EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 is a CEN European amendment to EN ISO 14119:2025 for safety of machinery. It concerns interlocking devices associated with guards and the principles used for their design and selection. In practice, it is used when a machine builder, safety engineer, or conformity assessor needs the European version of the standard together with its EU-Directive relationship.
What does EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 specify?
EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 modifies the European Standard EN ISO 14119:2025. The amendment adds the European foreword material and Annex ZA, which links the standard to EU machinery legislation.
The document is organized around:
- the European foreword, which gives publication and adoption information for CEN members
- Annex ZA, which explains the relationship between the standard and Directive 2006/42/EC
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex ZA | Relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC aimed to be covered |
What are the key requirements of EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026?
EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 is mainly about the European adoption and legal positioning of EN ISO 14119:2025. The important points in the amendment are the CEN implementation rules, the EU-Directive mapping, and the normative references needed to use the standard correctly.
European adoption and status
The amendment to EN ISO 14119:2025 is to be given national standard status, either by identical publication or by endorsement, by December 2026. Conflicting national standards are to be withdrawn by the same date. For users, this tells them when the European wording is expected to replace national differences.
Link to Directive 2006/42/EC
Annex ZA states that the standard was prepared as one voluntary means of conforming to the essential requirements of Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery. Once the standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, applying the normative clauses listed in Table ZA.1 gives a presumption of conformity, within the scope of the standard. For a manufacturer, that matters because it links technical application of the standard to EU machinery compliance.
Clauses linked to machinery safety requirements
Table ZA.1 maps Directive 2006/42/EC essential requirements to clauses 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and Annex K. The mapped requirements include topics such as safety information, control functions, guards, and machine marking and instructions. In practice, this shows where the standard supports a compliance file.
Normative references used with the standard
Table ZA.2 lists the standards that are indispensable for applying EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026. These cover risk assessment, safety-related control systems, safeguard positioning, prevention of unexpected start-up, electrical equipment, switchgear, proximity devices, and functional safety. That means users need these documents alongside the amendment when designing or checking guard interlocking arrangements.
Official versions and national implementation
The amendment exists in English, French, and German official versions, and CEN members are bound to implement it in their national standards systems. For a buyer or quality manager, that matters when working across countries or checking which language version is authoritative.
What terms does EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 define?
- Interlocking devices associated with guards - Devices used with guards to control access to a hazard zone by interacting with the guard position.
- Guard - A separating protective measure used to keep people away from hazardous machine parts.
- Presumption of conformity - The legal effect described in Annex ZA when the standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union.
- Directive 2006/42/EC - The European Union machinery directive referenced by Annex ZA for conformity purposes.
- CEN - The European Committee for Standardization, which prepared this amendment.
- EFTA - The European Free Trade Association, mentioned in Annex ZA in relation to associated regulations.
Who uses EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026?
EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 is used by machinery manufacturers, machine integrators, safety engineers, and conformity assessment staff. It is also relevant to quality managers and buyers who need to check that guard interlocking devices are being selected and documented against the European standard. National standards bodies use it for national adoption.
What changed in EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 from the previous edition?
EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 modifies EN ISO 14119:2025.

What does the EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 document contain?
EN ISO 14119:2025/A11:2026 contains the European foreword and Annex ZA. Annex ZA provides the correspondence between the standard and Directive 2006/42/EC, plus the list of normative references that are needed for application. It also states the official language versions, the CEN member obligations for national implementation, and the warning that other Union legislation may also apply.
