This document specifies dimensions and safety requirements for manually operated and power-operated coupling devices used for assembling inland navigation vessels as push tows or for coupling vessels alongside by means of rope connections. The coupling device secures the stable positioning of the coupled vessels. Safety requirements to protect operators from accidents during the creation, operation, and separation of the rope connections of push tows and vessels coupled alongside are specified in this document. It also gives rules for designation and testing.

Dieses Dokument legt Maße und Sicherheitsanforderungen für handbetätigte und kraftbetriebene Spannvorrichtungen fest, die für die Zusammenstellung von Fahrzeugen der Binnenschifffahrt als Schubverband oder als längsseits gekuppelte Fahrzeuge mittels Seilverbindung verwendet werden. Die Spannvorrichtung dient der Sicherstellung der festen Lage der gekuppelten Fahrzeuge zueinander.
Sicherheitsanforderungen zur Vermeidung von Unfällen des Bedienungspersonals beim Zusammenstellen, Betrieb und Trennen der Seilverbindungen von Schub- und Koppelverbänden sind in diesem Dokument enthalten.
Diese Internationale Norm legt zusätzlich Regeln für die Bezeichnung und die Prüfung fest.

Le présent document spécifie les dimensions et les exigences de sécurité pour les treuils d'accouplement manœuvrés à la main ou motorisés utilisés pour assembler des bateaux de navigation intérieure sous forme de convois poussés ou de formations à couple longitudinales au moyen de liaisons de câbles. Le treuil d'accouplement permet de maintenir de façon stable le positionnement des bateaux accouplés.
Des exigences de sécurité ont été incluses dans le présent document afin de protéger les opérateurs des accidents pendant la mise en œuvre, l'utilisation et la séparation des liaisons formées avec des câbles pour les convois poussés et les formations à couple longitudinales.
Le présent document fournit également des règles applicables à la désignation et aux essais.

Vpenjalne naprave zagotavljajo stabilno lego vpetih plovil. V tem dokumentu so podane varnostne zahteve za zaščito upravljavcev pred nesrečami med vzpostavljanjem, uporabo ter ločevanjem vrvnih povezav med vlačilci in pripetimi plovili. Standard podaja tudi pravila za označevanje in preskušanje.

This document (EN ISO 6218:2019) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 8 "Ships and

marine technology" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 15 “Inland navigation vessels”

the secretariat of which is held by DIN.

identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2020, and conflicting national standards shall be

This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 6218:2015), which has been technically

revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
— the limitation of the rope speed has been deleted (former Clause 4.3);

— the minimum drum diameter has been changed to be 12 times the maximum rope diameter;

— “wire rope” has been replaced with "rope", because the use of wire- or textile-ropes is not relevant

in this document;
— editorial corrections have been made and the figures have been improved.
