Machinery for forestry - Portable chain-saw safety requirements and testing - Part 2: Chain-saws for tree service (ISO 11681-2:2022)
This document specifies safety requirements and measures for verification for the design, construction,
transporting and commissioning for tree service of portable, combustion-engine, hand-held chain-saws
having a maximum mass of 4,3 kg (without the guide bar and saw-chain and with tanks empty).
The chain-saws are intended to be used, with the right hand on the rear handle and left hand on the
front handle, by a trained operator.
Dismantling and scrapping of the product is not covered by this document. Methods for the elimination
or reduction of hazards arising from the use of these machines and the type of information on safe
working practices to be provided by the manufacturer are specified.
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events relevant
to these machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably
foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Annex B).
This document is applicable to chain-saws manufactured after its date of publication.
NOTE Figure 1 shows an example of a chain-saw within the scope of this document.

Dieses Dokument legt die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen und Maßnahmen zur Feststellung deren Übereinstimmung für die Gestaltung, Konstruktion, Transport und Inbetriebnahme von tragbaren, handgehaltenen verbrennungsmotorisch betriebenen Kettensägen für die Baumpflege, mit einer maximalen Masse von 4,3 kg (ohne Führungsschiene und Sägekette und mit leeren Tanks) fest.
Die Kettensägen sind für die Benutzung mit der rechten Hand am hinteren Griff und der linken Hand am vorderen Griff, durch einen in der Anwendung ausgebildeten Benutzer vorgesehen.
Demontage und Verschrottung des Produkts werden nicht in diesem Dokument behandelt. Verfahren zur Vermeidung oder Verminderung der sich aus dem Gebrauch dieser Maschinen ergebenden Gefährdungen, sowie Informationen über sicheres Arbeiten, die vom Hersteller zur Verfügung zu stellen sind, werden festgelegt.
Dieses Dokument behandelt alle signifikanten Gefährdungen, Gefährdungssituationen oder Gefährdungsereignisse, die für diese Maschinen relevant sind, sofern sie zu dem vorgesehenen Zweck und bei vernünftigerweise durch den Hersteller vorhersehbarem Missbrauch eingesetzt werden (siehe Anhang B).
Dieses Dokument ist nicht anzuwenden für Kettensägen, die nach dessen Ausgabedatum hergestellt worden sind.
ANMERKUNG Bild 1 zeigt ein Beispiel einer Kettensäge im Geltungsbereich dieses Dokuments.

Le présent document spécifie les exigences de sécurité et les mesures pour leur vérification, pour la conception, la construction, le transport et la mise en service des scies à chaîne portatives à moteur à combustion interne pour l’élagage des arbres, tenues à la main, ayant une masse maximale de 4,3 kg (guide-chaîne et chaîne non compris et réservoirs vides).
Les scies à chaîne sont prévues pour être manœuvrées avec la main droite sur la poignée arrière et la main gauche sur la poignée avant, par un opérateur.
Le démontage et la mise au rebut du produit ne sont pas couverts par le présent document. Des méthodes pour éliminer ou réduire les dangers inhérents à l'utilisation de ces machines, ainsi que le type d'informations sur les pratiques d'utilisation sûres à fournir par le fabricant.
Le présent document traite de tous les dangers significatifs, situations dangereuses et événements dangereux pertinents pour ces machines, lorsqu'elles sont utilisées de la manière prévue et dans des conditions de mauvais usage raisonnablement prévisibles par le fabricant. (voir Annexe B)
Le présent document s’applique aux scies à chaîne fabriquées après sa date de publication.
NOTE La Figure 1 montre un exemple de scie à chaîne conforme au domaine d’application du présent document.

Ta dokument določa varnostne zahteve in ukrepe za preverjanje za zasnovo, konstrukcijo, prevažanje in usposobitev za zagon prenosnih, ročnih verižnih žag z notranjim izgorevanjem za nego dreves z največjo maso 4,3 kg (brez vodila in verige žage ter ob praznih rezervoarjih). Verižne žage lahko uporablja usposobljen upravljavec, ki ima desno roko na zadnjem ročaju, levo roko pa na sprednjem ročaju. Ta dokument ne zajema razstavljanja in razreza izdelka. Predpisane so metode za odpravljanje ali zmanjšanje tveganj, ki izhajajo iz uporabe teh strojev, in vrsta informacij o varnih delovnih praksah, ki jih mora zagotoviti proizvajalec. Ta dokument obravnava vsa večja tveganja, nevarne situacije in nevarne dogodke v zvezi s temi stroji, kadar se uporabljajo v skladu s predvidenim namenom in pod pogoji razumno predvidljive nepravilne uporabe, ki jih določa proizvajalec (glej dodatek B). This European Standard has been prepared under a Commission’s standardization request “M/396
mandate to CEN and CENELEC for Standardization in the field of machinery” to provide one voluntary
means of conforming to essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament
and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on machinery, and amending Directive 95/16/EC.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive compliance

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International
Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies
casting a vote.

ISO 11681-2 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 23, Tractors and machinery for agriculture

This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 11681-2:2011), which has been
technically revised.

Introduction
This document is a type-C standard as stated in ISO 12100.
The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events
are covered are indicated in the scope of this document.
When requirements of this type-C standard are different from those which are stated in type-A or
type-B standards, the requirements of this type-C standard take precedence over the requirements of
the other standards for machines that have been designed and built according to the requirements of
this type-C standard.

Part 2:
Chain-saws for tree service
1 Scope
This part of ISO 11681 gives safety requirements and measures for their verification for the design
and construction for tree service of portable, combustion-engine, hand-held chain-saws having a
maximum mass — without guide bar and saw chain and with tanks empty — of 4,3 kg, intended to be
used, with the right hand on the rear handle and left hand on the front handle, by a trained operator,
having read and understood the safety requirements provided in the instruction handbook, for pruning
and dismantling standing tree crowns, using the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Methods for the elimination or reduction of hazards arising from the use of these machines and the
type of information on safe working practices to be provided by the manufacturer are specified.
This part of ISO 11681 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events
relevant to these machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are
reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.
NOTE See Annex B for a list of significant hazards.
This part of ISO 11681 is applicable to chain-saws manufactured after its date of publication.

— the use of, and particular hazards associated with using, a chain-saw (for tree service work)
manufactured in accordance with the provisions of this part of ISO 11681, and
— the precautions to be taken to limit these hazards, including the wearing of the recommended
personal protective equipment (PPE)
4 Safety requirements and/or protective measures
4.1 General
Machines shall comply with the safety requirements and/or protective measures of this clause. In
addition, the machine shall be designed according to the principles of ISO 12100 for relevant but not
significant hazards which are not dealt with by this part of ISO 11681.
The safe operation of a chain-saw also depends on the safe environment associated with the use of
personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, slip-resistant footwear, and leg, eye, foot, hearing
and head protective equipment, as well as safe working procedures (see 5.1).
Except where otherwise specified in this part of ISO 11681, the safety distances specified in
ISO 13857:2008, 4.2.4.1 and 4.2.4.3, shall be met.
