SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 is Amendment 2 to IEC 60317-0-1, prepared by IEC TC 55 for winding wires and published by SIST. It updates the general requirements for enamelled round copper wire, especially the resistance limits and breakdown-voltage values used when the wire is specified, tested, or accepted.
What does SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 specify?
SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 specifies changes to the general requirements for enamelled round copper wire in the IEC 60317 series. In practice, it tells suppliers and buyers which resistance and breakdown-voltage values apply to defined conductor diameters and grades.
The amendment is organized around one changed clause, one changed subclause title, two replaced voltage tables, and one replaced resistance table in Annex C.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex C | Electrical resistances for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm up to and including 5.000 mm |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026?
SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 mainly revises how resistance and breakdown-voltage requirements are applied to enamelled round copper wire. The practical effect is that contract specifications and test plans must use the updated diameter ranges and table values.
Electrical resistance
Clause 5 allows resistance measurements, by agreement between purchaser and supplier, for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm. When that agreement is in place, the resistance at 20 °C must fall within the limits in Annex C. For users, this means resistance can be made part of an agreed acceptance check for larger conductors.
Breakdown voltage
Clause 13.2 extends the diameter range in its title to nominal conductor diameters up to and including 0.500 mm. Table 8 gives the minimum breakdown voltage at room temperature for preferred nominal conductor diameters from 0.018 mm to 0.500 mm, across grades 1, 2, 3, 1B and 2B. Table 9 gives the same type of requirement for intermediate nominal conductor diameters from 0.019 mm to 0.475 mm.
For testing, this means the wire size and grade determine the voltage-withstand limit, so the laboratory must apply the correct table before judging pass or fail. Table 9 also states that its values are derived by linear interpolation from Table 8.
Resistance values in Annex C
Annex C replaces Table C.1 with resistance values at 20 °C for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm up to and including 5.000 mm. The table gives minimum, nominal and maximum resistance in ohms per meter. In practice, this is the reference used to compare measured conductor resistance against the agreed wire size.
What terms does SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 define?
- Nominal conductor diameter - the stated conductor size used to select the resistance and breakdown-voltage limits.
- Breakdown voltage - the minimum voltage the insulated wire must withstand under the table conditions.
- Resistance at 20 °C - the conductor resistance value used for acceptance in Annex C.
- r.m.s. value - root mean square value, used for the breakdown-voltage limits in the tables.
- Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 1B and Grade 2B - breakdown-voltage classes with different minimum values.
- IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission, the organization responsible for the base standard.
Who uses SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026?
SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 is used by winding wire manufacturers, electrical equipment designers, test laboratories, purchasers, and quality managers. It is relevant in the copper products and wires supply chain, especially where enamelled round copper wire is bought, tested, and released against agreed limits.
These users apply it when they define product specifications, choose test methods, verify dielectric strength, or check resistance before delivery.
What changed in SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 updates the base publication by replacing the following parts:
- Clause 5, to allow agreed resistance measurements for nominal conductor diameters over 0.280 mm
- The title of Clause 13.2, to extend the diameter range up to and including 0.500 mm
- Table 8, with updated breakdown-voltage values for preferred nominal conductor diameters
- Table 9, with updated breakdown-voltage values for intermediate nominal conductor diameters
- Table C.1 in Annex C, with updated resistance values and diameter coverage
Which standards are used with SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026?
- IEC 60317-0-1 - the base publication that this amendment revises and updates.
What does the SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 document contain?
SIST EN 60317-0-1:2014/A2:2026 contains amendment text, a foreword, and replacement content for one resistance clause, one diameter-range heading, two breakdown-voltage tables, and one resistance table in Annex C. The amended tables provide the values used for product specification, incoming inspection, laboratory testing, and supplier acceptance.
The document also shows the table structure for preferred and intermediate nominal conductor diameters and the resistance limits used for larger diameters.

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be h
