SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This guide is intended to educate new and experienced users of cannabis extract vaporizers on the various characteristics that can be available in cannabis extract vaporizers.  
4.2 This guide will outline characteristics of cannabis extract vaporizers, which includes individual components, design elements, and basic universal functions.  
4.3 This guide will categorize common characteristics using categories based on different technologies and describe in simple terms the details attributable to each category, but is not intended to be all inclusive.  
4.4 This standard will serve to provide clarity to industry, government, and the public on terminology and universal functions of cannabis extract vaporizers.  
4.5 Reference to a type characteristic in this guide is not intended in any manner to denote endorsement or approval of said type by ASTM International.
SCOPE
1.1 This guide is intended to define characteristics, functions, and technologies commonly present in cannabis/hemp extract vaporizers.  
1.2 This guide shall apply to vaporizers used to incorporate the extracts of a cannabis plant regardless of the type of cannabis plant from which they where derived. For the sake of brevity, the term “cannabis” shall be used from now on to refer to any type of cannabis plant (cannabis/hemp).  
1.3 This guide will provide clarity to the industry, government, consumers, and the public as way to understand what different features and technologies are present in cannabis extract vaporizers.  
1.4 This guide shall be used in conjunction with Classification D8376.  
1.5 For the purposes of this guide, the terms concentrate and extract are interchangeable in the context of source material being consumed. Concentrate and extract are two different products consumed in the same way.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This classification defines various types of cannabis extract vaporizer devices.  
4.2 Extract vaporizer devices can be used to incorporate extracts intended for inhalation from any type of cannabis plant. There is no distinction between those extracts intended for inhalation of a cannabis plant that can be classified as “hemp” and those that cannot, other than the delta-9-THC content. Both forms of extracts are intended to be incorporated into the body by means of direct inhalation of the vapors that result from either combustion or vaporization of the substance. Therefore, the classification system presented in this standard shall be applicable to any vaporizer device intended to be used to facilitate the vaporization of an extract of a cannabis plant intended for inhalation regardless of the type of cannabis plant from which the extract was derived.  
4.3 The purpose of this classification is to standardize the naming of device types under the classification.  
4.4 The classification system breaks the device types into three main categories and two subcategories. These are intended to aid buyers and sellers of these devices in accurately defining the products they are buying or selling. This classification system shall also aid in the understanding of the various types of extract vaporizing devices that exist in the marketplace by reducing them down to their most common denominator: are they handheld or desktop or universal, do they come prefilled or not, and do they connect to a power source by means of threads or a magnet or otherwise.

Standard Test Method for Nicotine and 3-Ethenylpyridine in Indoor Air

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 In order to estimate ETS concentrations, there needs to be a marker or tracer for ETS that is unique or highly specific to tobacco smoke, in sufficient concentrations in air to be measured easily at realistic smoking rates, and in constant proportion to the other components of ETS for a variety of tobacco blends and environmental conditions. Nicotine and 3-ethenylpyridine have been used as tracers of the vapor phase of ETS. Nicotine is the major alkaloid of tobacco and a major constituent of ETS. The determination of nicotine concentration has often been used to estimate the concentration of ETS; however, due to its unpredictable decay kinetics, nicotine may not be an ideal tracer. Because nicotine readily adsorbs to building materials and room furnishings and is depleted from ETS at a rate faster than most other components, some have suggested that nicotine concentrations underestimate ETS concentrations. Although this is true in many environments during the generation of smoke, the converse is true in environments with a recent past history of smoking. The adsorbed nicotine slowly desorbs over time, resulting in an overestimation of ETS concentrations. Thus, measured concentrations of nicotine precisely assess only airborne nicotine and indicate only that smoking has taken place; they do not necessarily indicate the presence, and certainly not the concentrations, of other ETS constituents. 3-Ethenylpyridine, on the other hand, has been shown to track exactly the vapor phase of ETS as measured by CO and FID response (3). It is for these reasons that 3-ethenylpyridine may be a better tracer of ETS (1, 4, 5). The ETS at high concentrations is known to be annoying and irritating to individuals, and concerns over potential health effects have also been expressed. There is a definite need to have reliable methods for the estimation of ETS levels in order to evaluate its effect. SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the sampling/analysis of nicotine and 3-ethenylpyridine (3-EP) in indoor air. This test method is based upon the collection of nicotine and 3-EP by adsorption on a sorbent resin, extraction of nicotine and 3-EP from the sorbent resin, and determination by gas chromatography (GC) with nitrogen selective detection  (1).2  
1.2 The active samplers consist of an macroreticular polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer (for example, XAD-4) sorbent tube attached to a sampling pump. Macroreticular polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer is referred to “sorbent resin” throughout this method. This test method is applicable to personal or area sampling.  
1.3 This test method is limited in sample duration by the capacity of the sorbent tube for nicotine (about 300 μg). This test method has been evaluated up to 24-h sample duration; however, samples are typically acquired for  at least  1 h (sometimes  only  1 h) (2).  
1.4 For this test method, limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) for nicotine at a sampling rate of 1.5 L/min are, respectively, 0.11 μg/m3  and 0.37 μg/m 3  for 1-h sample duration and 0.01 μg/m3  and 0.05 μg/m3  for 8-h sample duration. The LOD and LOQ for 3-EP at a sampling rate of 1.5 L/min are, respectively, 0.06 μg/m 3  and 0.19 μg/m3  for 1-h sample duration and 0.01 μg/m3  and 0.02 μg/m3  for 8-h sample duration (2). Both LOD and LOQ can be reduced by increasing the sensitivity of the thermionic specific detector.

Standard Test Method for Measuring the Ignition Strength of Cigarettes

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The most common initiating event in a fatal fire is the dropping of a cigarette onto a bed or piece of upholstered furniture, according to statistics provided by the National Fire Protection Association (4). Test Methods E1352 and E1353 and tests NFPA 261 and NFPA 260 have been developed to evaluate the susceptibility of upholstered furniture mock-ups and components to ignition by cigarettes. Federal Standard 16 CFR Part 1632, Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads, was promulgated to reduce the likelihood that mattresses and mattress pads would ignite from a lighted cigarette.
Note 1: While Test Methods E1352 and E1353 were originally equivalent to NFPA 261 and 260, respectively, this is no longer the case.  
5.2 This test method enables comparison of the relative ignition strength of different cigarette designs.  
5.3 In this procedure, the specimens are subjected to a set of laboratory conditions. If different conditions are substituted or the end use conditions are changed, it may not be possible, using this test, to predict quantitative changes in the fire test response characteristics measured. Therefore, the quantitative results are valid only for the fire test exposure conditions described in this procedure.
SCOPE
1.1 This fire-test-response standard provides a standard measure of the capability of a cigarette, positioned on one of four standard substrates, to generate sufficient heat to continue burning and thus potentially cause ignition of bedding or upholstered furniture.  
1.2 This method has value as a predictor of the relative propensity of a cigarette to ignite upholstered furnishings.  
1.3 This method is applicable to cigarettes that burn along the length of a tobacco column.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 The primary use of these test methods is testing to determine the specified mechanical properties of steel, stainless steel, and related alloy products for the evaluation of conformance of such products to a material specification under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 and its subcommittees as designated by a purchaser in a purchase order or contract.  
4.1.1 These test methods may be and are used by other ASTM Committees and other standards writing bodies for the purpose of conformance testing.  
4.1.2 The material condition at the time of testing, sampling frequency, specimen location and orientation, reporting requirements, and other test parameters are contained in the pertinent material specification or in a general requirement specification for the particular product form.  
4.1.3 Some material specifications require the use of additional test methods not described herein; in such cases, the required test method is described in that material specification or by reference to another appropriate test method standard.

1.1 This practice describes procedures for making joints suitable for pressure service with polyethylene (PE) pipe and fittings by means of electrofusion joining techniques in, but not limited to, a field environment. Other suitable electrofusion joining procedures are available from various sources including fitting manufacturers. This standard does not purport to address all possible electrofusion joining procedures, or to preclude the use of qualified procedures developed by other parties that have been proven to produce reliable electrofusion joints. Note 2: Commercially available materials classified with a thermoplastic pipe material designation code beginning with PE 14, PE 23, PE 24, PE 27, PE 33, PE 34, PE 36, and PE 46, and PE 47 in accordance with Specification D3350 and Terminology F412 are generally acceptable for electrofusion joining using this practice. Consult with the pipe or fitting manufacturer for specific compatibility information.  
1.3 Parts that are within the dimensional tolerances given in present ASTM specifications are required to produce sound joints between polyethylene pipe and fittings when using the joining techniques described in this practice.
