Polyvinyl chloride insulated cables of rated voltages up to and including 450/750 V - Part 11: Cables for luminaires

This Part 11 of the HD details the particular requirements for PVC insulated cables of rated voltages up to Uø/U 300/300 V for use indoors as internal wiring or direct supply connection to luminaires. Each cable shall comply with the appropriate requirements given in Part 1 of this HD and the particular requirements of this Part 11.

This standard specifies design, dimensions and test requirements for halogen-free cables with extruded insulation and sheath having a voltage rating of up to and including 450/750 V for flexible applications under severe condition for the power supply between the electricity supply point or the charging station and the electric vehicle (EV). The EV charging cable is intended to supply power and if needed communication (details see EN 61851 1 and the EN 62196 series) to an electric vehicle. The charging cables are applicable for charging modes 1-3 of EN 61851 1. The cables in this standard with rated voltage 300/500 V are only permitted for charging mode 1 of EN 61851 1. The maximum conductor operating temperatures for the cables in this standard is 90 °C. The cables may be: a) an integral part of the vehicle (case A of EN 61851 1); or b) a detachable cable assembly with a vehicle connector and AC supply connection to a socket outlet (case B of EN 61851 1); or c) permanently attached to a fixed charging point (case C of EN 61851 1). This standard describes cables whose safety and reliability is ensured when they are installed and/or used in accordance to the guide to use EN 50565 1 and Annex B

IEC 60228:2023 specifies the nominal cross-sectional areas, in the range 0,5 mm2 to 3 500 mm2, for conductors in electric power cables and cords of a wide range of types. Requirements for numbers and sizes of wires and resistance values are also included. These conductors include solid, stranded and Milliken, copper, aluminium and aluminium alloy conductors in cables for fixed installations and flexible copper conductors. This document does not apply to conductors for telecommunication purposes. The applicability of this document to a particular type of cable is as specified in the standard for the type of cable. Unless specified otherwise in a particular clause, IEC 60028 ED4 relates to the conductors in the finished cable and not to the conductor as made or supplied for inclusion into a cable. Conductors described in this document are specified in metric sizes. Informative annexes provide supplementary information covering temperature correction factors for resistance measurement (Annex B) and guidance on dimensional limits of circular conductors (Annex C). This document has the status of a horizontal publication in accordance with IEC Guide 108.

In accordance with this agreement, only those cables in Clauses 5 and 6 are suitable for use with EN 81-series. 1.1 General This document specifies performance requirements for type tests for transition joints for use between extruded insulated power cables as specified in HD 620 and impregnated paper insulated power cables as specified in HD 621 or another relevant standard. Once type test for an accessory is successfully completed, it is not necessary to repeat the test, unless changes are made in the materials, design or manufacturing process, which might affect the performance characteristics. Possible extra thermo-mechanical forces due to high current loads from renewable sources of power generation are not covered by these tests (under consideration). Accessories for special applications such as submarine cables, ships cables or hazardous situations (explosive environments, fire resistant cables or seismic conditions) are not included. Test methods are included in EN IEC 61442:- and Annex E. NOTE 1 This document does not invalidate existing approvals of products achieved on the basis of national standards and specifications and/or the demonstration of satisfactory service performance. However, products approved according to such national standards or specifications cannot directly claim approval to this document. NOTE 2 It might be possible, subject to agreement between supplier and purchaser, and/or the relevant conformity assessment body, to demonstrate that conformity to the earlier standard can be used to claim conformity to this document, provided an assessment is made of any additional type testing that might need to be carried out. Any such additional testing that is part of a sequence of testing cannot be done separately. 1.2 Type of accessories The accessories covered by this document are straight and branch transition joints of all designs, suitable for use underground or in air. 1.3 Rated voltage The rated voltages U0/U (Um) of the accessories covered by this document are 3,6/6(7,2) - 3,8/6,6(7,2) - 6/10(12) - 6,35/11(12) - 8,7/15(17,5) - 12/20(24) - 12,7/22(24) - 18/30(36) - 19/33(36) - 20,8/36(42) kV.
