EN 144-1:2018 specifies the dimensional, mechanical and marking requirements for inlet connections used to join gas cylinder valves to cylinders for respiratory protective devices (RPDs). Prepared by CEN/TC 79, this Part 1 standard focuses on inlet connections to ensure safety, interchangeability and reliable performance under impact and pressure testing.

• Post-impact tests: After impact, valves must pass a hydraulic pressure test (1.2 × working pressure) and an internal tightness test. Total permissible leakage is not to exceed 180 cm3/h, and the valve must remain operable for emergency venting by hand or simple tool.
• Marking: Valves conforming to EN 144-1 must be marked with the standard number (EN 144-1), manufacturer identification, date of manufacture (at least year) and thread identification (e.g., 18P, 25P or 17E).
