This standard gives the procedures to determine the thermal resistance of products the thicknesses of which exceed the maximum thickness for guarded hot plate or heat flow meter apparatus. In any case most of the procedures described in this standard require apparatus that allows tests on specimens up to 100 mm thick. This standard gives guidelines to assess the relevance of the thickness effect, i.e. to establish whether the thermal resistance of a thick product can or cannot be calculated as the sum of the thermal resistances of slices cut from the product, these guidelines complement the indications given in ISO 8302:1991 on the guarded hot plate apparatus.This standard describes testing conditions which prevent the onset of convection. which could take place in some products under the considered temperature differences and thicknesses.

Diese Norm enthält die Verfahren zur Ermittlung des Wärmedurchlasswiderstandes von Produkten bei Dicken, die den in EN 12667 festgelegten Höchstwert für das Plattengerät oder Wärmestrommessplatten-Gerät überschreiten. Bei den meisten Verfahren dieser Norm wird angenommen, dass die Prüfungen an Probekörpern mit einer Dicke bis zu 100 mm durchgeführt werden. In dieser Norm sind Leitlinien zu finden, mit denen der Einfluss der Dicke bewertet werden kann, d. h. um feststellen zu können, ob der Wärmedurchlasswiderstand eines dicken Produktes durch Addition der Wärmedurchlasswiderstände von Scheiben, die vom Produkt geschnitten werden, berechnet werden kann oder ob dies nicht möglich ist. Diese Leitlinien sind eine Ergänzung zu den in ISO 8302:1991 für das Heizplattengerät angegebenen Hinweisen. Die Norm beschreibt Prüfbedingungen, die verhindern, dass sich die Konvektion einsetzt, was bei den betrachteten Temperaturdifferenzen und Dicken in einigen Produkten auftreten könnte.

La présente norme donne les modes opératoires permettant de déterminer la résistance thermique de produits ayant une épaisseur supérieure à la valeur maximale pour un appareil à plaque chaude gardée ou à fluxmètre. Dans tous les cas la plupart des modes opératoires décrits dans la présente norme nécessitent des appareils permettant l'essai d'éprouvettes dont l'épaisseur peut atteindre 100 mm. La présente norme fournit des indications pour évaluer la pertinence de l'effet d'épaisseur, c'est-à-dire pour établir si la résistance thermique d'un produit épais peut ou non être calculée en additionnant les résistances thermiques de tranches découpées dans le produit, ces indications sont complémentaires à celles données dans l'ISO 8302 :1991 sur l'appareil à plaque chaude gardée.
La présente norme décrit des conditions d'essai qui permettent d'éviter le développement de la convection, qui se pourrait se produire avec certains produits aux différences de température et aux épaisseurs considérées.
