Frequently Asked Questions
ICS 29.060.10 is a classification code in the International Classification for Standards (ICS) system. It covers "Wires". The ICS is a hierarchical classification system used to organize international, regional, and national standards, facilitating the search and identification of standards across different fields.
There are 1416 standards classified under ICS 29.060.10 (Wires). These standards are published by international and regional standardization bodies including ISO, IEC, CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI.
The International Classification for Standards (ICS) is a hierarchical classification system maintained by ISO to organize standards and related documents. It uses a three-level structure with field (2 digits), group (3 digits), and sub-group (2 digits) codes. The ICS helps users find standards by subject area and enables statistical analysis of standards development activities.

IEC 60851-5:2026 specifies the following tests:
Test 5: Electrical resistance;
Test 13: Breakdown voltage;
Test 14: Continuity of insulation;
Test 19: Dielectric dissipation factor;
Test 23: Pin hole.
For definitions and general notes on methods of test, Clause 3 of IEC 60851-1:2021 applies. This IEC 60851-5:2026 also specifies methods for determining the dissipation factor of enamelled winding wire, provided in Annex A. This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition published in 2008, Amendment 1:2011 and Amendment 2:2019. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) Subclauses 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 modified to expand the conductor size range for the loads applied during cylinder method testing for dielectric breakdown voltage of enameled wires and for fully insulated wires.
b) Addition of subclause 6.5 for inline continuity testing of rectangular wire (under consideration).

IEC TS 63263:2025 describes a test method for evaluating the lifetime of winding wires under electrical high frequency voltage impulses (with partial discharges) at elevated temperatures. This method is only applicable as a comparative examination under a given sample preparation and testing environment. The comparative nature of this document lies in the fact that the lifetime under partial discharges depends on a large number of influencing factors in the sample preparation and test conditions which could not all be thoroughly investigated so far.
This document applies to round and rectangular magnet wires.

IEC 60851-1:2021 specifies the general notes on methods of test for winding wires. It also gives the definitions for terms used in IEC 60851 (all parts). A survey of the contents of IEC 60851-2 to IEC 60851-6 is given in Annex A. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 1996, and its amendment 1:2003 and amendment 2:2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- revision to Clause 2 to update the list of normative references;
- revision to 3.2 atmospheric conditions for testing;
- addition to 3.2 with remarks concerning frequency and management of tests;
- revision to Annex A to update the contents list of IEC 60851 series of tests.

IEC 61400-24:2019 applies to lightning protection of wind turbine generators and wind power systems. Refer to guidelines for small wind turbines in annex.
This document defines the lightning environment for wind turbines and risk assessment for wind turbines in that environment. It defines requirements for protection of blades, other structural components and electrical and control systems against both direct and indirect effects of lightning. Test methods to validate compliance are included.
Guidance on the use of applicable lightning protection, industrial electrical and EMC standards including earthing is provided.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 2010. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) it is restructured with a main normative part, while informative information is placed in annexes.
