EN 14063-1:2004 (E) 12 Annex A
(normative)
Determination of the declared value of thermal conductivity A.1 Introduction It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to determine the declared value of thermal conductivity. He will have to demonstrate conformity of the product to its declared value. The declared value of thermal conductivity of a product are the expected value of the property during an economically reasonable working life under normal conditions, assessed through measured data at reference conditions. A.2 Input data A.2.1 The manufacturer shall have at least ten test results for thermal conductivity, obtained from internal or external measurements in order to calculate the declared value. A.2.2
Out of the ten test results the manufacturer shall have at least three test results for thermal conductivity, obtained from internal or external direct measurements. The direct thermal conductivity measurements shall be carried out at regular intervals spread over a time period of the last twelve month. If less than three results are available, the time period may be extended, until three test results are reached, but with a maximum of three years within which the product and the production conditions have not changed significantly. A.2.3
If the manufacturer has established a correlation according to A.4 and the direct test results mentioned above comply with the correlation the following procedure can be used to supplement the direct tests under A.2.2. A weighting factor giving the direct test results ten times the weight of the indirect test results shall be used as shown in Annex D. The measurements shall be carried out at regular intervals spread over a time period of the last twelve month. A.2.4
For new products minimum three direct thermal conductivity test results shall be carried out spread over a minimum period of ten days. If these test results comply with an already established correlation, the direct test results may be supplemented by indirect test results from the same period. The declared values shall be calculated according to the method given in A.3 and shall be recalculated at intervals not exceeding three months of production. A.3 Declared values The derivation of the declared value, λD, from the calculated value, λ90/90, shall use the rules given in 4.2.1, which include the rounding conditions.

EN 14063-1:2004 (E) 13 Case where thermal conductivity are declared The declared value, λD, shall be derived from the calculated value, λ90/90, which are determined using the equations A.1 and A.2. λλλsk⋅+=mean90/90 (A.1) 1)(12−−=∑=nsnimeaniλλλ (A.2) Table A.1 — Values for k for one-sided 90 % tolerance interval with a confidence level of 90 % Number of test results k 3 4,26 5 2,74 7 2,33 10 2,07 11 2,01 12 1,97 13 1,93 14 1,90 15 1,87 16 1,84 17 1,82 18 1,80 19 1,78 20 1,77 22 1,74 24 1,71 25 1,70 30 1,66 35 1,62 40 1,60 45 1,58 50 1,56 100 1,47 300 1,39 500 1,36 2 000 1,32 For other numbers of test results use ISO 12491 or linear interpolation. A.4 Indirect test results of thermal conductivity Indirect test results can only be accepted if the manufacturer can demonstrate a correlation between the direct measured thermal conductivity [λ] in the one hand, and loose bulk density [ρ] and particle size [d] in the other hand on the following conditions, which shall all be fulfilled. The correlation may for instance be presented as: λ = A + B·ρ + C·d, where A, B and C is plant dependant constants. 1) The correlation shall be based on test results from a period within which the product and the production conditions have not changed significantly.

EN 14063-1:2004 (E) 14 2) The correlation shall be based on testing of minimum ten samples. 3) The correlation shall be established by regression analysis with a regression coefficient better than 0,9. 4) The correlation shall be updated at least once a year by adding at least one test result in the regression for thermal conductivity, density and particle size. No result shall be used more than once and no result shall be excluded. 5) The correlation can only be used within the measured density range. No extrapolation is allowed. 6) In case the product or production conditions change significantly a new correlation shall be established.

(normative)
Preparation of test specimen for λλλλ-measurement B.1 Sampling Sampling is carried out according to the procedures given in EN 932-1. Sample at least three times the amount of the test specimens. For LWA one of the following ways is normally used:  Sampling of packed aggregates, min. 100 L.  Sampling from stationary conveyor belts using a sampling frame. Repeat until min. 100 L is sampled in a bag.  Sampling at belt and chute discharge points using a sampling box. Repeat until min. 100 L is sampled in a bag.  Sampling from stockpiles, see EN 932-1:1996, Annex C. Min. 100 L should be sampled in a bag. B.2 Dividing of samples Divide the samples according to EN 932-2. Divide the bulk sample (samples in the bags) into a test sample that is 5 % to 25 % larger than required for the test specimen. If 2 specimens are required for the λ-measurement 2 test samples of the same size is made. Divide the samples using a riffle box or a rotary sample divider. The rotary sample divider is preferred. B.3 Conditioning of samples Dry the sample at (110 ± 5) °C to constant mass. Protect the sample from moisture pick-up and let it cool down in the laboratory one or two days before measuring of loose bulk density and preparation of test specimens for λ-measurement. In case of dispute, the test specimen shall be stored to constant mass at (23 ± 2) °C and (50 ± 5) % relative humidity after drying at (110 ± 5) °C to constant mass.
