EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 is a CLC amendment to the European standard for enamelled round copper wire used as winding wire. It updates the electrical requirements for resistance and breakdown voltage, so manufacturers, suppliers, purchasers, and test laboratories can apply the same acceptance limits to this wire type.
What does EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 specify?
EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 amends the general requirements for enamelled round copper wire. In practice, it refines how electrical resistance is checked for larger diameters and replaces the breakdown-voltage and resistance tables used for specification and testing.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex C | Electrical resistance limits for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm up to and including 5.000 mm |
The amendment works through Clause 5, Clause 13.2, Tables 8 and 9, and Annex C. That structure matters because users can go straight to the acceptance data for resistance or breakdown voltage without reading the whole base standard again.
What are the key requirements of EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026?
The amendment mainly changes three technical areas: resistance measurements, breakdown voltage by conductor diameter, and resistance limits in Annex C. These are the checks that tell a buyer or test lab whether a wire meets the declared electrical performance.
Resistance measurements
Clause 5 allows resistance measurements, by agreement between purchaser and supplier, for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm. Where that agreement exists, the resistance at 20 °C has to fall within the limits in Annex C. In practice, this means resistance testing for larger wire sizes is contractual and the acceptance range is fixed by the annex table.
Breakdown voltage for preferred diameters
Clause 13.2 now covers nominal conductor diameters up to and including 0.500 mm. Table 8 replaces the previous breakdown-voltage table and gives minimum breakdown voltage at room temperature for preferred nominal conductor diameters in the R 20 series, across grades 1, 2, 3, 1B, and 2B. This matters because the grade and diameter determine the minimum dielectric performance that must be verified.
Breakdown voltage for intermediate diameters
Table 9 replaces the intermediate-diameter breakdown-voltage table for diameters from 0.019 mm to 0.475 mm. The note states that the values are derived by linear interpolation from Table 8. In practice, this gives a defined way to set acceptance values for sizes between the preferred diameters.
Resistance limits in Annex C
Annex C replaces Table C.1 with resistance values for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm up to and including 5.000 mm. The table gives minimum, nominal, and maximum resistance at 20 °C. That gives procurement and test teams a single reference for pass/fail decisions on larger wires.
What terms does EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 use?
The amendment uses several abbreviations and technical terms that matter when reading the tables and foreword.
- IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission, the body named for the base standard.
- CLC - European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, the organization issuing the European amendment.
- CDV - Committee Draft for Vote, the draft stage identified on the document.
- FDIS - Final Draft International Standard, cited in the foreword as a source document for the amendment.
- r.m.s. - root mean square, the way the breakdown-voltage values are stated.
- R 20 - the preferred series used for the listed nominal conductor diameters.
- TC 55 - IEC technical committee 55, the committee for winding wires.
Who uses EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026?
EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 is used by manufacturers and suppliers of winding wires, by purchasers who specify acceptance conditions, and by laboratories that measure resistance and breakdown voltage. It is also relevant to quality and procurement teams that need a clear basis for agreeing wire grade, diameter, and test limits.
The foreword also shows that it comes from IEC TC 55, the technical committee for winding wires, so it is part of the standardization work around this product family.
What changed in EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 from the previous edition?
EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 amends EN 60317-0-1:2014 by replacing the second paragraph of Clause 5, the title of 13.2, Tables 8 and 9, and Table C.1. The effect is to update the diameter coverage and the electrical acceptance values used for resistance and breakdown voltage.
What does the EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 document contain?
This amendment contains replacement text for one resistance clause, one subclause title, and three tables. Tables 8 and 9 provide minimum breakdown-voltage values by nominal conductor diameter and grade, including the R 20 preferred and intermediate diameter series. Annex C provides electrical resistance limits at 20 °C for larger nominal conductor diameters, with minimum, nominal, and maximum values. The document is therefore a reference for product specification, incoming inspection, and conformity testing rather than a general tutorial on winding wires.

AMENDMENT 2
FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be h
