SIST EN 15767-1:2026 is the Slovenian standard for portable monitor assemblies used in firefighting and support operations. It specifies safety requirements, performance requirements, test methods, instructions for use and maintenance, and marking for portable monitor assemblies. The standard is intended for manufacturers, test laboratories, purchasers, and users who need a common basis for selecting, checking, and documenting this equipment.
What does SIST EN 15767-1:2026 specify?
SIST EN 15767-1:2026 covers portable monitor assemblies that project extinguishing agents and can be used as portable equipment or permanently installed on a flange, vehicle, fire boat, or similar support. It also sets the basis for using the document together with EN 15767-2 or EN 15767-3, depending on the nozzle or foam device.
The standard does not apply to monitors permanently installed on firefighting and rescue service vehicles, which are covered by EN 1846-3.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Acceptance test on delivery, for customer or third-party checks |
| Annex B | Normative datasheet for portable monitor bodies |
| Annex C | Example of a completed datasheet |
The document is organized into scope, normative references, terms and definitions, description, requirements and verification, and information for use.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 15767-1:2026?
SIST EN 15767-1:2026 sets minimum safety and performance criteria and links each requirement to a verification method. In practice, this means the product must be designed, tested, documented, and marked in a way that supports safe use with firefighter gloves and predictable hydraulic performance.
Design and configuration
Clause 4 requires a portable monitor assembly to include a portable monitor body, a fitting system, a ground base, a carrying device, a means to attach the assembly to a fixed point, and a nozzle from EN 15767-2 or EN 15767-3. Optional travel, oscillating, and safety devices may also be fitted. For users, this defines the basic equipment package and the interfaces that must work together.
Handling and mechanical performance
Clause 5.2 requires 360° full-time swivelling inlet elements, ergonomic operation with EN 659 gloves, and controlled shut-off action where fitted. Separate parts that can be carried must be below 20 kg, or the assembly must be split into lighter sub-assemblies or provided with suitable carrying devices. This matters because the monitor has to be moved and operated safely in the field.
Operating forces and materials
Clause 5.2.3 limits the torques and forces needed to move valves, handwheels, travel elements, fitting systems, and other devices. Clause 5.3 requires materials that can pass the heat and frost tests. In practice, the product must still be easy to handle after heat or cold exposure.
Hydraulic behaviour
Clause 5.4 defines the test pressures and requires a pressure-loss curve in the datasheet. It also includes a heat test after 24 h at 55 °C, a frost test at -15 °C, burst-pressure resistance with and without a pressure limiting device, and leak-tightness at test pressure. This is the core evidence that the monitor body will work safely under pressure and temperature conditions.
Stability
Clause 5.5 requires the assembly to remain stable at the maximum stated flowrate in the most disadvantageous operating angles. The movement limit is part of the verification. For the user, this reduces the risk of the monitor shifting unexpectedly during operation.
Information for use and marking
Clause 6 requires an instruction and maintenance handbook, available on paper and, where needed, in a downloadable digital format. The handbook and marking must include the manufacturer identity, warnings, the datasheet, open and close directions, maximum stated flowrate, and nominal pressure. That helps buyers, operators, and service staff identify the product and use it correctly.
What terms does SIST EN 15767-1:2026 define?
- Portable monitor assembly - A combination of components for ground operations that connects to a water supply and projects extinguishing agents.
- Portable monitor body - The portable monitor assembly without the nozzle.
- Nozzle - The outlet component that controls the water or foam flowrate and/or pattern.
- Reference pressure, R - The standard working pressure used for hydraulic and dynamic leakage tests.
- Nominal pressure, N - The maximum working pressure.
- Test pressure, t - The pressure used for static leakage tests.
- Burst pressure, B - The static pressure used for the burst test.
- Maximum stated flowrate, Q - The flow under which the assembly can be operated safely and efficiently.
Who uses SIST EN 15767-1:2026?
Manufacturers use SIST EN 15767-1:2026 to design portable monitor assemblies and prepare datasheets, handbooks, and marking. Test laboratories use it for type tests, delivery checks, and hydraulic verification. Buyers, quality managers, and fire service users use it to compare products, check documentation, and confirm that the equipment matches the intended nozzle and operating conditions.
What changed in SIST EN 15767-1:2026 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 15767-1:2026 supersedes EN 15767-1:2009. The foreword states these main changes: the title was amended, definition 3.9 now uses the term “maximum stated flowrate”, notes with “should” were turned into normative text, Clause 4 was retitled “Description” and updated, Figure 1 gained a key, and verifications were moved under the corresponding requirements. It also states that the mass requirements were updated, heat sensitivity requirements and verifications were added, missing requirements and verifications were added in Clause 5, the stability note was changed to a warning, the instruction handbook was completed, Annex C was reformatted, and editorial wording was improved.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 15767-1:2026?
- EN 15767-2 - Gives the requirements for water nozzles used with portable monitor assemblies.
- EN 15767-3 - Gives the requirements for foam devices used with portable monitor assemblies.
- EN 659 - Defines the firefighter gloves used as the basis for ergonomic operation checks.
- EN 12266 - Provides the leakage-rate reference used in the leak-tightness test.
- EN 1846-3 - Covers permanently installed equipment on firefighting and rescue service vehicles.
What does the SIST EN 15767-1:2026 document contain?
The document contains a component description, test conditions, and verification methods for mechanical, hydraulic, thermal, frost, leak-tightness, and stability performance. It also contains a normative datasheet format, a pressure-loss chart template, and an example completed datasheet. Annex A gives a practical acceptance-test approach, while the main clauses and figures support design checks, testing, and product documentation.
