SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Light penetration may be used to control the quality of many RECPs. Light penetration has not been proven to relate to field performance for all materials.
5.2 The light penetration of RECPs may vary considerably, depending on the composite materials used in the matrix of the mat or due to inconsistency within a given mat. To minimize variation, specific sample size and procedures are indicated in this test method to help ensure comparable results.
5.3 This test method may be used to determine the effect of different composite materials and makeup of RECPs on the penetration of light.
5.4 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of RECPs. Comparative tests as directed in 5.4.1 may be advisable.
5.4.1 In case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. At a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and that are formed from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimens should be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student’s t-test for unpaired data and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two begun. If bias is found, either its cause must be corrected, or the purchaser and supplier must agree upon the known bias.
Note 1: The light penetration has no definitive relationship to the amount of ground cover provided by a RECP, as the amount of light penetration may include light passing through translucent elements or light deflecting off of elements of the RECP structure. Thus, this test method is not intended to be used to determine a...
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers measuring the amount of light that penetrates through a rolled erosion control product.
1.2 This test method does not provide light penetration values for RECPs under variable normal sun and soil conditions. This test method determines nominal light penetration.
1.3 This test method is not to be used to determine a percent ground cover value for RECPs, as the amount of light penetration may include light passing through translucent material or reflecting off surfaces.
1.4 The values stated as a percentage are to be regarded as the standard. The values provided in footcandles are for information only.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This test method is applicable for testing GCCMs in the cured state. This determines the initial and final breaking load to determine the initial and final tensile strength of the GCCM. It is used with a constant rate of extension type tensile testing machine.
4.2 GCCMs are composites, and the cured cementitious material typically has a lower tensile strength to the geosynthetic layer(s). When testing the tensile strength of a cured GCCM, multiple cracks will typically form in the cementitious material, transferring loads to the reinforcing fibers (or linking elements) before the ultimate tensile strength of the GCCM is reached. In certain applications, engineers need to know the initial tensile strength of the GCCM, which is when the cementitious material first breaks and the material’s rigidity is reduced, not just the final tensile strength (ultimate strength), which is governed primarily by the geosynthetic layer(s).
4.3 In service, the top layer of geosynthetic in a GCCM is particularly exposed to degradation from UV exposure and abrasion, especially in erosion control applications such as for channel lining with high levels of sedimentation in water flow. It is important that reported values take account of the effects of environmental degradation where this has a significant effect on in-service performance. It is therefore also necessary to test the initial and final tensile strength of the GCCM when the top layer has been removed to provide an indication of long-term GCCM tensile performance.
SCOPE
1.1 The purpose of the proposed test method is to determine the tensile strength of cured/hydrated GCCM materials to include reporting the initial tensile strength (first crack in the cementitious layer) and final tensile strength for GCCMs as supplied and in a weathered state with the geosynthetic top layer(s) removed.
1.2 As a performance test, this method will be used relatively infrequently and to test large lots of material. This test is not intended for routine quality control testing of GCCMs.
1.3 The values in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. Values in inch-pound units are in parentheses for information.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method is used to determine if the turf reinforcement mat meets specifications for mass per unit area. This test method can be used for quality control to determine specimen conformance. This measurement allows for a simple control of the delivered material by a comparison of the mass per unit area of the delivered material and the specified mass per unit area.
5.2 The procedure in this test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, but caution is advised since information about between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests in accordance with 5.2.1 are advisable.
5.2.1 In case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using the procedures in this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the manufacturer should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. At a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and which are from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimen should then be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using the appropriate Student’s t-test and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two parties before testing is begun. If a bias is found, either its cause must be found and corrected or the purchaser and the manufacturer must agree to interpret future test results in light of the known bias.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers an index to the determination of mass per unit area of all turf reinforcement mats.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Thickness is one of the basic physical properties used to control the quality of rolled erosion control products. Thickness values may aid in the calculation of other rolled erosion control product parameters. Thickness, however, is not generally an indication of field performance and generally should not be used in specifications. This test method is developed to aid manufacturers, designers, and end users in comparing the thickness of rolled erosion control products through the use of an accepted ASTM standard.
5.2 The thickness of rolled erosion control products may vary considerably depending on the pressure applied to the specimen during measurement. Where observed changes occur, thickness decreases when applied pressure is increased. To minimize variation, specific sample size and applied pressure are indicated in this test method to ensure all results are comparable.
5.3 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of rolled erosion control products, but caution is advised since information on between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests in accordance with 5.3.1 may be advised.
5.3.1 In case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The test method simulates the flow conditions (without sediment) applicable to sediment retention devices exposed to sheet-flow runoff. Horizontal flow rate is an inherent (index) property of sediment retention devices (SRDs), and can be used to control quality and to assess the effects of product changes.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers test procedures for determining the horizontal water flow rate through a geosynthetic or geosynthetic-enhanced screening device, such as a sediment retention device (SRD), under a constant-head pressure. The test is conducted with potable water.
1.2 This test is intended to be used for quality control and product development efforts, but should not be considered a performance test.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This practice is intended to create specimens of GCCM products appropriate for testing for the determination of index properties. Cured (hardened) samples are not necessarily intended to represent a field application of GCCM products, but would be representative of the correct amount of water applied to a known style of product and provide a basis for consistent and repeatable index property testing.
SCOPE
1.1 This standard practice specifies a set of instructions for preparing samples of geosynthetic cementitious composite mat (GCCM) for index property testing.
1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard.
1.3 All observed and calculated values shall conform to the guidelines for significant digits and rounding established in Practice D6026.
1.3.1 For purposes of comparing measured or calculated value(s) with specified limits, the measured or calculated value(s) shall be rounded to the nearest decimal or significant digits in the specified limits.
1.3.2 The procedures used to specify how data are collected/recorded or calculated in this practice are regarded as the industry standard. In addition, they are representative of the significant digits that generally should be measured. The procedures used do not consider material variation, purpose for obtaining the data, special purpose studies, or any considerations for the user’s objectives; and it is common practice to increase or reduce the significant digits of reported data to be commensurate with these considerations. It is beyond the scope of this practice to consider significant digits used in the analytical methods for engineering design.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The compression behavior test for TRMs is intended to be an index test. It is anticipated that the results of the compression behavior test will be used to evaluate product. The results of the analyses also may be used to compare the relative compressive yield points of materials that exhibit a detectable compressive yield point. It is anticipated that this test will be used for quality control testing to evaluate uniformity and consistency within a lot or between lots where sample geometry factors, for example, thickness, or materials may have changed.
Note 1: This is a one-dimensional test for compressive loading of a TRM in one plane.
5.1.1 The compressive yield point of TRMs may be evaluated from the stress/strain relationship. Many materials exhibit compressive deformation but may not show a distinct compressive yield point.
5.2 This test method can be used to evaluate the short-term stress/strain behavior of TRMs under compressive stress while loaded at a constant rate of deformation.
5.3 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of TRMs but caution is advised because interlaboratory testing is incomplete.
5.3.1 In the case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is statistical bias between their laboratories. SCOPE
1.1 This test method establishes the procedures for evaluation of the deformations of a turf reinforcement mat (TRM) under short-term compressive loading. This test method is strictly an index test method to be used to verify the compressive strength consistency of a given manufactured geosynthetic. Results from this test method should not be considered as an indication of actual or long-term performance of the TRM in field applications.
1.2 Since these TRMs experience multidirectional compressive loadings in the field, this test method will not show actual field performance and should not be used for this specific objective. The evaluation of the results also should recognize that the determination of the short-term single plane compressive behavior of geosynthetics does not reflect the installed performance of TRMs and, therefore, should not be used as the only method of product or performance specification.
1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Hydration is a critical aspect of GCCM installation. GCCM installations are often hydrated with excess water to ensure that a saturated condition exists. Therefore, it is not generally possible to monitor and control exactly the water addition that absorbs and hydrates the cementitious materials due the practical methods of hydration in use.
5.2 It is important to be able to distinguish the quality of cementitious material used in applications for GCCMs. A measurement of compressive strength properties of the cementitious material is often an accepted method to provide a measure of the cement strength and quality. The compressive strength properties will vary with the water/cementitious material ratio and, therefore, it is necessary to determine a practical value that approximates in-use hydration and not a water/cementitious material ratio that simply provides the maximum properties but cannot be expected as representative of actual use conditions.
5.3 The compressive strength of the cementitious material can be affected by both over and under hydration.
5.4 This method identifies a means to obtain a water/cementitious material ratio representative of that obtained by proper hydration of GCCMs to allow replication for laboratory compressive strength testing for use by GCCM designers, inspectors, and installers.
SCOPE
1.1 The purpose of the proposed test method is to obtain a water/cementitious material ratio that allows for a practical measurement of the compressive strength of the cementitious material contained within a geosynthetic cementitious composite mat (GCCM). This water/cementitious material ratio should be generally representative of that achieved practically upon the hydration of a GCCM. Because GCCM materials do not involve mixing or the use of exact water hydration methods when employed in the field, this method is necessary to provide a quantitative estimate of the water/cementitious material ratio.
1.2 This procedure determines the water/cementitious material ratio for a properly hydrated GCCM, which is then used to create cube or cylinder specimens for compressive strength testing as per the appropriate referenced ASTM test methods. Compressive strength results will then be representative of the strength of the inherent cementitious material found in the GCCM after normal GCCM hydration.

Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Some specific hazards statements are given in Section 7 on Hazards.
1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are provided for information purposes only.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The strip test in this test method is considered satisfactory for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of rolled erosion control products, since the method has been used extensively in the trade for acceptance testing.
5.1.1 In case of disagreement arising from differences in reported test values when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. At a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens which are as homogeneous as possible and are from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimens should then be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student's t-test for unpaired data and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two parties before testing is begun. If bias is found, either its cause must be found and corrected, or the purchaser and the supplier must agree to interpret future results in the light of the known bias.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers strip test procedures for determining the tensile properties of rolled erosion control products (RECPs).
1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are provided for information purposes only.
1.3 This standard does not apply to RECPs made of composite materials where the component providing the reinforcement cannot be tested for tensile strength with the procedure herein described. In this case, the established ASTM testing method which is most appropriate for that material shall be used instead.
1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Resiliency may be used to control the quality of many TRMs. Resiliency may be indicative of a TRM's ability to retain original configuration after exposure to the stresses which may be exerted during manufacture, shipping, and installation. Resiliency is not generally indicative of field performance.
5.2 The resiliency of TRMs may vary considerably depending on the pressure applied to the specimen during loading cycles. To minimize variation, specific sample size and applied pressure are indicated in this test method to ensure all results are comparable.
5.3 To determine the effect of different pressure loadings on the final thickness of TRMs, use this test method.
5.4 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of TRMs, but caution is advised since information on between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests, in accordance with 5.4.1 may be advisable.
5.4.1 In a case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. As a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and that are formed from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimens should be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student's t-test for unpaired date and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two begun. If bias is found, either its cause must corrected, or the purchaser and be found and interpret future tests in supplier must agree to the light of the known bias.

SCOPE
1.1 The test method establishes the procedures for evaluation of the deformations of a turf reinforcement mat (TRM) under short-term compressive loading.
The evaluation of the results also should recognize that the determination of the short term single plane compressive behavior of geosynthetics does not reflect the installed performance of TRMs and, therefore, should not be used as the only method of product or performance specification.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This practice is intended to create specimens of GCCM products appropriate for testing for the determination of index properties. Cured (hardened) samples are not necessarily intended to represent a field application of GCCM products but would be representative of the correct amount of water applied to a known style of product and provide a basis for consistent and repeatable index property testing.
Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
The procedures used do not consider material variation, purpose for obtaining the data, special purpose studies, or any considerations for the users objectives; and it is common practice to increase or reduce the significant digits of reported data to be commensurate with these considerations. It is beyond the scope of this practice to consider significant digits used in the analytical methods for engineering design.

5.1 Thickness is one of the basic physical properties used to control the quality of permanent rolled erosion control products. Thickness values may aid in the calculation of other permanent rolled erosion control product parameters. Thickness however is not generally an indication of field performance and generally should not be used in specifications. SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
This test method is used to determine if the turf reinforcement mat meets specifications for mass per unit area. This test method can be used for quality control to determine specimen conformance. This measurement allows for a simple control of the delivered material by a comparison of the mass per unit area of the delivered material and the specified mass per unit area.
The procedure in this test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, but caution is advised since information about between-laboratory precision is incomplete.
As a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and which are from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimen should then be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using the appropriate student’t-test and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two parties before testing is begun.

Resiliency may be used to control the quality of many TRMs. Resiliency may be indicative of a TRM’ability to retain original configuration after exposure to the stresses which may be exerted during manufacture, shipping, and installation. Resiliency is not generally indicative of field performance.
The resiliency of TRMs may vary considerably depending on the pressure applied to the specimen during loading cycles. To minimize variation, specific sample size and applied pressure are indicated in this test method to ensure all results are comparable.
To determine the effect of different pressure loadings on the final thickness of TRMs, use this test method.
This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of TRMs, but caution is advised since information on between-laboratory precision is incomplete.
The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student’t-test for unpaired date and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two begun. If bias is found, either its cause must corrected, or the purchaser and be found and interpret future tests in supplier must agree to the light of the known bias.
