Welded static non-pressurized thermoplastic tanks - Part 1: General principles

This standard specifies general principles for welded static non-pressurised thermoplastic tanks. It applies to work shop and site fabrications. The standard covers tanks with a capacity of 0,45 m3 (450 litres) and above. Tanks which comply with the requirements of this standard are not intended to withstand internal pressure or vaccuum other than that which may occur during the transfer of fluids (including gases) in their normal operation.

Diese Norm stellt allgemeine Grundsätze für geschweißte ortsfeste drucklose Tanks aus Thermoplasten auf. Sie gilt für die Werksfertigung und die Standort- fertigung. Diese Norm gilt für Tanks mit einem Volumen von > oder = 0,45 m3 (450 Liter). Diese Norm ist nur anwendbar für Tanks, die ohne inneren Überdruck oder Vakuum betrieben werden, ausgenommen die während des Befüllens/Entleerens mit Fluiden (einschließlich Gasen) bei Normalbetrieb vorkommenden Drücke.

La présente norme prescrit les principes généraux applicables aux cuves statiques soudées en matières thermoplastiques sans pression. Elle s'applique aux constructions effectuées en atelier et sur site. La présente norme s'applique aux cuves dont la capacité est supérieure ou égale à 0,45 m3 (450 litres). Les cuves conformes aux prescriptions de la présente norme ne sont pas prévues pour supporter une surpression ou une dépression autres que celles qui peuvent se produire durant le transfert des fluides (y compris les gaz) au cours de leur utilisation normale.

This European Standard specifies requirements for materials, physical properties and performance for blow moulded and rotationally moulded polyethylene single tanks, with or without reinforcement, for the above ground storage of chemical liquids having a maximum specific gravity of 1 400 kg/m3 except water and those liquids dealt with by EN 13341.
It is only applicable to static blow moulded or rotationally moulded polyethylene tanks, which are subjected to atmospheric pressures but not subject to any external loading and having a volume of 400 l to 10 000 l. Except for periodic temperature fluctuation their normal operating temperature does not exceed 25 °C.
Tanks according to this European Standard are expected to have a period of intended use of 10 years.
This European Standard specifies test methods and factory production control tests as well.
NOTE   National and/or international regulations above and beyond the requirements of this standard may apply to the storage of liquids and the installation of tanks.

This document specifies the product characteristics and the corresponding test methods for static thermoplastic tanks made of:
-   blow moulded polyethylene, or
-   rotationally moulded polyethylene, or
-   rotationally moulded anionically polymerized polyamide 6,
with or without factory assembled reinforcement.
The products covered by this European Standard:
-   are intended to be used for internal or external installations, for above ground storage of fuels limited to kerosene, heating oil, diesel, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) and bioliquids (containing up to 15 % FAME);
-   have a maximum filling capacity from 400 l up to and including 10 000 l, except for those made of anionically polymerized polyamide 6 where the maximum filling capacity will be limited to 3 000 l;
-   are subject to atmospheric pressure but not to any external loading (e.g. installation, wind and snow, earthquakes, flooding);
-   are not manufactured using recycled thermoplastic material;
-   are not manufactured using regrind thermoplastic material for rotationally moulded tanks;
-   are not manufactured using more than 50 % of regrind thermoplastic material for blow moulded tanks.
This document does not include tanks for the transport and distribution of fuels or gasses, or tanks for the storage of gas.
Flammable fuels with a flash point > 55 °C as determined by EN ISO 2719:2016 are eligible for storage in the tanks described in this standard without further provisions.
Flammable fuels with a flash point ≤ 55 °C as determined by EN ISO 2719:2016 are also eligible for storage in the tanks described in this standard if the provisions concerning electrostatic behaviour according to CLC/TR 60079-32-1:2015 are fulfilled.

This document specifies the product characteristics and test/assessment methods for workshop fabricated cylindrical, horizontal steel tanks, single (type S) and double skin (type D) intended to be used for the underground storage of water polluting liquids (both flammable and non-flammable), specifically used for storage and/or supply of fuel for building heating/cooling systems, and of hot or cold water not intended for human consumption at normal ambient temperature conditions (−20 °C to +50 °C) within the following limits:
-   from 800 mm up to 3000 mm nominal diameter and;
-   up to a maximum overall length of 6 times the nominal diameter;
-   for liquids with a maximum density of up to 1,1 kg/l and;
-   with an operating pressure (Po) of maximum 50 kPa (0,5 bar(g)) and minimum – 5 kPa (–50 mbar(g)) and;
-   for double skin tanks with a vacuum leak detection system where the kinematic viscosity does not exceed 5 × 10−3 m2/s.
Two tank types are distinguished:
-   Type S: Single skin;
-   Type D: Double skin.
Tanks designed to this document allow for an earth cover of up to 1,5 m. If there are imposed traffic loads or a greater earth cover, calculation is required.
This document is not applicable to tanks installed in industrial processes or in petrol stations, nor to loads and special measures necessary in areas subject to risk of earthquakes and/or to flooding.
