Safety requirements for superabrasives

This standard comprises safety requirements for the construction and testing by the manufacturer of all superabrasives (grinding wheels, cutting-off wheels, diamond wire, mounted points and other superabrasives) which are manufactured or repaired after the date of issue of the standard. The Standard does not include dressing tools including rotary truers nor any non-rotating Superabrasive tool.

Diese Norm enthält Sicherheitsanforderungen für Konstruktion und Prüfung für Schleifkörper, Trennschleifscheiben, Sägeseile, Schleifstifte und sonstige Schleifwerkzeuge mit Diamant oder Bornitrid durch den Hersteller, die nach der Veröffentlichung dieser Norm hergestellt oder instandgesetzt werden. Sie enthält keine Sicherheitsanforderungen für rotierende Abrichtwerkzeuge, Handfeilen und andere nicht rotierende Schleifwerkzeuge.

Prescriptions de sécurité pour les produits superabrasifs

La présente norme énonce les prescriptions de sécurité que doivent respecter les constructeurs pour la fabrication et les essais de tous les produits superabrasifs (meules, meules à tronçonner, fils diamantés, meules sur tige et autres outils superabrasifs) fabriqués ou réparés après la date de publication de la norme. La présente norme ne traite pas des outils à dresser, y compris les outils à dresser rotatifs ou tout outil non rotatif superabrasif.

This European Standard is applicable to the following coated abrasive products and a combination of coated and non-woven abrasive products: flap wheels, flap discs, vulcanised fibre discs and spindle mounted flap wheels. It also applies to back-up pads for vulcanised fibre discs. These products are manufactured using the following abrasive grains: aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, diamond, or CBN.
This European Standard specifies requirements and/or measures for removal or reduction of hazards resulting from the design and application of the coated abrasive products and clamping devices.
This European Standard also contains procedures and tests for verification of compliance with the requirements as well as safety information for use, which is to be made available to the user by the manufacturer.
The hazards taken into consideration are listed in Clause 4 of this standard.
This European Standard does not apply to abrasive products entirely of non-woven web.

ISO 6103:2014 specifies the maximum permissible values of unbalances for bonded abrasive wheels with an outside diameter D ≥ 125 mm and maximum operating speed vs ≥ 16 m/s, in the as-delivered condition. It also specifies the method for measuring the unbalance and the practical method for testing whether a grinding wheel is acceptable or not.
It is applicable to bonded abrasive wheels in the as-delivered condition.
It is not applicable to diamond, cubic boron nitride or natural stone grinding wheels, or to centreless control wheels, lapping and disc wheels, ball wheels or glass grinding wheels.

Amendment:
During revision of EN 12413:1999 an editorial simplification of the table with the scope of inspection (EN 12413:1999, Table 14) had been decided (see meeting report, document CEN/TC 143/WG 2 N 132). However this simplification led to a tightening of the scope of inspection for "all other abrasive products" in EN 12413:2007, Table 7 which was not covered by the compilation of comments table (document CEN/TC 143/WG 2 N 133) and no technical reason can be seen for this tightening of requirements.

This standard is applicable to rotating bonded abrasive products. It specifies requirements and/or measures for the removal or reduction of hazards resulting from the design and application of the abrasive products.
This standard also contains procedures and tests for verification of compliance with the requirements as well as safety information for use, which is to be made available to the user by the manufacturer.
