This document specifies the requirements and test methods applicable to factory applied internal lining made of thermoplastic acid modified polyolefin (TMPO) for the heavy duty corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes conforming to EN 545, EN 598 and EN 969. This document also applies to pipes with only socket and spigot ends coated with TMPO. Fittings and accessories are covered separately by EN 14901-2.

Dieses Dokument legt die Anforderungen an werksseitig aufgebrachte Innenauskleidungen aus thermo-plastisch säuremodifiziertem Polyolefin (en: thermoplastic acid modified polyolefin, TMPO) für den Korrosionsschutz für erhöhte Beanspruchung von Rohren aus duktilem Gusseisen nach EN 545, EN 598 und EN 969 sowie die dafür geltenden Prüfverfahren fest. Dieses Dokument gilt auch für Rohre, bei denen nur Muffen- und Einsteckenden mit TMPO beschichtet sind. Formstücke und Zubehörteile werden durch EN 14901 2 gesondert abgedeckt.

Le présent document spécifie les prescriptions et les méthodes d’essai relatives aux revêtements intérieurs thermoplastiques en polyoléfine modifiée par un acide (TPMA), appliqués en usine, et destinés à fournir une protection renforcée contre la corrosion pour les tuyaux en fonte ductile conformes à l’EN 545, l’EN 598 et l’EN 969. Le présent document s’applique aussi aux tuyaux dont seules l’extrémité à bout uni et l’emboîture sont revêtues de TPMA. Les raccords et accessoires sont traités séparément dans l’EN 14901-2.

This European Standard is a complementary document for the installation of ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints, covered by EN 598:2009 harmonized standard. This Technical Report contains the sanitary characteristics and test methods applicable to those factory applied lining, coating and jointing materials of ductile iron pipes and fittings conforming to EN 545 which are in contact with water intended for human consumption for use at operating temperatures up to 50 °C. Ductile cast iron itself is not in direct contact with the conveyed water therefore no characteristics in respect to the sanitary behaviour are necessary. As ductile cast iron is impermeable against diffusion of organic substances the water quality is maintained in service. Different surface/volume ratios are used in the tests for pipes, fittings and joints to reflect the different impact of their surface areas exposed to the water in the overall pipeline.

-   with or without pressure;

This European Standard is applicable to pipes, fittings and accessories which are:

-               suitable for fluid temperatures between 0 °C and 50 °C, excluding frost;

This European Standard covers pipes and fittings cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints and accessories, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 2 000, inclusive.
This European Standard specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings of ductile iron pipes and fittings. It also gives performance requirements for all components including joints. Joint design and gasket shapes are outside the scope of this standard.
In addition, reference is made to the performance requirements of couplings, flange adaptors and saddles manufactured for use with ductile iron pipes and fittings.
NOTE 2   In this European Standard, all pressures are relative pressures, expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

-   to be installed below or above ground;
-   to convey surface water, domestic waste water and certain types of industrial effluents, either in separate systems or in combined systems.
This technical report:
-   explains in more detail the process of testing for the performance tests;
-   explains in more detail the benefits of high alumina cement lining;
-   explains in more detail the definitions of the different types/levels of attestation to enable customers to ensure their requirements are fulfilled;
-   explains in more detail the ways of certification of conformity with EN 598 for a reliable evaluation of the performance of products;
-   explains in more detail CE marking and its relevance i.e. the CE mark is not a mark of conformity with a standard but only a self-declaration concerning the CPD essential requirements.
In order to make the use of this Technical Report easier, the clauses of this document refer to the corresponding clause numbers in EN 598.
