Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Terms and definitions - Part 1: General terms
This European Standard defines general terms relating to products of aluminium and aluminium alloys which are helpful for communication within the aluminium industry and with its customers . It includes terms dealing with aluminium products, processing, sampling and testing, product characteristics and different types of visual quality characteristics. It does not include terms dealing with bauxite mining, alumina and anode production and aluminium smelting. This European Standard tries to adhere as closely as possible to the terms and definitions used in other standards or documents. This European Standard tries to follow the "common language" as it is used in native English speaking countries, without giving preference to specific idioms of any one of these counties. In cases where in different English-speaking countries different terms are used for the same concept or different concepts refer to an identical term, the appropriate explanations are given.

Diese Europäische Norm definiert allgemeine Begriffe, die sich auf Erzeugnisse aus Aluminium und Aluminiumlegierungen beziehen und für die Kommunikation innerhalb der Aluminiumindustrie und deren Kundenkreis nützlich sind.
Erfasst sind Benennungen für Aluminium-Erzeugnisse, für Verarbeitung, Probenahme und Prüfung, Erzeugnismerkmale und unter¬schiedliche Arten visueller Qualitätsmerkmale.
Nicht erfasst sind Benennungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Bauxitabbau, der Gewinnung des Alu-minium¬oxids, der Herstellung der Anoden und dem Erschmelzen des Aluminiums.
Diese Europäische Norm bemüht sich um eine größtmögliche Anpassung an die Begriffe, die in anderen Normen oder Dokumenten verwendet werden.
ANMERKUNG Für andere Werkstoffe als Aluminium können für Begriffe, die in diesem Dokument definiert werden, andere Definitionen gelten.
In dieser Europäischen Norm wird versucht, die „Common language“ (Verkehrssprache) beizu¬be-halten, die in Ländern mit Englisch als Muttersprache angewendet wird, ohne Bevorzugung bestimmter, in einem dieser Länder üblichen Idioms. Entsprech¬ende Erläuterungen werden in den Fällen ange¬geben, in denen in verschiedenen Ländern mit Englisch als Landessprache unterschiedliche Benennungen für denselben Begriff angewendet werden oder für unterschiedliche Begriffe dieselbe Benennung angewendet wird.

La présente Norme européenne définit les termes relatifs aux produits en aluminium et alliages d'aluminium qui aident à la communication à l'intérieur de l'industrie de l'aluminium et avec ses clients.
Elle comprend des termes concernant les produits en aluminium, le traitement, l'échantillonnage et l'essai, les caractéristiques des produits et les différents types de caractéristiques de qualité visuelle.
Elle ne comprend pas de termes concernant l'exploitation minière de la bauxite, la production d'alumine et d'anode et la fusion de l'aluminium.
La présente Norme européenne a été rédigée pour être aussi proche que possible des termes et définitions utilisés dans d'autres normes ou d'autres documents.
NOTE Pour les matériaux autres que l'aluminium, des définitions différentes peuvent s'appliquer à des termes qui sont définis dans le présent document.
La présente Norme européenne utilise « le langage commun » tel qu’utilisé dans les pays anglophones, sans préférence spécifique pour des expressions idiomatiques de l'un de ces pays. Dans le cas où des termes différents sont utilisés dans des pays anglophones différents pour le même concept ou que plusieurs concepts se rapportent à un terme identique, elle fournit les explications appropriées.

Ta evropski standard določa splošne pojme za izdelke iz aluminija in aluminijevih zlitin, ki prispevajo h komunikaciji v industriji aluminija in komunikaciji industrije s strankami. Zajema pojme, ki obravnavajo aluminijeve izdelke, obdelavo, vzorčenje in preskušanje, lastnosti izdelka ter različne vrste lastnosti vizualne kakovosti. Ne vključuje pojmov, ki obravnavajo pridobivanje boksita, aluminijevega oksida in anod ter taljenje aluminija. Ta evropski standard čim bolj upošteva pojme in opredelitve iz drugih standardov ali dokumentov. Ta evropski standard upošteva „splošni jezik“, kot se uporablja v angleško govorečih državah, in ne daje prednosti posebnim besednim zvezam iz katere koli od teh držav. Kadar se v različnih angleško govorečih državah uporabljajo različni pojmi za isti koncept ali se različni koncepti nanašajo na isti pojem, so navedena ustrezna pojasnila.

Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Terms and definitions - Part 1: General terms La présente Norme européenne a été adoptée par le CEN le 16 mars 2012.
Les membres du CEN sont tenus de se soumettre au Règlement Intérieur du CEN/CENELEC, qui définit les conditions dans lesquelles doit être attribué, sans modification, le statut de norme nationale à la Norme européenne. Les listes mises à jour et les références bibliographiques relatives à ces normes nationales peuvent être obtenues auprès du Centre de Gestion du CEN-CENELEC ou auprès des membres du CEN.
La présente Norme européenne existe en trois versions officielles (allemand, anglais, français). Die CEN-Mitglieder sind gehalten, die CEN/CENELEC-Geschäftsordnung zu erfüllen, in der die Bedingungen festgelegt sind, unter denen dieser Europäischen Norm ohne jede Änderung der Status einer nationalen Norm zu geben ist. Auf dem letzten Stand befindliche Listen dieser nationalen Normen mit ihren bibliographischen Angaben sind beim Management-Zentrum des CEN-CENELEC oder bei jedem CEN-Mitglied auf Anfrage erhältlich.
Diese Europäische Norm besteht in drei offiziellen Fassungen (Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch). EN 12258-1:2012 (E/F/D) 5 Foreword This document (EN 12258-1:2012) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 132 “Aluminium and aluminium alloys”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2012, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by December 2012. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document supersedes EN 12258-1:1998. All terms and definitions have been revised and updated and some additions have been made.
