CEN/TC 402 - Private family Swimming Pools and related materials/equipment and accessories

This document specifies the design and use requirements, the test methods and the scales of classification of the environmental performance when using a domestic swimming pool.
This document is applicable to outdoor pools, as defined in EN 16582 (all parts), intended to be permanently installed, and shall be read jointly with the latter.
This document allows the evaluation of the environmental performance efficiency of the use of domestic swimming pools.
NOTE 1   This document only covers the operational phase of the basin. All the other stages of the product life cycle, such as the extraction of resources, the acquisition of raw materials, production, distribution, use and end-of- life processing, including final disposal, are not covered by this document.
This document does not apply to:
—   domestic indoor swimming pools and their specific functions of buildings housing such as air treatment or the lighting or insulation of the buildings, etc.;
—   domestic spas covered by EN 17125, or their specific equipment;
—   swimming pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1, or their specific equipment;
—   spas for public use, or their specific equipment;
—   mini-pools covered by EN 16927, or their specific equipment;
—   paddling pools covered by EN 71-1 and EN 71-8, or their specific equipment;
—   non-permanently installed pools covered by EN 16582 (all parts).
NOTE 2   This document does not cover non-permanently installed pools, due to the fact that absolute majority of these types of pools are not equipped with heating, and are operated and used only for relatively short time periods (range of 3-4 months). Moreover, the power consumption of pumps used are usually low (range of less than 1 kWh per day).
Nevertheless, to ensure a future objective comparison also with these types of pools and other permanently installed pools, a calculation method for non-permanently installed pools will be established and considered in the next revision of this document.
This document also does not apply to the following equipment:
—   personal hygiene devices, such as showers or footbaths, or their specific equipment;
—   devices for water features, such as water play equipment or fountains, or their corresponding specific equipment (dedicated pumps, etc.).

This European Standard specifies the general safety and quality requirements and test methods for domestic swimming pools. These requirements and test methods are applicable to inground, aboveground or recessed swimming pool structures, including their installation and means of access.
This standard does not apply to:
-   pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   spas for domestic or public use;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8.

This document specifies safety requirements and test methods for domestic spas/whirlpool spas/hot tubs (see 3.2) for indoor and/or outdoor use, covering the following:
-   portable spas including inflatable spas;
-   exercise spas (factory-built or field-engineered);
-   Scandinavian hot tubs;
-   field-engineered spas;
-   any associated equipment.
This document also provides advice and guidance for installers and maintainers of domestic spas/whirlpool spas/hot tubs.
This document is not applicable to:
-   any type of swimming pool (domestic or public);
-   mini-pools according to EN 16927;
-   public spas (public use according to EN 15288);
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8;
-   spas specifically intended for physical/medical therapy;
-   spas specifically intended for beauty therapy;
-   flotation tanks and flotation pools;
-   bath tubs (including whirlpool baths);
-   natural spas (name used to describe a bathing area, which is filled with untreated geothermally heated water);
-   birthing pools.

This European Standard specifies the general safety and quality requirements and test methods for domestic mini-pools.
These requirements and test methods are applicable to mini-pool structures, including their installation and possible means of access.
This European Standard does not apply to:
-   pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   swimming pools for domestic use covered by EN 16582 series;
-   spas for domestic or public use;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8

This European Standard specifies filtration requirements and test methods of filter elements or media, filtration units or systems designed to be used in domestic swimming pools.
This standard applies to swimming pools as defined in EN 16582-1 and will be read in conjunction with it.
This standard does not apply to:
-   pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   spas for domestic or public use;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8;
-   pre filtration;
-   natural and nature like pools.
NOTE   For circulation systems see prEN 16713-2 and for treatment systems prEN 16713-3.

This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for equipment and means of pool water treatment utilized in domestic swimming pools.
This standard applies for swimming pools as defined in EN 16582-1 and will be read in conjunction with it.
This standard does not apply to:
-   pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   spas for domestic or public use;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8;
-   natural and nature like pools.
NOTE   For filtration systems see prEN 16713-1 and for circulation systems see prEN 16713-2.
The purpose of this standard is furthermore to ensure a consistently high quality of pool water in terms of hygiene in order to prevent damage to human health, particularly as a result of pathogens. At the same time, account is also to be taken of the well-being of the bathers (e.g. by minimizing the side effects caused by disinfectants). To this end, requirements are specified for water quality and water treatment.

This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for circulation systems and is applicable to equipment used in domestic swimming pools and designed for the circulation of water (introduction and/or extraction).
This standard applies for swimming pools as defined in EN 16582-1 and will be read in conjunction with it.
This standard does not apply to:
-   pools for public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   spas for domestic or public use;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8;
-   pre filtration;
-   natural and nature like pools.
NOTE   For filtration systems see prEN 16713-1 and for treatment systems prEN 16713-3.

This part of EN 16582 specifies the specific safety and quality requirements and test methods for domestic partially or fully inground swimming pools in addition to the general requirements of EN 16582 1 and shall be read in conjunction with it. The requirements of this specific standard take priority over those in EN 16582-1.
These requirements and test methods are only applicable to partially or fully inground pool structures, including their means of access.
This European Standard applies to pools with a minimum water depth of more than 400 mm.
This European Standard does not apply to:
-   pools of public use covered by EN 15288-1;
-   paddling pools according to EN 71-8;
-   domestic or public use spas.

This part of FprEN 16582 specifies the specific safety and quality requirements and test methods for domestic aboveground swimming pools in addition to the general requirements of FprEN 16582 1 and shall be read in conjunction with it. The requirements of this standard take priority over those in FprEN 16582-1.
These requirements and test methods are applicable to aboveground pool structures, including their means of access.
This European Standard applies to pools with a minimum water depth of more than 400 mm.
This European Standard does not apply to:
—   pools of public use covered by EN 15288-1;
