Standard Specification for Ice Making Machines, Icemaker-Dispensers, and Ice Dispensing Equipment

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the design, performance, and certification requirements pertinent to the construction of commercial automatic ice making machines used in manufacturing and processing ice, including the attached equipment used in storing and dispensing the produced ice for human consumption. This specification does not apply to icemakers of the tray type, ice vending machines, icemakers and icemaker kits used in household refrigerators or freezers, and block ice manufacturing plants. The ice machines covered here are classified into the following types, grades, classes, and styles: Type I—ice machine with or without ice storage bin; Type II—icemaker-dispenser machine; and Type III—ice dispenser; Grade 1—self-contained air-cooled condenser; Grade 2—self-contained water-cooled condenser; Grade 3—remote water-cooled; and Grade 4—remote air-cooled; Class A—cubed ice; Class B—flaked ice; Class C—nugget ice; and Class D—other ice shapes; Style 1—corrosion-resisting steel cabinet; Style 2—carbon steel cabinet; and Style 3—plastic cabinet. Representative production models of the ice making machines shall pass the performance and operational tests, and should function satisfactorily as specified.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers requirements for commercial automatic ice making equipment. It covers the equipment and devices used in manufacturing and processing ice for human consumption and the attached equipment used in storing and dispensing ice in connection with this equipment.  
1.2 This specification does not apply to icemakers of the tray type, ice vending machines, or icemakers and icemaker kits used in household refrigerators or freezers. This specification is not intended to cover block ice manufacturing plants.  
1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The SI values given in parenthesis are provided for information only.

Standard Test Method for Performance of Self-Contained Soft Serve and Shake Freezers

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The freeze-down energy consumption and duration can be used to determine time and energy required for a freezer to be ready to serve when loaded with mix.  
5.2 The minimum dispensing interval determination is used to determine the rate at which the product will be dispensed during the Heavy-Use Energy Consumption and Production Capacity Test (10.5). Measuring overrun during this test is critical to determining production capacity rating in gallons per hour.  
5.3 Heavy-use energy consumption can be used by an operator to determine energy consumption during peak usage when selecting a soft-serve freezer. Measuring overrun during this test is critical to determining production capacity rating in gallons per hour.  
5.4 Production capacity can be used by an operator in selecting a soft-serve or shake freezer that meets their production requirements. Measuring overrun during this test is critical to determining production capacity rating in gallons per hour.  
5.5 Impact draw is used to determine the peak rate at which servable quality product (as defined in 10.2.5) can be dispensed from a soft-serve or shake freezer.  
5.6 Idle energy rate is a precise indicator of a soft serve freezer’s energy performance under a stabilized ready-to-serve operating condition. This information enables the food service operator to consider energy performance when selecting soft-serve or shake equipment.

Standard Test Methods and Definitions for Mechanical Testing of Steel Products

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 The primary use of these test methods is testing to determine the specified mechanical properties of steel, stainless steel, and related alloy products for the evaluation of conformance of such products to a material specification under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 and its subcommittees as designated by a purchaser in a purchase order or contract.  
4.1.1 These test methods may be and are used by other ASTM Committees and other standards writing bodies for the purpose of conformance testing.  
4.1.2 The material condition at the time of testing, sampling frequency, specimen location and orientation, reporting requirements, and other test parameters are contained in the pertinent material specification or in a general requirement specification for the particular product form.  
4.1.3 Some material specifications require the use of additional test methods not described herein; in such cases, the required test method is described in that material specification or by reference to another appropriate test method standard.  
4.2 These test methods are also suitable to be used for testing of steel, stainless steel and related alloy materials for other purposes, such as incoming material acceptance testing by the purchaser or evaluation of components after service exposure.  
4.2.1 As with any mechanical testing, deviations from either specification limits or expected as-manufactured properties can occur for valid reasons besides deficiency of the original as-fabricated product. These reasons include, but are not limited to: subsequent service degradation from environmental exposure (for example, temperature, corrosion); static or cyclic service stress effects, mechanically-induced damage, material inhomogeneity, anisotropic structure, natural aging of select alloys, further processing not included in the specification, sampling limitations, and measuring equipment calibration uncertainty. Standard Test Method for Hexane Extraction of Leather

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
3.1 This test method measures the amount of hexane-soluble lubricant present in all types of leather. Adequate lubrication prevents abrasion of leather fibers during flexing. This lubrication is generally obtained from the fat liquor added at the tannery. Some lubrication is also obtained from natural grease produced during the life of the animal.

Standard Practice for Assessment of Muscle and Bone Tissue Responses to Long-Term Implantable Materials Used in Medical Devices

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This practice is a guideline for short-term and long-term assessment of skeletal muscle and bone tissue responses to long-term implant materials. For testing of final finished medical devices, the test article for implantation shall be as for intended use, including packaging and sterilization. The tissue responses to the test article are compared to the skeletal muscle and/or bone tissue response(s) elicited by control materials. The controls consistently demonstrate known cellular reaction and wound healing.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice provides guidelines for biological assessment of tissue responses to nonabsorbable for medical device implants. It assesses the effects of the material that is implanted intramuscularly or intraosseously. The experimental protocol is not designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of the systemic toxicity, immune response, carcinogenicity, or mutagenicity of the material since other standards address these issues. It applies only to materials with projected applications in humans where the materials will reside in bone or skeletal muscle tissue in excess of 30 days. Applications in other organ systems or tissues may be inappropriate and are therefore excluded. Control materials are well recognized with a well-characterized long-term response and can include metals and any one of the metal alloys in Specification F67, F75, F90, F136, F138, or F562, high purity dense aluminum oxide as described in Specification F603, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene as stated in Specification F648, or USP polyethylene negative control.

Standard Performance Specification for Hydraulic Cement

SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers hydraulic cements for both general and special applications. There are no restrictions on the composition of the cement or its constituents (see Note 1).
Note 1: There are two related hydraulic cement standards, Specification C150/C150M for portland cement and Specifications C595/C595M for blended cements, both of which contain prescriptive and performance requirements  
1.2 This performance specification classifies cements based on specific requirements for general use, high early strength, resistance to attack by sulfates, and heat of hydration. Optional requirements are provided for the property of low reactivity with alkali-silica-reactive aggregates and for air-entraining cements.  
1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. Values in SI units [or inch-pound units] shall be obtained by measurement in SI units [or inch-pound units] or by appropriate conversion, using the Rules for Conversion and Rounding given in IEEE/ASTM SI 10, of measurements made in other units [or SI units]. Values are stated in only SI units when inch-pound units are not used in practice.

Standard Test Method for Determining Arc Ratings of Hand Protective Products Developed and Used for Electrical Arc Flash Protection

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method is intended for the determination of the arc rating of a hand protective product material, or a combination of hand protective product materials.  
5.1.1 Because of the variability of the arc exposure, different heat transmission values are observed at individual sensors. Evaluate the results of each sensor in accordance with Section 12.  
5.2 This test method maintains the specimen in a static, vertical position and does not involve movement except that resulting from the exposure.  
5.3 This test method specifies a standard set of exposure conditions. Different exposure conditions have the potential to produce different results. In addition to the standard set of exposure conditions, other conditions are allowed and shall be documented in the reporting of the testing results.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method is used to determine the arc rating of hand protective products in the form of gloves, glove materials, glove material systems, or other protective products designed to fit on the hand and specifically intended for electric arc flash protection use as protective accessories for workers exposed to electric arcs. The arc rating is determined in the test with an arc that has a heat flux value of 2100 kW/m2 [50 cal/cm2/s].  
1.2 This test method will determine the arc rating of hand protective products made of materials that meet the following requirements for flame resistance: less than 150 mm [6 in.] char length, less than 2 s afterflame and no melt and drip when tested in accordance with Test Method D6413, receive a reported 50 % probability of ignition of a material or flammable underlayer (see definition of ignition50) by this method, or that have been evaluated and pass the ignition withstand requirements of this test method.  
1.2.1 It is the intent of this test method to be used for hand protective products that are flame resistant or that have an adequate flame resistance for the required hazard (see 1.2). Non-flame resistant hand protective products may be used as under layers in multiple-layer systems or tested for ignition probability or ignition withstand.  
1.2.2 Hand protective products tested by this test method are new and ratings received by this method may be reduced or eliminated by hydrocarbon loading (gasoline, diesel fuel, transformer oil, etc.), sweat, dirt, grease, or other contaminants. The end user takes responsibility for use of hand protective products tested by this method when contaminated in such a manner that could reduce or eliminate the arc rating of the hand protective products.  
1.2.3 This test method is designed to provide information for gloves used for electric arc protection only. This test method is not suitable for determining electrical protective properties of hand protective products.  
1.3 This test method is used to measure and describe the properties of hand protective products in response to convective and radiant energy generated by an electric arc under controlled laboratory conditions.  
1.4 This test method does not apply to electrical contact or electrical shock hazards.  
1.5 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined  
1.6 This standard shall not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire assessment that takes into account all of the factors, which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use.
