CEN/TC 261/SC 5/WG 22 - Metal packaging-wall thickness max 0,49 mm
Study and evaluation of international and national and other standards widely in use, for implementation into the CEN standardization work and elaboration of new standards, if requested, for packaging basically made of metal (max wall, thickness 0,49 mm). The WG 2 should avoid working on items which are covered by programmes of work of other WGs of TC 261 or other relevant TCs and establish a liaison if desirable.

General Information
This document specifies the relationship between the nominal volume of product and the maximum nominal brimful capacity of the outer container of the compartmented aerosol dispenser.

This document specifies the critical dimensions of valve cups suitable for clinching into 25,4 mm aperture metal aerosol containers.
This document is applicable to aperture metal aerosol containers which are used with the metal aerosol containers in accordance with EN 14847 and EN 15006.
This European Standard does not specify dimples on aperture metal aerosol containers.
NOTE To provide satisfactory filling in production, dimples are no longer considered essential but might still be used. Their presence could cause damage of the 25,4 mm aperture and their presence on lacquered cups can give rise to coating defects at the dimple feature. Thus, in the interest of simplicity and reduction of difficulties, dimples are excluded from this standard.

The aim of this European standard is to define the range of the capacities of the cans defined by their nominal gross-lidded capacities, their metal thickness not exceeding 0.49 mm. It is based upon ISO 10653:1993. Recommended diameters related to this range of capacities are shown in the Annex A (informative) to this standard. The diameters quoted are as defined in EN 20090/1. Light gauge open-top metal containers for liquid products with added gas defined by their nominal filling volumes are the subject of another European standard.

This European standard lists the range of nominal filling volumes in common use for rectangular, cylindrical and tapered general use containers of up to 30000 ml nominal volume, metal thickness not exceeding 0.49 mm nominal. Specifically, this standard relates to flat top rectangular containers for liquid products i.e. those containers fitted with an aperture suitable for pouring.
