BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 929, Spices and condiments - Determination of water-insoluble
ash, was drawn up by Technical Committee- ISO/TC 34, Agricultural food products, the Secretariat
of which is held by the Magyar Szabvinyügyi Hivatal (MSZH).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee led, in 1966, to the adoption of a Draft
IS0 Recommendation.
In January 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1202) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature,
by the following Member Bodies :

DETERMINATION OF WATER-INSOLUBLE ASH
INTRODUCTION
This IS0 Recommendation is applicable to most spices and condiments. In view of the number and
variety of such products, however, it may be necessary in particular cases to modify the method or
even to choose a more suitable method.
Such modifications and other methods will be indicated in the IS0 Recommendations giving specifi-
cations for the spices and condiments in question.
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation describes a method for the determination of water-insoluble ash in
spices and condiments.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 929, Epices - Détermination des cendres insolubles dans l’eau,
a été élaborée par le Comité Technique -ISO/TC 34, Produits agricoles alimentaires, dont le
Secrétariat est assuré par le Magyar Szabvanyügyi Hivatal (MSZH).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique et aboutirent,
en 1966, à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En janvier 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1202) fut soumis a l’enquête de

tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications
d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

INTRODUCTION
La présente Recommandation IS0 est applicable à la majorité des épices. Toutefois, en raison du
nombre et de la diversité de cellesci, il peut être nécessaire, dans les cas particuliers, d’apporter
certaines modifications à la méthode ou même de choisir une autre méthode plus appropriée.
Ces modifications et ces autres méthodes seront indiquées dans les Recommandations IS0 propres
aux spécifications des épices considérées.

La présente Recommandation IS0 décrit une méthode de détermination des cendres, insolubles
dans l’eau, dans les épices.
