The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Esch member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take patt in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD 0 ISO ISO 10240:1995(E) Small traft - Owner’s manual 1 Scope This International Standard specifies a code of prac- tice to prepare an owner’s manual applicable to small traft of up to 24 m length of hull, with the intention of supplying information to facilitate the preparation of the manual which contributes to the communi- cation of this knowledge of the traft to the owner or Operator. 2 Normative references The following Standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. At the time of publi- cation, the editions indicated were valid. All Standards are subject to revision, and Parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most re- cent editions of the Standards indicated below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of cur- rently valid International Standards. ISO 1000: 1992, SI units and recommendations for the use of their multiples and of certain other units. ISO 11192:-l), Small traft - Graphical symbols. 3 General requirements An owner’s manual shall be delivered with each small traft. Purchasers shall sign a receipt for the owner’s man- ual. The receipt may be common to other official pa- pers, such as invoices, delivery notes, warranty certificates, etc 1) To be published. 4 Format and style of owner’s manua 4.1 Presentation Where practicable, related texts, keys to drawings nd drawings shall be arranged so that they tan be stud- ied together. 4.1.1 Language The owner’s manual shall be written in a language acceptable in the country of intended use. lt may be multilingual. 4.1.2 Materials Manuals shall be made of Paper or other suitable material. 4.1.3 Size The manufacturer may use any size: however, the standardized formats A4 (210 mm x 297 mm), A5 (148,5 mm x 210 mm) or B6 (128 mm x 182 mm) are preferred. The sheets may be folded. 4.1.4 Margins Top, side and bottom margins should be at least 7 mm except for the binding margin. 4.1.5 Colours in printing Colours may be used to attract the attention on im- portant advice, to clarify circuits or drawings or to make the manual more attractive. Printing may be on both sides of the sheet. 4.1.6 Binding The pages of a multipage manual may be bound, stapled or contained in an envelope, or kept together by any suitable means which accepts any possible specific manuals required in 5.4, and which fulfils the requirement of 5.1.2. The n Umber ing shall indi cate pages of the manual, e.g. 1 (15) 4.2 Text 42.1 Characters The height 1,5 mm. 4.2.2 Units of the 5 Content of owner’s manual Subclauses 5.1 to 5.7 specify requirements that shall be included in the owner’s manual as appropriate for the type of traft or relevant to the traft delivered. Equipment which is not delivered with the traft does not have to be dealt with in the owner’s manuai. the total number of 5.1 General characters shall Units used in the owner’s manual shall be SI, in ac- cordante with ISO 1000; other units may be added between brackets. 4.3 Drawings Drawings, schematics and diagrams may be used; in this case - drawings need not be to scale; - line drawings shall be preferred to Photographs; - ISO Symbols shall be used wherever possible (see ISO 8999 and ISO 11192). 4.4 Degrees of dangers Warnings and cautions shall be defined and empha- sized so as to attract attention: DANGER Denotes an extreme intrinsic hazard exists which would result in high probability of death or irreparable injury if proper precautions are not taken. WARNING Denotes a hazard exists which tan result in injury or death if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION Denotes a reminder of safety prac- tices or directs attention to Unsafe practices which could result in per- sonal injury or darnage to the traft or compone nts. The owner’s manual shall display the manufacturer’s name, type of traft (or name of the series) and the design category of the traft. 5.1 .l Manual introduction The first part following info of the owner’s manual shall present the rmation. “This manual has been compiled to help you to operate your traft with safety and pleasure. lt contains details of the traft, the equipment sup- plied or fitted, its Systems, and information on its Operation and maintenance. Please read it care- fully, and familiarize yourself with the traft before using it. If this is your first traft, or you are changing to a type of traft you are not familiar with, for your own comfort and safety, please ensure that you obtain handling and operating experience before assum- ing command of the traft. Your dealer or national sailing federation or Yacht club will be pleased to advise you of local sea schools, or competent in- structors. PLEASE KEEP THIS MANUAL IN A SECURE PLACE, AND HAND IT OVER TO THE NEW OWNER WHEN YOU SELL THE CRAFT.” 5.1.2 Index The manual shall contain an index of included items. 5.1.3 Homologation, certification, design category and identification The owner’s manual shall include information con- cerning homologations and/or certifications given to the traft The information shall indicate at least what Parts, Systems, specific characteristics of the traft, or the traft as a whole are treated by these homoj- ogations and/or certifications. lt shall also jndicate the SIST EN ISO 10240:2000
0 ISO ISO 10240:1995(E] references and address details of national or inter- national organizations issuing these homologations and/or certifications. The owner’s manual shall provide space to display the identification number and give information on the rel- evant design category of the traft, if practicable. The following design categories apply: - category A - “ocean”: Craft designed for ex- tended voyages where conditions experienced may exceed wind forte 8 (Beaufort Scale) and in- clude significant wave heights of 4 m, for vessels that are largely self-sufficient. - category B - “offshore”: Craft designed for off- shore voyages where conditions up to and includ- ing wind forte 8 and significant wave heights up to and including 4 m may be experienced. - category C - “inshore”: Craft designed for voy- ages in coastal waters, large bays, estuaries, lakes and rivers, where conditions up to and including wind forte 6 and significant wave heights up to and including 2 m may be experienced. - category D - “sheltered Wateas”: Craft de- signed for voyages on small lakes, rivers and canals, where conditions up to and inciuding wind forte 4 and significant wave heights up to and in- cluding 0,b m may be experienced. 5.2 Description of traft - main dimensions; - sail area; - masses of the traft; - draft and vertical clearance; - maximum rated engine power for which the traft is designed (see information provided by the en- gine manufacturer); - voltages: a.c. or d.c., frequency, number of phases; - capacity of the batteries; - engine: inboardloutboard; - tank capacities: fuel, fresh watet-, holding tan ks, gas cylinders; - maximum load (cargo and/or People); - strong Points relevant to docking/lifting/traiiering. 5.3 Description of essential equipment and features 5.3.1 General arrangements - deck plan; - interior plan; - Profile. 5.3.2 Propulsion systems - sail and rigging plan; - engine compartment layout; - propellers; - shafting. 5.3.3 Systems and circuits Descriptions, drawings and diagrams showing: a) water Systems: - potable, - sea, - fresh - grey ( sinklshower sewage), - black (toilet sewage); b) electrica installations; c) fuel System; d) gas System; e) exhaust System; f) Ventilation System; g) bilge pumping System; h) steering System; i) fire-extinguishing System; j) other specific installations, such as heating, air- conditioning, etc.; k) location of through-hull fittings, seacocks and valves; 1) engine(s) cooling Systems; m) anchoring arrangement. ISO 10240:1995(E) 0 ISO 5.4 Specific manuals Manuals of the various equipment installed in the traft, or fitted on the traft, shall be added to or inte- grated in the owner’s manual. Reference shall be made to these specific manuals (if they are simply added) so that the owner tan refer to them for maintenance, e.g. engine, refrigerator, heat- Ing. 5.5 Information The owner’s manual shall contain information on the following. 5.5.1 General information - advice based on the appropriate referenced stan- dards; - explanation of Symbols used in the traft (see ISO 8999 and ISO 11192); - labels or warnings fixed on the traft; - functions of controls, valves, handles; - functions of dials, switches and fuses or circuit- brea kers; - adjustment of equipment done by the owner. 5.5.2 Environmental considerations - fuel and oil spillage; - discharge and disposal of waste; - excessive noise; - wakelwash; - exhaust emissions; - paintlcleaning agents and other substances. 5.5.3 Maintenance general care; cleaning; repairs, removals and replacements; use of correct materials and components; Winter storage (afloat or on land); painting; inspection of Systems, circuits and devices. 5.5.4 Recommendations Warnings and/or cautions included in the owner’s manual shall be treated under the heading dealing with the particular equipment and shall be presented to attract the owner’s attention, using for example colours of characters, framing or colour shading. 5.6 Additional optional information In addition to the above information and following his own experience, the manufacturer and/or the dealer may put into the owner’s manual any advice, notes or instructions he wishes so as to facilita
