Graphic technology - Safety requirements for graphic technology equipment and systems - Part 1: General requirements (ISO 12643-1:2023)
This document provides safety specifications for the design and construction of new equipment used
in prepress systems, printing press systems, binding and finishing systems, converting systems,
corrugated board manufacturing systems and stand‑alone platen presses. It is applicable to equipment
used in stand-alone mode, or in combination with other machines, including ancillary equipment,
in which all the machine actuators (e.g. drives) of the equipment are controlled by the same control
system.
The requirements given in this document are applicable to the equipment covered by ISO 12643 (all parts),
unless otherwise noted. This document is intended to be used in conjunction with the applicable part of
ISO 12643 that contains additional requirements specific to a particular type of equipment.
This document addresses recognized significant hazards specific to equipment and systems in the
following areas:
— mechanical;
— electrical;
— slipping, tripping, falling;
— ergonomics;
— noise;
— UV and laser radiation;
— fire and explosion;
— thermal;
— substances and material used for processing;
— failure, malfunction of control system;
— other types of emissions [e.g. ozone, ink mist, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), etc.].
This document is not applicable to:
— equipment manufactured before the date of its publication;
— ordinary office equipment for digital printing and paper processing, such as digital printers, copiers,
sorters, binders and staplers, which is intended for use outside the printing and paper industry;
— winder-slitters and sheeters in paper finishing (sheeters with unwinders);
— office-type collating machines equipped with friction feeders;
— mail processing machines;
— machines used for filling packages (such as machines for shaping, filling, and closing the package);
and
— textile printing presses.
The safety principles established in this document can also be applicable to the design of equipment
within areas of technology that are not specified in ISO 12643 (all parts).

Dieses Dokument enthält Sicherheitsanforderungen an die Konstruktion und den Bau von neuen Maschinen, die in Anlagen in der Druckvorstufe, in Druckmaschinensystemen, Buchbinderei- und Weiterverarbeitungssystemen, Papierverarbeitungssystemen, Wellpappenherstellungssystemen verwendet werden und von eigenständigen Stanztiegeln. Es gilt für eigenständige Maschinen und für mit anderen Maschinen kombinierte Ausrüstungen, einschließlich der Zusatzeinrichtungen, bei denen alle Maschinenaktoren (z. B. Antriebe) der Ausrüstung durch dieselbe Steuerung geregelt werden.
Die in diesem Dokument aufgeführten Anforderungen gelten für die von ISO 12643 (alle Teile) erfassten Ausrüstung, sofern nicht anders angegeben.. Es ist vorgesehen, dieses Dokument in Verbindung mit einem anderen einschlägigen Teil von ISO 12643 anzuwenden, der weitere Anforderungen enthält, die für eine bestimmte Ausrüstungsart spezifisch sind.
Dieses Dokument behandelt die als signifikant eingestuften Gefährdungen, die für die Ausrüstungen und Systeme folgender Bereiche spezifisch sind:
- mechanische Gefährdungen;
- elektrische Gefährdungen;
- Gefährdungen durch Ausrutschen, Stolpern und Stürzen;
- ergonomische Gefährdungen;
- Gefährdungen durch Lärm;
- Gefährdungen durch UV- und Laserstrahlen;
- Gefährdungen durch Feuer und Explosion;
- thermische Gefährdungen;
- Gefährdungen durch die zu verarbeitenden Substanzen und Materialien;
- Gefährdungen durch Ausfall und Fehlfunktion der Steuerung;
- Gefährdungen durch andere Arten von Emissionen (z. B. Ozon, Farbnebel, flüchtige organische Verbindungen (VOC) usw.)
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für:
- Ausrüstungen, die vor dem Veröffentlichungsdatum hergestellt wurden
- gewöhnliche Bürogeräte für den Digitaldruck und die Papierverarbeitung, wie Digitaldrucker, Kopierer, Sortierer, Binde- und Heftgeräte, die für den Einsatz außerhalb der Druck- und Papierindustrie bestimmt sind;
- Rollenschneidemaschinen und Querschneider in der Druckweiterverarbeitung (Querschneider mit Abrollung);
- Zusammentragmaschinen für den Bürobereich, die mit Reib-(Friktions-)Anlegern ausgerüstet sind;
- Postbearbeitungsmaschinen;
- Maschinen für das Füllen von Verpackungen (z. B. Maschinen zum Formen, Füllen und Verschließen der Verpackung);
- Textildruckmaschinen.
Die in diesem Dokument festgelegten Sicherheitsgrundsätze können auch für die Konstruktion von Ausrüstungen aus anderen Technikbereichen anwendbar sein, die nicht in ISO 12643 (alle Teile) festgelegt sind.

Le présent document établit les spécifications de sécurité applicables à la conception et à la construction de nouveaux équipements utilisés dans les systèmes de préimpression, les systèmes de presse d'impression, les systèmes de reliure et de finissage, les systèmes de façonnage, les systèmes de fabrication de carton ondulé et les presses à plateaux autonomes. Il s'applique aux équipements utilisés soit en mode autonome, soit conjointement à d'autres machines, notamment des équipements auxiliaires, dans lesquels l'ensemble des actionneurs de la machine (par exemple, entraînements) sont commandés par le même système.
Les exigences énoncées dans le présent document sont applicables aux équipements couverts par l'ISO 12643 (toutes les parties), sauf indication contraire. Le présent document est destiné à être utilisé conjointement à la partie applicable de l'ISO 12643 qui contient des exigences supplémentaires spécifiques à un type d'équipement donné.
Le présent document présente les phénomènes dangereux significatifs reconnus spécifiques aux équipements et systèmes dans les domaines suivants:
— phénomènes dangereux mécaniques;
— phénomènes dangereux électriques;
— glissade, trébuchement, chute;
— ergonomie;
— bruit;
— rayonnement UV et laser;
— incendie et explosion;
— phénomènes dangereux thermiques;
— substances et matières utilisées dans le traitement;
— défaillance et dysfonctionnement du système de commande;
— autres types d'émissions [par exemple, ozone, brouillard d'encre, composés organiques volatils (COV), etc.].
Le présent document ne s'applique pas:
— aux équipements fabriqués avant la date de sa publication;
— au matériel de bureau ordinaire utilisé pour l'impression numérique et le traitement papier, tel que les imprimantes numériques, photocopieuses, trieuses, relieuses et agrafeuses, destiné à être utilisé en dehors de l'industrie de l'impression et du papier;
— aux découpeuses-enrouleuses et coupeuses pour opérations de finissage (coupeuses avec dévidoirs);
— aux assembleuses de bureau équipées de margeurs à friction;
— aux machines de traitement du courrier;
— aux machines utilisées pour le conditionnement (mise en forme, remplissage et fermeture de paquets);
— aux presses pour impression de textile.
Les principes de sécurité établis dans le présent document peuvent également s'appliquer à la conception d'équipements relevant de domaines technologiques qui ne sont pas spécifiés dans l'ISO 12643 (toutes les parties).

Ta dokument zajema varnostne specifikacije za načrtovanje oziroma konstrukcijo nove opreme, ki se uporablja
v sistemih za grafično pripravo, sistemih tiskarskih strojev, knjigoveznici in grafični dodelavi, sistemih za pretvorbo, sistemih za izdelavo valovitega kartona in samostojne zaklopne tiskarske stroje. Uporablja se za opremo
v samostojni izvedbi ali v kombinaciji z drugimi stroji, vključno s pomožno opremo, kjer vse pogone (npr. motorje) opreme stroja krmili isti kontrolni sistem.
Zahteve, podane v tem dokumentu, se uporabljajo za opremo, ki je zajeta v standardu ISO 12643 (vsi deli), razen če ni drugače navedeno. Ta dokument je namenjen uporabi v povezavi z veljavnim delom standarda ISO 12643, ki vsebuje dodatne zahteve za določene vrste opreme.

– običajno pisarniško opremo za digitalno tiskanje in obdelavo papirja, npr. digitalni tiskalniki, kopirni stroji, naprave za razvrščanje, stroji za vezavo in spenjanje, ki so namenjeni uporabi zunaj področja papirne industrije in tiskarstva;
– stroje za navijanje in rezalne stroje za končno obdelavo (rezalni stroji z odvijalom);
– pisarniške stroje za zbiranje papirja, opremljene s tornimi podajalniki;
– stroje za obdelavo pošte;
– stroje za polnjenje paketov (npr. stroji za oblikovanje, polnjenje in zapiranje paketov);
in
– stroje za tiskanje na tekstil.
Varnostna načela, določena v tem dokumentu, se lahko uporabljajo tudi za načrtovanje opreme
na tehnoloških področjih, ki niso določena v standardu ISO 12643 (vsi deli).

This document (EN ISO 12643-1:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 130
"Graphic technology" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 198 “Printing and paper
machinery - Safety” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2024, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by June 2026.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 1010-1:2004+A1:2010.
