ABSTRACT
This specification details the physical and performance requirements, and the corresponding test methods, for the evaluation of crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) pipes that are outside diameter controlled, made in nominal pipe dimension ratios, and pressure rated for water at different temperatures. Crosslinked PEX pipes covered here shall be made from polyethylene compounds that have been crosslinked by peroxides, Azo compounds, or silane compounds in extrusion, or by electron beam after extrusion, and are primarily defined by means of three criteria, namely, nominal density, degree of crosslinking, and long-term strength tests. Sampled pipe specimens shall be tested for conformance with workmanship, dimension (out-of-roundness, outside diameter, and wall thickness), density, hydrostatic burst pressure, hydrostatic sustained pressure strength, excessive temperature-pressure capacity, environmental stress cracking, stabilizer functionality, bent-pipe hydrostatic sustained pressure strength, oxidative stability in potable chlorinated water, and degree of crosslinking requirements.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) pipe that is outside diameter controlled in metric pipe sizes of DN 16 to DN 1000 (approximate outside diameters of 16 mm to 1005 mm) and inch pipe sizes NPS 3 to NPS 54 (approximate outside diameters of 3.5 in. to 54 in.), made in nominal pipe dimension ratios, and pressure rated for water at three temperatures (see Appendix X1). SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Uses—The requirements of this practice are intended to provide manholes suitable for installation in pipeline or conduit trenches, landfill perimeters, and landfills with limited settlement characteristics. Direct installation in sanitary landfills or other fills subject to large (in excess of 10 %) soil settlements may require special designs outside the scope of this practice.
4.1.1 Manholes are assumed to be subject to gravity flow only.
4.2 Design Assumption—The design methodology in this practice applies only to manholes that are installed in backfill consisting of Class I, Class II, or Class III material as defined in Practice D2321, which has been compacted to a minimum of 90 % standard proctor density. The designs are based on the backfill extending at least 3.5 ft (1 m) from the perimeter of the manhole for the full height of the manhole and extending laterally to undisturbed in situ soil. Manholes are assumed placed on a stable base consisting of at least 12 in. (30.5 cm) of Class I material compacted to at least 95 % standard proctor density or a concrete slab. The foundation soils under the base must provide adequate bearing strength to carry downdrag loads.
4.2.1 Manholes installed in sanitary landfills or other fills experiencing large settlements may require special designs beyond the scope of this practice. The designer should evaluate each specific site to determine the suitability for use of HDPE manholes and the designer should prepare a written specification for installation, which is beyond the scope of this practice.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers general and basic procedures related to the design of manholes and components manufactured from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for use in subsurface applications and applies to personnel access structures. The practice covers the material, the structural design requirements of the manhole barrel (also called vertical riser or shaft), floor (bottom), and top, and joints between shaft sections.
1.2 This practice offers the minimum requirements for the proper design of an HDPE manhole. Due to the variability in manhole height, diameter, and the soil, each manhole must be designed and detailed individually. When properly used and implemented, this practice can help ensure a safe and reliable structure for the industry.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe made in dimensions based on outside determined range of diameters and larger. The piping is intended for new construction and insertion renewal of old piping systems used for the transport of water, municipal sewage, domestic sewage, industrial process liquids, effluents, slurries, etc., in both pressure and nonpressure systems. Different dimensional properties of pipes like outside diameter, wall thickness, eccentricity, toe-in, and special sizes shall be determined. Physical properties such asdensity, melt index, flexural modulus, tensile strength, slow crack growth resistance, hydrostatic strength, color and UV stabilizer, HDB, and HDS shall determined as well. In order to determine the performance of pipes under pressure the following tests shall be done: short-term pressurization test and elevated temperature sustained pressure test. The pipe shall be homogeneous throughout and essentially uniform in color, opacity, density, and other properties. The inside and outside surfaces shall be semi matte or glossy in appearance (depending on the type of plastic) and free of chalking, sticky, or tacky material. The surfaces shall be free of excessive bloom, that is, slight bloom is acceptable. The pipe walls shall be free of cracks, holes, blisters, voids, foreign inclusion, or other defects that are visible to the naked eye and that may affect the wall integrity. Holes deliberately placed in perforated pipe are acceptable. Bloom or chalking may develop in pipe exposed to direct rays of the sun (ultraviolet radiant energy) for extended periods and, consequently, these requirements do not apply to pipe after extended exposure to direct rays of the sun.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe made in three standard outside diameter sizing systems, based on outside diameters of DIPS 3, IPS 4, Metric 90 mm and larger. For smaller sizes refer to Specification D3035. See 5.2.5 for guidelines on special sizes.
1.2 The piping is intended for new construction and insertion renewal of old piping systems used for the transport of water, municipal sewage, domestic sewage, industrial process liquids, effluents, slurries, etc., in both pressure and nonpressure systems.
Note 1: The user should consult the manufacturer to ensure that any mechanical or chemical effects to the polyethylene pipe caused by the material being transported will not affect the service life beyond limits acceptable to the user. See PPI TR-19 Chemical Resistance of Thermoplastic Piping Materials for guidance on chemical effects, www.plasticpipe.org
1.3 All pipes produced under this specification are pressure-rated. See Appendix X5 for information on pressure rating.
Note 2: References and material descriptions for PE2406, PE3408 and materials having a HDB of 1450 psi have been removed from Specification F714 due to changes in Specification D3350 and PPI TR-3. For removed designations, refer to previous editions of Specification F714, Specification D3350, PPI TR-3 and PPI TR-4. The removal of these materials does not affect pipelines that are in service. See Note 4 and Note 9.

SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe made in dimensions based on outside diameters of 90 mm (3.500 in.) and larger.
1.2 Three standard outside diameter sizing systems are detailed: one known as the ISO metric system, one known as the IPS system, and the other known as the DIPS system. See 5.2.5 for guidelines for special sizes.
