This Technical Specification specifies a method for the determination of the specific electrical conductivity in aqueous suspensions of sludge (fresh), treated biowaste (fresh) or soil (fresh or air-dry).

La présente Norme européenne (CSS99037) décrit une méthode instrumentale de mesurage de routine de la conductivité électrique spécifique dans des extraits aqueux de boue (fraîche), de biodéchets traités (frais) ou de sol (frais ou séché à l’air). Noter que les amendements pour sol et produits sur pied ne sont pas inclus dans la présente norme. La détermination de la conductivité électrique spécifique (CE) est réalisée afin d’obtenir une indication de la teneur en électrolytes hydrosolubles dans les matériaux mentionnés. La norme repose sur l’ISO 11265. Il n’existe actuellement aucune norme internationale pour les boues et les biodéchets traités. Pour des raisons pratiques (s'il est nécessaire de procéder à une stricte comparaison avec des mesurages précédents, par exemple), il convient que le sol soit en général séché à l’air. Le séchage à l’air peut être utilisé pour tous les types de sol, à l’exception de ceux contenant des minéraux sulfurés ou des acides volatils. Dans ces deux cas, il convient d’utiliser un sol frais afin d’éviter toute oxydation du sulfure se traduisant par la formation d’acide sulfurique ou la volatilisation des acides organiques de faible poids moléculaire. Pour ce qui concerne la boue et les biodéchets traités, il est recommandé d’utiliser des échantillons frais. Dans ces matériaux, le séchage à l’air peut introduire des artefacts suite à la stimulation des processus d’oxydation, et qu’il convient donc d’éviter.

This Technical Specification (CEN/TS) was approved by CEN on 16 July 2012 for provisional application.

The period of validity of this CEN/TS is limited initially to three years. After two years the members of CEN will be requested to submit their

comments, particularly on the question whether the CEN/TS can be converted into a European Standard.

CEN members are required to announce the existence of this CEN/TS in the same way as for an EN and to make the CEN/TS available

promptly at national level in an appropriate form. It is permissible to keep conflicting national standards in force (in parallel to the CEN/TS)

until the final decision about the possible conversion of the CEN/TS into an EN is reached.

Committee - Horizontal standards in the fields of sludge, biowaste and soil”, the secretariat of which is held by

DIN.

The preparation of this document by CEN is based on a mandate by the European Commission (Mandate

M/330), which assigned the development of standards on sampling and analytical methods for hygienic and

applicable to sludge, treated biowaste and soil as far as this is technically feasible.

The determination of the specific electrical conductivity is carried out to obtain an indication of the content of

water-soluble electrolytes in soil, treated biowaste and sludge.
