Overview

EN 10152:2017 - "Electrolytically zinc coated cold rolled steel flat products for cold forming - Technical delivery conditions" - is a CEN European Standard that defines the technical delivery requirements for continuously electrolytic zinc coated, cold‑rolled flat steel products intended for cold forming. The standard covers products in rolled widths of ≥ 600 mm and thicknesses from 0.35 mm up to and including 3.0 mm, supplied as coil (strip), sheet, slit strip or cut lengths. It also notes optional application to narrower widths, certain high‑strength or multiphase steels and, by agreement, hot‑rolled substrates. Important: the electrolytic zinc mass is relatively small so products are not intended for long‑term outdoor exposure without further protection (painting or chemical treatment).

Key Topics

  • Scope and product types: strip, sheet, slit strip, cut lengths with electrolytic zinc coating (ZE).
  • Steel grades and formability: non‑alloy and alloy quality steels classified DC01 to DC07 (increasing suitability for deep drawing).
  • Designation and ordering: standardized designation includes product type, steel grade, coating thickness (e.g. ZE50 = 5.0 g/m² per side), surface quality (A/B) and surface treatment (e.g. phosphated/oiled).
  • Mandatory purchaser information: full designation, nominal dimensions, quantity, coil/bundle mass limits, surface quality/finish and surface treatment.
  • Coating options: symmetric or differential coatings, one‑side coating option, maximum coating mass per surface; Annex A describes the reference method for zinc coating mass determination.
  • Mechanical and formability tests: tensile tests (EN ISO 6892‑1), plastic strain ratio (ISO 10113) and strain‑hardening exponent (ISO 10275) to verify suitability for cold forming.
  • Surface and delivery requirements: surface finish, stretcher strain marks, surface treatments (e.g. phosphating, oiling), dimensional tolerances per EN 10131 / EN 10051.
  • Inspection and documentation: types of inspection, sampling, testing, and inspection documents (EN 10204).

Applications

  • Substrates for cold‑formed components in automotive, appliance, HVAC, and general engineering.
  • Use as a base for organic coatings (reference EN 10169) where corrosion protection requires paint or conversion coating.
