General Information
This document gives test methods to determine the dimensional variance between elements of laminate floor coverings in a manufactured free-standing shape (unrestricted) in respect of thickness, length, width, squareness, straightness, width flatness, length flatness, openings between assembled elements and height differences between assembled elements. NOTE These test methods are also applicable to other mechanically assembled panels, e.g. modular multilayer floorings.

ISO 24338:2014 specifies two methods (A and B) for measuring abrasion of laminate floor covering elements. The tests described measure the ability of the surface layer to resist abrasive wear-through. Abrasion, according to method A, is achieved by rotating a test specimen in contact with a pair of loaded cylindrical wheels covered with specified abrasive paper. The resistance to wear, according to method B, is evaluated by abrading the face of test pieces with a specified abrasive applied by means of two loaded wheels. The number of revolutions of the test specimen required to cause a defined degree of abrasion is measured by both methods. NOTE The precision of the methods is not known. When inter-laboratory data become available, a precision statement will be added.

ISO 24339:2006 specifies a process to determine the capability of laminate and textile floor coverings to withstand exposure to moderate humid and dry climate conditions. The subclauses pertaining to flatness, openings between elements and height differences between elements only apply to laminated floor coverings.

ISO 24335:2006 specifies how to determine the impact resistance of laminate floor covering elements. The test described measures the ability of the surface layer to withstand impact from both small and large objects dropped on the floor covering. The testing is destructive by means of the impact on the surface layer from one small and one larger steel ball simulating different scenarios. The force of the small steel ball and the drop height of the larger steel ball are used to define the ability for a laminate floor covering element to withstand impact.

ISO 24336:2005 specifies a test method for the determination of thickness swelling of laminate floor-covering elements after partial immersion in water. The testing is destructive and is mainly intended to evaluate the behaviour of the laminate floor-covering element in contact with water. Possible pre-attached soft backing material, sub-layers or any other material integrated at the underside of the floor-covering element are not included in the test and should therefore be removed before testing.
