applies to fixed unencapsulated surface mount multilayer capacitors of ceramic dielectric, Class 1, for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors have metallized connecting pads or soldering strips and are intended to be mounted on printed boards, or directly onto substrates for hybrid circuits.

The text of document 40/1420/FDIS, future edition 1 of IEC 60384-21, prepared by IEC TC 40,
Capacitors and resistors for electronic equipment, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote
and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60384-21 on 2004-09-01.
This European Standard, together with EN 60384-22:2004, supersedes EN 132100:1996.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2005-06-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2007-09-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.
