EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 is a CENELEC amendment for the safety standard for household and similar electrical floor treatment machines and wet scrubbing machines. It adds European requirements to the Part 2-10 safety rules for appliances with rated voltage not more than 250 V, including direct current (DC) supplied appliances and battery-operated appliances. Manufacturers, test laboratories and compliance teams use it to align product design, instructions and construction with the European safety framework.

What does EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 specify?

EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 specifies amendments to the European safety standard for electric floor treatment and wet scrubbing machines used for household and similar purposes. The amendment is read with the Part 1 general requirements and with Part 2-10, so the practical effect is to update how these machines are described, instructed, built and assessed.

The document is organized as a set of modifications to the introduction, Clause 1, Clause 2, Clause 7, Clause 22, Clause 31 and the annexes. It also updates the bibliography.

AnnexWhat it covers
ZANormative references to international publications with corresponding European publications
ZESpecific additional requirements for appliances and machines intended for commercial use
ZZARelationship with Directive 2014/35/EU
ZZBRelationship with Directive 2006/42/EC
ZZCRelationship with Directive 2014/53/EU

What are the key requirements of EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026?

EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 mainly tightens the user information, construction and conformity-linking parts of the standard. For a manufacturer, the important change is not just the wording of the scope, but the extra instructions, design limits and legal cross-references that must be reflected in the product file and user documentation.

Scope and safety approach

Clause 1 replaces the scope wording so the standard deals with reasonably foreseeable hazards encountered by all persons. It also recognizes that people with disabilities may have needs beyond the level addressed in the standard. In practice, this pushes designers to think about normal use, foreseeable misuse and accessible operation.

References and coordination with Part 1

Clause 2 adds EN IEC 60335-1:2023 to the normative references. The amendment is also read together with EN IEC 60335-1:2023+A11:2023 and with EN IEC 60335-2-10:2024. In practice, the Part 1 requirements remain the base safety framework, while this Part 2 amendment adds appliance-specific details.

Markings and instructions

Clause 7 expands the instructions to cover intended use, user maintenance and operation, and operator training where needed. It also requires safe adjustment and maintenance instructions, the stability conditions during use, dismantling, testing or foreseeable breakdowns, and the action to take after an accident or breakdown.

Clause 7.12 also requires the instructions to state the maximum weight of the appliance including accessories and its packaging. Clause 7.12.1 adds that repairs shall be carried out by competent persons. For users and service organizations, this means the manual must support safe handling, transport and repair decisions.

Construction limits

Clause 22 adds that remote operation or a delayed start timer is not allowed. It also states that the appliance cannot operate continuously without giving rise to a hazard for the purposes of the relevant requirements. In practice, the design has to avoid unsafe unattended or prolonged operation modes.

Rusting and annex treatment

Clause 31 changes the applicability of the Part 1 resistance-to-rusting clause so that it is not applicable. The annex section also states that the Part 1 annexes apply except as otherwise noted. For test planning, this tells laboratories which Part 1 checks remain in play and which are removed.

EU conformity links

Annexes ZZA and ZZC link the standard to Directive 2014/35/EU and Directive 2014/53/EU. When cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, compliance with the normative clauses listed in the correspondence tables gives a presumption of conformity within the scope of the standard. For manufacturers, this is the route that connects technical compliance to EU market access.

What terms does EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 define?

  • Floor treatment machines - Electric appliances used to treat or clean floor surfaces in household and similar settings.
  • Wet scrubbing machines - Machines that scrub floors using liquid as part of the cleaning process.
  • Direct current (DC) - A supply form included in the scope, alongside other supplied and battery-operated appliances.
  • Competent persons - People qualified to carry out repairs safely.
  • Remote operation - Operation from a distance; this amendment says it is not allowed.
  • Delayed start timer - A timer that postpones operation; this amendment says it is not allowed.
  • Presumption of conformity - The legal effect linked to citation in the Official Journal for the directives named in the annexes.

Who uses EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026?

EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 is used by manufacturers of floor treatment and wet scrubbing machines, especially those selling household and similar products in Europe. It is also used by product safety engineers, test laboratories, certification bodies, quality managers and regulatory teams.

These users apply it when designing the appliance, writing the instructions, checking construction features such as timers and remote operation, and preparing conformity evidence for the European market.

What changed in EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 from the previous edition?

EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 supersedes EN 60335-2-10:2003+A1:2008. The amendment updates the scope wording, adds a normative reference to EN IEC 60335-1:2023, expands the marking and instructions requirements, prohibits remote operation and delayed start timer functions, makes Clause 31 of Part 1 not applicable, and revises the annexes linked to EU directives and normative references.

Which standards are used with EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026?

  • EN IEC 60335-2-10:2024 - the base Part 2 document that this amendment modifies.
  • EN IEC 60335-1:2023+A11:2023 - the Part 1 general requirements used together with this Part 2.
  • EN IEC 60335-1:2023 - added as a normative reference in Clause 2.
  • IEC 60335-1:2020 - the international publication mapped to the European Part 1 reference in Annex ZA.
  • IEC 60584-1 - thermocouples - Part 1, used in the normative reference list in Annex ZA for EMF specifications and tolerances.
  • IEC 60335-2-2, IEC 60335-2-67, IEC 60335-2-72 - related appliance standards listed in the bibliography.

What does the EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 document contain?

EN IEC 60335-2-10:2026/A11:2026 contains a European foreword, the amendment clauses, and annexes that connect the standard to European legislation and to referenced publications. The legal annexes include correspondence tables for Directive 2014/35/EU and Directive 2014/53/EU, so the document is structured for both technical use and conformity assessment.

It also contains the updated references list and bibliography entries that point readers to related appliance standards.
