Overview

EN 60335-2-14:2003/prAA is a CLC (European) committee draft amendment to the household appliance safety standard for kitchen machines (merged into EN 60335-2-14:2006). It updates IEC/EN 60335-2-14 with specific requirements and test methods that address modern kitchen appliances - notably cordless blenders, food processors and similar machines - to improve moisture resistance, mechanical safety and abnormal‑operation behavior.

• New definitions

  • Cordless blender: a blender with a motor that is powered and operated only when placed on its associated stand.

• Marking and instructions

  • Stands for cordless blenders must be marked with manufacturer identification and model.
  • Instructions must state the blender is to be used only with its stand and include a safety caution if the blender+stand can be lifted together.

• Moisture resistance and spillage test

  • A 30 ml spillage test: 30 ml of ~1% NaCl solution poured through an 8 mm tube from 200 mm height onto the stand’s connecting device (schematic shown as Figure 103).
  • After spillage, the stand must pass the dielectric strength test referenced in the base standard (16.3).
  • Connecting devices of stands must not be affected by water.

• Abnormal operation

  • Specified operating durations for endurance tests (examples: certain blenders and mixers operated 30 s; some mills tested for 5 min).

• Stability and mechanical hazards

  • Actuating switches tested with a 40 mm diameter rod (hemispherical end) applied with ≤ 5 N; appliance must not operate.
  • Controls on cordless appliances with cutting blades accessible to IEC 61032 probe B shall require two separate movements.

• Mechanical strength

  • Blender bowls and cutting blades tested for impact/crushing using ice cubes (20 mm cubes at –18 °C; number based on bowl capacity).
  • Coupler/contact durability test for cordless blenders: mating/unmating cycles (10 000 with current, 10 000 without) at ~1.1× rated current to verify continued compliance.

7 Marking and instructions
7.1 Add the following.

stand provided.
