1.1 General This document specifies performance requirements for type tests for cable accessories for use on impregnated paper insulated power cables as specified in HD 621. It is not necessary to repeat these tests, once successfully completed, unless changes are made in the materials, design or manufacturing process, which might affect the performance characteristics. Accessories for special applications such as submarine cables, ships cables or hazardous situations (explosive environments, fire resistant cables or seismic conditions) are not included. Test methods are included in EN 61442:2005. NOTE It might be possible, subject to agreement between supplier and purchaser, and/or the relevant conformity assessment body, to demonstrate that conformity to the earlier standard can be used to claim conformity to this document, provided an assessment is made of any additional type testing that might need to be carried out. Any such additional testing that is part of a sequence of testing cannot be done separately. 1.2 Type of accessories The accessories covered by this document are listed below: - indoor and outdoor terminations of all designs, including terminal boxes; - straight joints, branch joints and stop end joints of all designs, suitable for use underground or in air; - screened or unscreened plug-in type or bolted-type separable connectors capable of interfacing with bushing profiles as specified in EN 50180 series and EN 50181. 1.3 Rated voltage The rated voltages U0/U(Um) of the accessories covered by this document are 3,6/6(7,2) - 3,8/6,6(7,2) - 6/10(12) - 6,35/11(12) - 8,7/15(17,5) - 12/20(24) - 12,7/22(24) - 18/30(36) - 19/33(36) - 20,8/36(42) kV.

1.1 General This document specifies performance requirements for type tests for transition joints for use between extruded insulated power cables as specified in HD 620 and impregnated paper insulated power cables as specified in HD 621 or another relevant standard. Once type test for an accessory is successfully completed, it is not necessary to repeat the test, unless changes are made in the materials, design or manufacturing process, which might affect the performance characteristics. Possible extra thermo-mechanical forces due to high current loads from renewable sources of power generation are not covered by these tests (under consideration). Accessories for special applications such as submarine cables, ships cables or hazardous situations (explosive environments, fire resistant cables or seismic conditions) are not included. Test methods are included in EN IEC 61442:- and Annex E. NOTE 1 This document does not invalidate existing approvals of products achieved on the basis of national standards and specifications and/or the demonstration of satisfactory service performance. However, products approved according to such national standards or specifications cannot directly claim approval to this document. NOTE 2 It might be possible, subject to agreement between supplier and purchaser, and/or the relevant conformity assessment body, to demonstrate that conformity to the earlier standard can be used to claim conformity to this document, provided an assessment is made of any additional type testing that might need to be carried out. HD 620 applies to cables with extruded insulation and for rated voltages Uo/U(Um) from 3,6/6 (7,2) kV up to 20,8/36(42) kV used in power distribution systems of voltages not exceeding the maximum r.m.s. value of the system voltage Um. This Part (Part 1) specifies the general requirements applicable to these cables, unless otherwise specified in the particular sections of this HD. Test methods specified are given EN 60228, EN 60229, EN 60332-1-2, EN 60811, EN 60885-3, HD 605 and HD 632. Attention should be drawn to the fact that a significant number of sections include references to long term tests which are collected in HD 605. These long-term tests are considered as necessary and reflect the best available knowledge for the existing cable design. They are related to specific designs and different philosophies concerning adequate measures against the influence of water. However, it is the firm intention to reduce this large number of different tests, but more experience should be gained before starting to rationalise this important matter. The particular types of cables are specified in Parts 9 to 12. NOTE Parts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were withdrawn in HD 620 S2.

Electric cables - Extended application of test results for reaction to fire

This document describes the procedure and rules for extended application of results of tests carried out according to the test methods described in EN 50399, EN 60332 1 2 and EN 61034 2. The EXAP rules described apply to EN 50399 test results used for classification according to EN 13501 6 in classes B2ca, Cca and Dca, additional smoke production classes s1, s2 and s3 and flaming droplets/particles, to EN 60332 1 2 test results used for classification in classes B2ca, Cca, Dca and Eca and to EN 61034 2 test results used for classification in classes s1a and s1b. No EXAP procedure and rules have been developed in respect to the results of tests carried out according to the test method described in EN 60754 2. As the parameters (pH and conductivity) for each cable in a family are determined based upon calculation using material test results, this is considered as a matter of direct application. Material test results taken from any one sample of finished cable from a family are sufficient to calculate the parameters for each cable in the family. Cables with a diameter of 5,0 mm or less are expected to be tested as bundles according to EN 50399. Cables with a diameter of less than or equal to 5,0 mm are included in the specific and general EXAP rules for single core unsheathed power cables only. The rules apply to circular and non-circular cables provided that they fall within the scope of the relevant test method. A specific EXAP rule has been developed for any of the types of electric cable families as defined in this document. A general EXAP rule has been developed for all electric cable families unless otherwise stated elsewhere in this document. NOTE 1 Multicore power cables are sometimes referred to as control cables with a rated voltage but for the purposes of this document are considered as power cables. For multipair, multitriple and multiquad control cables, either the general EXAP rule or the specific EXAP rule for power cables or the specific EXAP rule for communication cables can be applied. The use of the specific EXAP rule gives benefit in the lower number of cables to be tested for a range of cable constructions (product family). An EXAP is only possible when cables belong to a family as defined in this document. NOTE 2 For the purposes of this document, the term "electric cables" also covers optical fibre cables.
