It defines in particular the required free spaces necessary for shunter handrails, for shunter’s stand, for steps and handrails.
This document also defines their dimensions, positions, limits for durability and functionality.
It also defines the general requirements for the access to tail lights.

This European Standard specifies minimum structural requirements for freight wagon bodies and
associated specific equipment such as: roof, side and end walls, door, stanchion, fasteners and
attachments. It defines also special requirements for the freight wagon bodies when the wagon is
equipped with crashworthy buffers.
It defines the loads sustained by vehicle bodies and specific equipment, gives material data, identifies its
use and presents principles and methods to be used for design validation by analysis and testing.
For this design validation, two methods are given:
— one based on loadings, tests and criteria based upon methods used previously by the UIC rules and
applicable only for vehicle bodies made of steel;
— one based on the method of design and assessment of vehicles bodies given in !EN 12663-
1:2010+A2:2023". For this method, the load conditions to be applied to freight wagons are given
in this European Standard. They are copied in the !EN 12663-1:2010+A2:2023" in order to
facilitate its use when applied to freight wagons.
The freight wagons are divided into categories which are defined only with respect to the structural
requirements of the vehicle bodies.
Some freight wagons do not fit into any of the defined categories; the structural requirements for such
freight wagons should be part of the specification and be based on the principles presented in this
European Standard.
The standard applies to all freight wagons within the EU and EFTA territories. The specified
requirements assume operating conditions and circumstances such as are prevalent in these countries.

This European Standard specifies minimum structural requirements for railway vehicle bodies.
This European Standard specifies the loads vehicle bodies should be capable of sustaining, identifies
how material data should be used and presents the principles to be used for design validation by
analysis and testing. This European Standard applies to locomotives and passenger rolling stock.
EN 12663-2 provides the verification procedure for freight wagons and also refers to the methods in
this standard as an alternative for freight wagons.
The railway vehicles are divided into categories which are defined only with respect to the structural
requirements of the vehicle bodies. Some vehicles may not fit into any of the defined categories; the
structural requirements for such railway vehicles should be part of the specification and be based on
the principles presented in this European Standard.
The standard applies to all railway vehicles within the EU and EFTA territories. The specified
requirements assume operating conditions and circumstances such as are prevalent in these countries.
In addition to the requirements of this European Standard the structure of all vehicles associated with
passenger conveyance may generally be required to have features that will protect occupants in the
case of collision accidents. These requirements are given in EN 15227.

This document specifies a measurement method and conditions to obtain reproducible and comparable sound reduction indices of all kinds of rail bound vehicles’ gangway systems as defined in EN 16286 1. The setup includes all components of the system mounted like this is done between two adjacent car bodies within the train, so that a person will be able to use the gangway system, consisting of e.g.:
- the bridge system (footplate);
- side panels;
- flexible components (bellows);
- mounting systems;
- elements to couple parts in the case of separable gangway systems.
The method is applicable to type testing of gangways.
This method is not applicable to:
- interior noise measurements in vehicles;
- structure borne noise measurements.
The type testing procedures specified in this document are of engineering grade (grade 2) in the frequency range from 100 Hz up to 5 000 Hz.
NOTE This is the preferred range for noise declaration purposes, as defined in EN ISO 12001. If test conditions are relaxed, the results are no longer of engineering grade (grade 2).

This document defines the process to determine the conditions under which dispensation from on-track testing according to EN 14363 can be given to freight wagons. In its application this document specifies the means by which dispensation from on-track tests is possible.
This document is subordinate to EN 14363.
The dispensation conditions described in this document apply to all freight wagons and non-powered special vehicles with operating conditions of freight trains, which are operated on the heavy rail network with standard gauge (1 435 mm).
NOTE 1   The various rail-inclinations used in Europe (1:20, 1:40 and 1:30) are covered by the conditions for dispensation.
This document is not limited to any type of freight vehicle; however, freight wagons with defined parameters and equipped with certain running gear types, which have been previously accepted, are considered to have a continuing dispensation from on-track testing. The parameters of these freight wagons and running gear are detailed within this document.
NOTE 2   The test procedures described in this document (and in EN 14363) can be applied also to applications with other track gauges e.g. 1 524 mm or 1 668 mm. The limit values could be different. If established running gear are existing in such restricted networks the related ranges of running gear and vehicle parameters for dispensation from on-track tests might be specified together with the operational parameters (speed, can’t deficiency, maximum axle load) based on previous tests and operating experiences. These limit values and parameters will be specified on national level.
This document only contains requirements for characteristics related to requirements for on-track tests specified in EN 14363.

This European Standard specifies the minimum ergonomic and structural integrity requirements for steps and handrails used by railway staff to access passenger vehicles, luggage vans, locomotives and power units of rolling stock. It also applies to passenger-rated car carriers.
This European Standard defines the required spaces necessary for shunter handrails and shunter’s stand and gives references for the required spaces necessary for handling of screw couplings with side buffers. For staff access, it defines footsteps, handrails and their dimensions and free spaces. To fulfil the requirements for loads which are applied by the staff, it defines dimensions and requirements for materials or design loads.
It also defines the general requirements of steps and handrail for access to external equipment, for example windscreens, wipers or external lights.
This European Standard does not cover on track machines (mobile railway infrastructure construction and maintenance equipment) and tram-trains.

This European Standard specifies the characteristics of the Passenger Alarm System. The aim of the Passenger Alarm System is to:
a)   permit passengers in case of emergency situations to inform the driver;
b)   permit the driver to keep the train moving or to stop the train at a safe location;
c)   stop the train automatically:
1)   at a platform,
2)   if there is no acknowledgement by the driver.
This European Standard covers the Passenger Alarm System (PAS) fitted to the passenger carrying rolling stock and specifies:
-   the functional requirements for an alarm triggered in the driving cab (Clause 6);
-   the communication channel between the driver and passengers or on-board staff (6.4);
-   the dynamic analysis of the Passenger Alarm System (Clause 7);
-   the requirements for the degraded modes management (Clause 8);
-   the safety related requirements (Clause 9);
-   requirements for the Passenger Alarm Device and Passenger Alarm Device area (Clause 10).
This European Standard is applicable to rolling stock which are in the field of the Directive 2008/57/EC.
NOTE 1   Existing Passenger Alarm Systems may require modification to work in conjunction with vehicles that comply with this standard.
NOTE 2   Most of the requirements of UIC 541–6 are compliant with this standard.
Other communications systems named 'communication device for passengers' or 'call for aid' in the CR LOC and PAS TSI [1] are not covered by this standard.

This document also specifies the requirements for testing of entrance systems.
This document makes reference to manual and power operated entrance systems. For manual doors, clauses referring to power operation are not applicable.
This document does not apply to the following:
-   entrance systems for equipment access, inspection or maintenance purposes and for crew only use;
-   doors on freight wagons; and
-   doors or hatches specifically provided for escape under emergency conditions.

This European Standard is applicable to the lines with standard track gauge (1435°mm) and wider track gauges of the heavy rail system and the vehicles that are operated on these lines, except portable trolleys as defined by EN 13977 and maintenance vehicles (e.g. rail mounted plant, cranes) in their working or travelling modes (see EN 14033-2).
This European Standard describes methods of classification of existing and new lines of the heavy rail system and the categorisation of rail vehicles.
This European Standard gives guidance to a reliable and established management of the interface between rail vehicles and the heavy rail network and does not impose any requirements on either vehicles or infrastructure.
The application of this European standard enables to ensure the static route compatibility between a rail vehicle and the heavy rail network with respect to the vertical load carrying capacity.
It contains requirements relevant to:
- classification of the vertical load carrying capacity of lines of the heavy rail network;
- allocation of rail vehicles to line categories (categorisation);
- determination of payload limits of freight wagons.
Out of the scope of this European standard are
- assessments of compatibility based on the parameter axle load alone;
- compatibility checks for cases where an additional dynamic analysis is required (for example according to EN 1991-2:2003, 6.4.4);
- requirements relating to the maximum total mass or maximum length of a train;
- the system used in Great Britain, where all lines and vehicles are classified in accordance with the RA (Route Availability) System. A guide to the equivalent categories in accordance with this European Standard is given in Annex M;
- the publication of line categories.
The requirements of this European Standard do not replace any regulations related to running behaviour of vehicles described by the assessment quantities for running safety, track loading and ride characteristics (see EN 14363).
