) such as:
—    active opto-electronic protective devices (AOPDs) (see IEC 61496-2);
—    AOPDs responsive to diffuse reflection that have one or more detection zone(s) specified in two dimensions (AOPDDRs-2D) (see IEC 61496-3);
—    AOPDs responsive to diffuse reflection that have one or more detection zone(s) specified in three dimensions (AOPDDRs-3D) (see IEC 61496-3);
—    vision based protective devices using reference pattern techniques (VBPDPP) (see IEC/TS 61496-4-2);
—    vision based protective devices using stereo vision techniques (VBPDST) (see IEC/TS 61496-4-3);
b)       pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors (see ISO 13856-1);
c)        two-hand control devices (see ISO 13851);
d)       single control devices;
e)       interlocking guards (see ISO 14120).
This document is not applicable to:

The method combines a high level of reproducibility, sensitivity, and user-friendliness with low demands in term of resources, which makes it attractive to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

The ergonomic design principles given in this Technical Report apply to either or both seated and standing positions.
This Technical Report is applicable for the design of mobile (self-propelled and towable) machines in order to ensure ergonomic working conditions for the operator.
This Technical Report applies only to driving and operating mobile machinery and not to performing other tasks (e.g. sorters on a potato harvesting machine). Basic concepts and general ergonomic principles for the design of machinery are dealt with in prEN ISO 12100 and EN 614-1 and EN 614-2.
NOTE 1   EN 614-1 provides a framework for incorporating ergonomics principles in the design process. This framework helps designers to perform ergonomics analyses and design actions at the appropriate stages of the design process.
NOTE 2   EN 614-2 provides principles of the design of the work tasks in interaction with machinery design. This framework helps designers to focus on the work task design and on the optimal allocation of work tasks between the operator and the machine.
