Overview
SIST EN IEC 55015:2019/A11:2020 is a European standard developed by the CLC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) focusing on the limits and methods of measurement of radio disturbance characteristics of electrical lighting and similar equipment. This amendment A11 updates the 2019 baseline to maintain alignment with evolving electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements and supports harmonization under Directive 2014/30/EU.
The standard provides a comprehensive framework for assessing electromagnetic emissions from electrical lighting devices, ensuring that they meet specified radio disturbance limits to prevent interference with other electronic equipment. It is vital for manufacturers, testing laboratories, and regulatory bodies within the European Union and EFTA countries aiming for compliance with EMC regulations.
Key Topics
Radio Disturbance Limits
Defines emission thresholds for radio frequency disturbances generated by electrical lighting and similar devices. These limits are essential to avoid interference with communication systems and other electronic equipment.Measurement Methods
Specifies standardized procedures and test setups for accurately measuring radio disturbance characteristics. This ensures repeatability and uniformity in EMC testing across different laboratories and regulatory contexts.Amendment A11 Updates
Includes the addition of Annex ZZ which clarifies the relationship between this standard and Directive 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility. It enables the standard’s citation in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), conferring a presumption of conformity when requirements are met.Scope of Application
Applies specifically to electrical lighting equipment and related products; however, the principles can extend to similar electrical appliances where EMC compliance is necessary.Compliance and Implementation Dates
The amendment must be implemented nationally by November 27, 2020, with conflicting national standards withdrawn by November 27, 2022.
Applications
Product Development and Manufacturing
Ensures that electrical lighting products are designed and produced to limit electromagnetic interference (EMI), enhancing product quality and market acceptance.EMC Testing and Certification
Provides laboratories and certification bodies with recognized methods to verify compliance, facilitating smoother certification processes.Regulatory Compliance
Helps manufacturers meet essential requirements of Directive 2014/30/EU, simplifying market access across EU and EFTA member states.Quality Assurance and Market Surveillance
Enables consistent assessment criteria for authorities monitoring EMC compliance in lighting equipment and similar devices.
