Thermal insulating products for building applications - Determination of long term water absorption by diffusion
This European Standard specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the long-term water absorption of test specimens by diffusion. It is applicable to thermal insulating products. It is intended to simulate the water absorption of products subjected to high relative humidities, approximating to 100 %, on both sides and subjected to a water vapour pressure gradient for a long period of time e.g. inverted roof or unprotected ground insulation. The test is not applicable for all types of thermal insulating products. The product standard should state for which of its products, if any, this test is applicable.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Prüfeinrichtungen und Verfahren zur Bestimmung der langzeitigen Wasseraufnahme von Probekörpern durch Diffusion fest. Sie gilt für Wärmedämmstoffe. Das Prüfverfahren simuliert die Wasseraufnahme von Produkten, die auf beiden Seiten einer hohen relativen Luftfeuchte bis 100 % sowie über eine lange Zeit einer Wasserdampfteildruckdifferenz ausgesetzt werden, wie z. B. im Umkehrdach oder bei der ungeschützten Wärmedämmung zum Erdreich. Dieses Prüfverfahren ist nicht für alle Typen von Wärmedämmstoffen anwendbar. Daher sollte in der entsprechenden Produktnorm angegeben werden, für welche der in ihr beschriebenen Produkte dieses Prüfverfahren anwendbar ist. ANMERKUNG Für ungeschützte Wärmedämmung zum Erdreich kann möglicherweise die Temperatur von 50 °C durch eine niedrigere Temperatur ersetzt werden, wenn mehr Daten zur Verfügung stehen.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie l'équipement et les modes opératoires permettant de déterminer l'absorption d'eau à long terme des éprouvettes par diffusion. Elle s'applique aux produits isolants thermiques. Elle est destinée à simuler l'absorption d'eau de produits soumis à des taux d'humidité relative élevés, proches de 100 % sur chacune des faces ainsi qu'à un gradient de pression de vapeur d'eau pendant une longue durée, par exemple une toiture inversée ou une isolation au contact direct de la terre.
L'essai ne s'applique pas à tous les types de produits isolants thermiques. Il convient que la norme produit stipule à quels produits s'applique, le cas échéant, le présent essai.
NOTE Pour une isolation au contact direct de la terre, la température de 50 C pourrait être remplacée par une température inférieure, lorsque davantage de données seront disponibles.

Ta evropski standard določa opremo in postopke za ugotavljanje dolgotrajnega vpijanja vode preskušancev z difuzijo. Uporablja se za toplotnoizolacijske proizvode. Namenjen je simulaciji vpijanja vode pri proizvodih, ki so izpostavljeni visoki vlagi, približno 100 %, na obeh straneh in dolgotrajnemu gradientu parnega tlaka vode, npr. pri invertnih strehah in nezaščiteni talni izolaciji. Preskus ni priporočljiv za vse vrste toplotnoizolacijskih proizvodov. Standard za proizvod mora navajati, za katere proizvode je preskus uporaben (če obstajajo).

EN 12088:2013 (E) 3 Foreword This document (EN 12088:2013) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 88 “Thermal insulating materials and products”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2013, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2013. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document supersedes EN 12088:1997.
The revision of this standard contains no major changes, only minor corrections and clarifications of an editorial nature. This European Standard is one of a series of standards which specify test methods for determining dimensions and properties of thermal insulating materials and products.
