Overview
The SIST HD 60364-7-701:2025/A11:2025 standard, issued by CLC, specifies requirements for low-voltage electrical installations in special locations containing a bath or shower. This standard provides updated harmonized modifications and national conditions to ensure safe electrical design and installation in wet environments to prevent electric shock risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
As an amendment to the HD 60364-7-701:2024 document, it integrates A-deviations, common modifications, and special national conditions (SNCs) tailored for multiple European countries. The update is critical for manufacturers, installers, and regulatory bodies involved in safe electrical installations in bathrooms and shower spaces.
Key Topics
Scope and Purpose
This standard addresses electrical safety and compliance requirements specifically for locations with bathtubs or showers, focusing on protection against electric shock through standardized zoning and equipment specifications.Protection Devices
Section 701.531 addresses devices for protection against electric shock by automatic supply disconnection, updating terminology and requirements for Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and related components.Zone Definitions and Limits
Electrical zones (zones 0, 1, 2, and 3) are defined based on proximity to water sources. The document clarifies zone boundaries, especially for baths, showers, shower basins, and special cases like showers without basins. It includes national variations for zone dimensions and depth rules in countries such as France, Spain, Austria, Germany, and the UK.Special National Conditions (SNCs)
These conditions reflect local regulations and practices in a number of countries:- Austria: Descriptions of zones and mandatory equipotential bonding in wet locations.
- France: Specific prohibitions such as PELV not being permitted, unique partitioning rules, and specialized volume determination.
- Germany: Specific RCD restrictions, zone specifications, and wiring installation requirements.
- Spain: Unique zone height and volume rules, electrical protection requirements, and limitations on wiring system installation.
- Additional adaptations for Finland, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Protection Against Electric Shock
Harmonized with IEC 60364-4-41, focusing on automatic disconnection, equipotential bonding, and protective measures suitable for wet locations.Electrical Equipment Protection
Requirements for equipment ingress protection (e.g., IPX4 or higher), installation of sockets, luminaires, and specialized equipment like whirlpools, in accordance with zone classifications.
Applications
This standard is essential for ensuring:
- Safe electrical installations in bathrooms and shower rooms, reducing risks linked to water exposure.
- Compliance for electricians, electrical engineers, and inspectors working in residential, commercial, and public building contexts involving wet environments.
- Development and manufacturing of electrical equipment designed for use near water, such as lighting fixtures, switches, and outlets.
- Implementation of national and European electrical safety regulations across multiple countries, harmonizing electrical installation standards while respecting specific national deviations.
- Design and verification of protective measures including RCDs, equipotential bonding, and electrical separations suited to low-voltage circuits in special locations.

Conclusion
The SIST HD 60364-7-701:2025/A11:2025 amendment plays a vital role in defining precise safety requirements for low-voltage electrical installations in wet locations containing baths and showers. Incorporating nuanced national deviations and protections against electric shock, this standard supports safer environments and regulatory alignment across Europe. Stakeholders in electrical installation, construction, product manufacturing, and regulations should integrate this standard to ensure compliance, safety, and interoperability.

(further text unchanged, five dashes)
701.30.104 Description of zone 2
Modify the text as follows:
Zone 2 is limited:
a) for a bath tub with or without shower and for a shower above a shower basin
by:
(further text unchanged, three dashes)

701.415.2 Add 701.415.2 as follows:
If there is no protective equipotential bonding according to 411.3.1.2 implemented
in existing electrical installations, then additional protective equipotential
bonding according to 415.2.1 shall be provided in locations containing a bath
or shower.
(Sub)clause Special national condition
Finland
701.1 In Finland depth of 6 cm does not apply.
France
701.1 Add the following:
In France, a depth of 6 cm does not apply. The fourth conditions is:
– the volume within the walls, floor and ceiling (excepted perforated ceiling) that
border the location containing a bath or shower.
Any fixed and sustainable wall, joined to a standing surface, does limit volumes
when its height is greater than or equal to that of the volume and then applying
the rule of horizontal bypass. In the other cases, this wall does not delimit the
volumes.
Removable shower walls or walls that are not linked to the ceiling and/or ground
do not delimit the locations containing a bath or a shower.
701.101 Add the following:
In France, the bypass rule does not apply vertically.
Delete Figure 6 (Dimensions of zones 0 and 1: side view of a shower without
basin and with fixed partition).
701.3.4 Add the following:
In France the definition of fixed partition (701.3.4) and its Notes to entry are not
needed.
701.30.101 Add the following sentence after the second paragraph:
"In France, in fixed partitions only fixed walls that belong to the building and
linked to the standing ground limit zones. Fixed partitions that do not meet those
conditions as well as mobile partitions cannot limit zones."
701.30.103 Add the following note
In France
‘The space under a bath tub or a shower basin is not considered to be zone 1 but
as a specific zone.’
701.30.104 According to §701.2 of NF C 15-100/A5. The following sentence doesn’t apply in
France :
“b) for showers, there is no zone 2. (see Figure 5 to Figure 10).”
There is a zone 2 in France for showers.
701.414 Add the following:
in France PELV is not permitted.
701.415.1 Add the following:
In France PELV is not permitted.
701.512.2.4.101.3 In France
– PELV is not permitted.
– SELV with a rated voltage exceeding 12 V AC or 30 V DC is not allowed
