SCOPE
1.1 This specification provides the performance characteristics and qualification tests required for gasketed mechanical couplings including grooved-type mechanical couplings for grooved end pipe, mechanical restraint couplings for plain end pipe and mechanical compression couplings for plain end pipe. These couplings are for use at temperatures within the recommended temperature range of their respective gaskets. Consult manufacturer for details.
1.2 The values stated in metric units (SI) are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses (inch/pound) are provided for information purposes.
1.3 Measuring and test equipment (MTE) used in the performance of the tests described herein shall be calibrated using equipment which is traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) or calibrated in accordance with the requirements detailed in BS 5781 Part 1 against standards traceable to National Standards.
1.4 As this is not a dimensional standard, nor does it contain component dimensions, the intermixing of sub-components such as gaskets and housings between manufacturers is not recommended and constitutes non-conformance with this standard.

Standard Specification for Quick Disconnect Couplings (6 in. NPS and Smaller)

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the manufacturing data required to produce a variety of styles and sizes of quick disconnect couplings up to and including NPS 6 for marine use that ensure interchangeability and safety of operation. Quick disconnect couplings shall consist of the following types: Standard class and Class I. Adapters and couplers are to be produced as castings or forgings. Cam handles may be produced by casting, forging, or sintered metal processes. Maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) for a Standard Class coupling shall be 25 % of its burst pressure. Maximum allowable working pressure for a Class I coupling shall be 20 % of its burst pressure. The following test shall be performed: pressure tests and production test.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the manufacturing data required to produce a variety of styles and sizes of quick disconnect couplings up to and including NPS 6 for marine use that ensure interchangeability and safety of operation.  
1.2 In general, quick disconnect couplings are hose and pipe end fittings that permit quick mechanical attachment by means other than bolted or threaded fittings. The method of attachment is a male coupling half (adapter, tank unit) that fits into a female coupling half (coupler, hose unit) of the same size.  
1.2.1 By closing attached cam handles on cam and groove couplings, the coupling halves seal, permitting fluids to be transported under pressure through the quick disconnect coupling.  
1.2.2 By aligning the rollers on the hose unit coupler with the notches on the tank unit adapter on the dry disconnect coupling (DDC), push the coupler onto the adapter and rotate past 100°. This will lock the couplings together, create a seal and open the internal valves for full flow with low pressure drop. The dual poppet design shut-off mechanism seals liquids and gases behind the valve, eliminating fugitive emissions and the danger of a spill upon disconnection.

ABSTRACT
This specification establishes the minimum requirements for the mechanical design, manufacture, inspection, and testing of circular metallic bellows-type expansion joints used to absorb the dimensional changes resulting from piping thermal expansion or contraction, as well as the movement of terminal equipment and supporting structures. Materials used shall be free from defects that would adversely affect the performance of the expansion joint. All pressure retaining components shall be hydrostatically tested to meet the requirements prescribed.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification establishes the minimum requirements for the mechanical design, manufacture, inspection, and testing of circular metallic bellows-type expansion joints used to absorb the dimensional changes resulting from piping thermal expansion or contraction, as well as the movement of terminal equipment and supporting structures.  
1.2 Additional or better features, over and above the minimum requirements set by this specification, are not prohibited by this specification.  
1.3 The layout of many piping systems provides inherent flexibility through natural changes in direction so that any displacements produce primarily bending or torsional strains, within acceptable limits. Where the system lacks this inherent flexibility the designer should then consider adding flexibility through the use of metallic bellows-type expansion joints.

Standard Specification for Non-Metallic Expansion Joints

ABSTRACT
This specification provides the minimum requirements for construction, materials, performance, and dimensions of arch-type non-metallic expansion joints. Expansion joints shall be fabricated with an elastomeric tube reinforced with multiple plies of woven cloth or tire cord covered with synthetic rubber. The inner tube shall be a natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or blend of synthetic rubber. The woven cloth or tire cord shall be nylon, polyester, fiberglass, or aramid, and shall not be cotton. The reinforcing fabric shall be impregnated with a compatible friction stock. Additional reinforcement to the fabric may be provided in the body of the expansion joint and may be solid metal rings or wire embedded in the synthetic rubber. Body rings, if used, must be welded before being installed in the expansion joint body. All expansion joints shall be manufactured with a cover of Hypalon or Neoprene (Chloroprene). The requirements for (1) integral rubber and fabric flanges, (2) floating metal flanges, (3) arches, (4) metallic flanges, (5) retaining rings, and (6) expansion joint cover and body. All expansion joints shall be designed for the specified pressure requirement. Performance requirements for single arch expansion movement and multiple arch-joint movement, as well as the pressure rating, are specified. The following tests shall be performed if required: burst test for prototype testing, hydrostatic test for production testing, and flame resistance test.

ABSTRACT
This specification provides the performance characteristics and qualification tests required for gasket mechanical couplings (GMCs) including grooved-type mechanical couplings for grooved end pipe, mechanical restraint couplings for plain end pipe and mechanical compression couplings for plain end pipe. These couplings are for use at temperatures within the recommended temperature range of their respective gaskets. The GMCs are classified into two types: Type I which are the groove mechanical couplings and Type II which are plain end mechanical couplings. Also, they can be classified into various grades based on successful completion of testing. They can also be grouped into three classes in accordance to joint characteristics: Class 1 which is rigid and restrained, Class 2 which is flexible and restrained, and Class 3 which is flexible and unrestrained. The housings of grooved GMCs shall be made from either ductile iron, aluminum alloy, or iron-chromium-nickel alloy. Bolts of these couplings shall be made from carbon steel and corrosion resistant materials. As for plain end GMCs, their housings or center sleeves shall be made from either ductile iron or steel materials. Their bolts shall be constructed with carbon steel and corrosion resistant materials. Standard qualification tests for GMC shall consist of the following: performance test, specimen examination, pneumatic proof test, vacuum test, hydrostatic proof test, flexibility test, hydrostatic burst test, rigidity test, bending moment proof test, and bending moment ultimate test.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
3.1 Expanded welded socket joints may be used with the following pipe and tube:

3.3 Expanded welded and silver brazed socket joints may be used where experience or test has demonstrated that the joint is safe and suitable for design and operating conditions, and where adequate provision is made to prevent separation of the joint.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers expanded welded and silver brazed socket joints for use on shipboard piping systems.  
1.2 Expanded welded and silver brazed socket joints are to be used to join two pipes or tubes having the same NPS (see Note 1) without using a fitting or butt weld.  
1.3 Brazed socket type joints are not intended for use on systems containing flammable or combustible fluids in areas where fire hazards exist or where the service temperature exceeds 425°F (205°C).  
1.4 Brazed joints depending solely upon a fillet weld rather than primarily upon brazing material between pipe/tube and socket are not covered by this practice.  
Note 1: The dimensionless designator nominal pipe size (NPS) has been substituted in this practice for such traditional terms as “nominal diameter,” “size,” “nominal size,” and “iron pipe size.”

Standard Practice for Data Recording the Procedure used to Produce Heat Butt Fusion Joints in Plastic Piping Systems or Fittings

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The Device record includes information about how the heat butt fusion joint was made (heater temperature, pressures and times for the heating, fusion and cooling steps) and other important information about the process, job, equipment used, etc. The Device record is compared to the specified heat butt fusion procedure parameters to determine if the procedure was followed correctly. For comparison purposes, a graph of time versus pressure is generated from the data record to show pressure changes that occur during the butt fusion process. Comparing the time versus pressure graph to the steps in the procedure helps determine that the procedure parameters were observed, (Note 1). (See Appendix X1.) 5.2 When used in conjunction with manually-operated machines, the Device records information about the procedure used, the operator, the equipment, and the piping material. Note 1: The Device cannot show all aspects of the heat butt fusion conditions (such as wind, cold weather, blowing dust and sand, etc.) and does not preclude periodic joint testing as described in the applicable fusion standard or procedure.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice specifies the data recording information that is recorded, when data recording equipment is used, on heat butt fusion joints in a plastic piping system in order to compare the procedure used in making the joint to the heat butt fusion joining procedure specified. This practice is suitable for use with all heat butt fusion joining procedures such as Practice F2620, Specification F3372, Specification F2945 international standards or other qualified procedures. This practice primarily applies to hydraulically operated heat butt fusion machines and can be utilized for documenting heat butt fusion joints completed with manually-operated fusion machines.  
1.2 This practice offers a set of instructions for performing one or more specific operations. This document cannot replace education or experience and should be used in conjunction with professional judgment. Not all aspects of this practice may be applicable in all circumstances. Standard Specification for Gray Iron Castings for Valves, Flanges, and Pipe Fittings

ABSTRACT
This guide covers standard specification for three classes of gray iron for castings intended for use as valve pressure retaining parts, pipe fittings, and flanges. Chemical analysis shall be performed in each lot and shall conform to the required chemical composition for phosphorous and sulfur. Tension test shall be conducted on each class of gray iron castings and shall conform to the specified values of tensile strength. Tension test specimens shall have threaded ends and shall conform to the prescribed dimensions.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers three classes of gray iron for castings intended for use as valve pressure-retaining parts, pipe fittings, and flanges.
