Petroleum products - Determination of carbon residue - Micro method (ISO 10370:2014)

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the amount of carbon residue,
in the range 0,10 % (m/m) to 30,0 % (m/m), left after evaporation and pyrolysis of petroleum products
under specified conditions.
NOTE 1 The carbon residue value serves as an approximation of the tendency of petroleum products to
form carbonaceous deposits under similar degradation conditions, and may be useful in the assessment of
relative carbon-forming tendencies of products within the same class. In this case, care should be taken in the
interpretation of results.
For products which yield a residue in excess of 0,10 % (m/m), the test results are equivalent to those
obtained by the Conradson carbon residue test (see ISO 6615[1]) in the range of 0,10 (m/m) to 25,0 (m/m)
(for details see Annex A).
This International Standard is also applicable to petroleum products which consist essentially of
distillate material, and which may yield a carbon residue below 0,10 % (m/m). On such materials, a
10 % (V/V) distillation residue is prepared by the procedure described in 7.3.1 and 7.3.2 before analysis.
Both ash-forming constituents, as defined by ISO 6245[2] and non-volatile additives present in the sample
add to the carbon residue value and are included in the total value reported.
NOTE 2 The presence of organic nitrates incorporated in certain distillate fuels will yield abnormally high
values for the carbon residue. The presence of alkyl nitrate in the fuel may be detected by ISO 13759.[3]

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Koksrückstandsmenge im Bereich von 0,10 % (m/m) bis 30,0 % (m/m) fest, die nach einer Verdampfung und Pyrolyse von Mineralölerzeugnissen unter festgelegten Bedingungen übrigbleibt.
ANMERKUNG 1 Der Wert des Koksrückstands dient als ein Annäherungswert für die Tendenz von Mineralöl-erzeugnissen unter ähnlichen Zersetzungsbedingungen kohlenstoffhaltige Ablagerungen zu bilden, und kann für die Bewertung der relativen koksbildenden Tendenzen von Erzeugnissen derselben Klasse nützlich sein. In diesem Fall sollten die Ergebnisse sorgfältig ausgewertet werden.
Für Erzeugnisse mit einer Rückstandsmenge von mehr als 0,10 % (m/m) sind die Prüfergebnisse gleich denen, die mittels Conradson-Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Koksrückstands (siehe Referenz [1]) im Bereich von 0,10 % (m/m) bis 0,25 % (m/m) erhalten werden (in Bezug auf Einzelheiten siehe Anhang A).
Diese Internationale Norm gilt auch für Mineralölerzeugnisse, die hauptsächlich aus Destillaten bestehen und die einen Koksrückstand unter 0,10 % (m/m) aufweisen können. Bei diesen wird vor der Analyse mittels dem in 7.3.1 und 7.3.2 beschriebenen Verfahren ein Destillationsrückstand von 10 % (V/V) hergestellt.
Sowohl aschebildende Komponenten nach ISO 6245 als auch in der Probe vorhandene nichtflüchtige Additive/Zusätze tragen zum Koksrückstandswert bei und werden im berichteten Gesamtwert berücksichtigt.
ANMERKUNG 2 Die Anwesenheit von organischen Nitraten in bestimmten Destillat-Kraft- und Brennstoffen führt zu ungewöhnlich hohen Koksrückstandswerten. Die Anwesenheit von Alkylnitrat kann nach ISO 13759 [2] nachgewiesen werden.

ISO 10370:2014 spécifie une méthode pour la détermination de la quantité de résidu de carbone obtenue après évaporation et pyrolyse d'un produit pétrolier dans des conditions spécifiques. La méthode s'applique aux produits dont le résidu de carbone est compris entre 0,10 % (m/m) et 30,0 % (m/m).
NOTE 1       La valeur de résidu de carbone donne une idée de la tendance de produits pétroliers à former des dépôts carbonés dans des conditions de dégradation similaires. Elle peut être utile dans l'évaluation des tendances relatives à former des matières carbonées de produits d'une même catégorie. Il est recommandé dans ce cas d'être prudent dans l'interprétation des résultats.
Pour les produits dont le résidu de carbone est supérieur à 0,10 % (m/m), les résultats sont équivalents à ceux obtenus suivant l'essai de résidu de carbone Conradson (voir ISO 6615[1]) dans l'intervalle compris entre 0,10 % (m/m) et 25,0 % (m/m) (pour de plus amples précisions, se reporter à l'Annexe A).
ISO 10370:2014 peut également s'appliquer aux produits pétroliers constitués essentiellement de distillats et dont le résidu de carbone est inférieur à 0,10 % (m/m). Sur de tels produits, un résidu de distillation de 10 % (V/V) est préparé selon le mode opératoire donné en 7.3.1 et 7.3.2 avant analyse.
Les constituants formant des cendres, tels que définis dans l'ISO 6245,[2] ainsi que les additifs non volatils présents dans l'échantillon, augmentent la valeur du résidu de carbone et leur contribution est incluse dans la valeur totale reportée.
NOTE 2       Les nitrates organiques additionnés dans certains combustibles distillés conduisent à des valeurs anormalement élevées de résidu de carbone. La présence de nitrates d'alkyle dans un combustible peut être détectée selon la méthode d'essai ISO 13759[3].

Ta mednarodni standard določa metodo za določevanje deleža koksnega ostanka,
v razponu od 0,10 % (m/m) do 30,0 % (m/m), ki se ohrani po izparevanju in pirolizi naftnih proizvodov
pod predvidenimi pogoji.
OPOMBA 1: Vrednost koksnega ostanka služi kot približek nagnjenosti naftnih proizvodov k
formiranju ogljikovih nanosov pri podobnih pogojih razpada in je lahko v pomoč pri ocenjevanju relativne nagnjenosti proizvodov k formiranju ogljika znotraj istega razreda. V tem primeru naj bi se posebna pozornost posvetila razlagi rezultatov.
Pri proizvodih z ostankom več kot 0,10 % (m/m) so rezultati preskusov ekvivalentni tistim,
ki so bili pridobljeni s preskusom za določanje koksnega ostanka po Conradsonu (glejte ISO 6615[1]) v razponu od 0,10 (m/m) do 25,0 (m/m) (za podrobnosti glejte dodatek A).

products and lubricants” in collaboration with CEN/TC 19 “Gaseous and liquid fuels, lubricants and related

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2015, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 10370:1993). Apart from updates regarding
reference fuels and chemicals, the results of an interlaboratory study carried out by the Energy Institute
in the UK on the 10 % volume distillation residue procedure for middle distillates using 4 ml vials and
automatic distillation units, have been incorporated. It also incorporates ISO 10370:1993/Cor1:1996.

1 Scope
