This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 61558-1:2005; it was approved by CENELEC on
2009-03-01. CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.

Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on
application to the Central Secretariat or to any CENELEC member.

This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language
made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the
Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

EN-IEC 62041 is applicable to transformers, reactors and power supply units covered by the IEC 61558 series of standards. This document deals with the electromagnetic compatibility requirements for emission and immunity within the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified. For associated transformers, associated reactors and associated power supply units either supplied with or incorporated into an appliance or equipment the relevant EMC standard for that appliance or equipment applies. This document covers normal operating conditions only. Other operations of the transformers, reactors and power supply units (e.g. simulated faults in the electric circuitry for testing purposes or functional safety due to the effects of the electromagnetic phenomena, or evaluation of human being for exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF)) have not been taken into consideration in this document. Requirements are specified for each port considered. If requirements are different the most severe takes precedence. This document does not apply to: - uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) covered by IEC 62040 (all parts); - power supply units covered by IEC 61204, (i.e. DC-DC converters, DC power and distribution equipment and power supply units for use in applications covered by IEC 60950-1, IEC 61010-1, IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60065); - power supplies and converters for use with or in products covered by IEC 61347 (all parts).

IEC 61558-1:2017 deals with safety aspects of transformers, reactors, power supply units and combinations thereof such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety. This document covers the following independent or associated stationary or portable types of dry-type transformers, power supply units, including switch mode power supply units,  reactors and combinations thereof in the field of safety. The windings can be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. They are not forming a part of the distribution network. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2005 and Amendment 1:2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a. fully insulated winding wires (FIW), new tables and aging tests for FIW constructions,
b. overvoltage categories 1, 2, 3 and 4 for clearances and dielectric strength tests (new tables) are included,
c. development of new symbols for the different overvoltage categories,
d. symbol for maximum altitudes, if higher than 2 000 m,
e. symbol for plug in power supply units, if the pins are damaged (tumbling barrel test),
f. symbol for minimum temperature (even during the transportation),
g. alternative temperature measurement, simulated load and back to back method according to IEC 60076-11,
h. short circuit and overload protection, simulated load and back to back method according to IEC 60076-11,
i. adjustment of temperatures in Table 2 according to CENELEC Guide 29,
j. establishing partial discharge test above 750 V for FIW constructions,
k. requirements for toroidal core constructions, division for basic and for supplementary isolation,
l. modification of protection indexes for enclosures (IP-code),
m. dimensioning of rectangular cross section connectors for transformers,
n. repetition test, 80% of required dielectric strength test voltage of Table 14,a.
o. vibration test for vehicles and railway applications,
p. two Y1 Capacitors for working voltages above 250 V and not exceeding 500 V with overvoltage category 3.
It has the status of a group safety publication in accordance with IEC Guide 104.

EN IEC 61558-2-10 deals with the safety of separating transformers with high insulation level and separating transformers with output voltages exceeding 1000 V. Transformers incorporating electronic circuits are also covered by this standard. Unless otherwise specified, from here onward, the term transformer covers separating transformers with high insulation level and separating transformers with output voltages exceeding 1000 V a.c or 1500 V d.c . This Part 2-10 is applicable to stationary or portable, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) independent or associated dry-type transformers. The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. This standard is applicable to transformers and power supply (linear) with internal operational frequencies not exceeding 500 Hz. This standard used in combination with Part 2-16 for switch mode power supply units (SMPS) is also applicable to power supplies with internal operational frequencies higher than 500 Hz. Where the two requirements are in conflict the most severe take precedence. The rated supply voltage does not exceed 1 000 V a.c., and the rated supply frequency and the internal operating frequency do not exceed 500 Hz. The rated supply voltage does not exceed 1000 V a.c., and the rated supply frequency and the internal operating frequency do not exceed 500 Hz. The rated output does not exceed: - 25 kVA for single-phase transformers; - 40 kVA for polyphase transformers. Transformers covered by this part are used in applications where double or reinforced insulation between circuits is required by the installation rules or by the appliance specification. - for transformers intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from other applicable standards, national rules, etc.) may be necessary; - measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences such as fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation, and icing should also be considered; - the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the transformers should also be considered; - additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to transformers intended for use in special environments.

– 10 kVA.
This part is not applicable to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals and output terminals of the transformers. Transformers covered by this part are used in applications where double or reinforced insulation between circuits is required by the installation rules or by the end product standard.
NOTE 2 Attention is drawn to the following:
- for transformers intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from other applicable standards, national rules, etc.) may be necessary;
- measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences such as fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation, and icing should also be considered;
- the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the transformers should also be considered;
- additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to transformers intended for use in special environments.
NOTE 3 Future technological development of transformers may necessitate a need to increase the upper limit of the frequencies, until then this part may be used as a guidance document.

The rated supply voltage does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500V ripple-free d.c., the rated supply frequency and the internal operational frequencies do not exceed 1 MHz.
The rated power does not exceed:
– 25 kVAR a.c. (25 kW d.c.) for single-phase reactors,
– 50 kVAR a.c. (50 kW d.c.) for poly-phase reactors.
This part is applicable to reactors without limitations of the rated power subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
This part is applicable to dry-type reactors. The windings may be encapsulated or nonencapsulated.
This part does not apply to:
– reactors covered by IEC 60289;
– ballast for tubular fluorescent covered by IEC 61347-2-8;
– ballast for discharge lamps (excluding tubular fluorescent lamps) covered by IEC 61347-2-9.
NOTE 2 For reactors filled with liquid dielectric or pulverised material such as sand, additional requirements are under consideration.
NOTE 3 Attention is drawn to the following:
- for reactors intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from other applicable standards, national rules, etc.) may be necessary;
- measures to protect the enclosure and the components inside the enclosure against external influences such as fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation, and icing should also be considered;
- the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the reactor should also be considered;
- additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules may be applicable to reactors intended for use in special environments, such as tropical environment.
NOTE 4 Normally, reactors are intended to be associated with equipment for functional requirements of the equipment or requirements by the installation rules or by other appliance specifications.
NOTE 5 Reactors incorporating electronic circuits and components are also covered by this standard.
NOTE 6 The protection against electric shock may be provided (or completed) by other parts or features of the equipment, such as the body.
NOTE 7 Reactors for particular applications will in the future be covered by complementary normative annexes.
NOTE 8 Future technological development of reactors may necessitate a need to increase the upper limit of the frequencies, until then this part may be used as a guidance document.
