Precast concrete products - Concrete with wood-chips as aggregate - Requirements and test methods

This document specifies common requirements for wood-chip concrete, used in precast wood-chip concrete products. It is intended to be used when preparing documents for wood-chip concrete products. Wood-chip concrete product standards will define specific requirements, which may be additional to those given in this document. Product standards will give any limiting values.
Examples for the use of wood-chip concrete are: hollow blocks for flooring systems, shuttering blocks, slabs, facing elements, acoustic and/or thermal facing elements, partitioning elements, wine racks, etc.
It is not applicable to concrete for structural masonry units covered by EN 771-3 and their ancillary components.

Betonfertigteile - Holzspanbeton - Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren

Dieses Dokument legt allgemeine Anforderungen an Holzspanbeton für Fertigteile aus Holzspanbeton fest. Es gilt für die Erstellung von Dokumenten für Produkte aus Holzspanbeton, in denen spezielle Anforderungen, die die in diesem Dokument angegebenen Anforderungen ergänzen, festgelegt sind. Die Produktnormen werden die erforderlichen Grenzwerte enthalten.
Beispiele für die Anwendung von Holzspanbeton sind: Hohlblöcke für Decken, Schalungen, Platten, Verblendelemente, Verblendelemente mit schall- und/oder wärmeschutztechnischen Eigenschaften, Trennelemente, Gestelle für Wein, usw.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für Beton für Mauersteine nach EN 771-3 und die zugehörigen Formsteine.

Le présent document spécifie les prescriptions communes relatives au béton de bois utilisé dans les produits
préfabriqués en béton de bois. Il est destiné à être utilisé lors de la préparation des normes relatives aux produits
préfabriqués en béton de bois. Ces normes définiront des prescriptions spécifiques qui pourront s'ajouter à celles
énoncées dans le présent document. Les normes de produits énonceront les valeurs limites le cas échéant.
Exemples d'utilisation du béton de bois : Entrevous, blocs à bancher, dalles, éléments de parement, éléments de
parement acoustiques et/ou thermiques, éléments de cloisonnement, casiers à bouteilles etc.
Le présent document n'est pas applicable aux bétons pour éléments de maçonnerie structuraux couverts par
l'EN 771-3 et leurs accessoires.

EN 14474:2004 - "Precast concrete products - Concrete with wood‑chips as aggregate - Requirements and test methods" (CEN) defines common requirements and test methods for wood‑chip concrete used in precast products. It covers material and product‑level properties, specimen preparation, testing procedures and conformity assessment. The standard applies to open‑structure concrete containing 50% to 90% by volume wood‑chips and is not applicable to structural masonry units covered by EN 771‑3.

  • Thermal conductivity (λ): measured per EN 12664 and converted per EN ISO 10456.
  • Sound absorption: measured per EN ISO 354.
  • Frost resistance: when required, declared on long‑term experience or tested (Annex A). Loss of mass ≤10% and damage ≤5 mm depth.
  • Reaction to fire: assessed per EN 13823 and classified per EN 13501‑1.
  • Shrinkage/expansion and capillary water absorption: tested per EN 772‑14 and EN 772‑11 respectively.
• Specimen preparation and testing
  • Cast specimen dimensions: 800 × 150 × 150 mm (±5 mm); cubes 150 mm may be cut from these. Drying to constant mass at (105 ± 2) °C for density tests. Frost test procedure (Annex A) uses 24 freeze/thaw cycles and precise conditioning.
